Chapter 18

Walk out and leave me

"You put Danielle's stuff in the cupboard?" Harry exclaimed.

Danielle's eyes got wide open.

Before anyone could register anything, Danielle bolted from the couch and ran towards the cupboard. Only Harry being fast enough to react and run after her.

They both got there at the same time but Danielle had an unnatural strength in her that pushed Harry aside. She opened the door and ripped the bag open.

You could see she had found what she was looking for, because of the expression in her face. She took a worn out book and hugged it to her chest with a very happy expression.

Harry walked towards her and took the book away.

"Give it back!" Danielle demanded.

"No" Harry stated.

"It is mine" Danielle stated back.

"No, it is not" Harry put the diary above his head so Danielle wouldn't be able to reach it, being a couple of inches shorter than Harry.

"Danielle!" Lily exclaimed and hugged her daughter tightly, "Are you ok?" she asked inspecting her daughter profusely.

"I am fine" Danielle shoved Lily roughly away.

"That is mine" A deep unnatural voice came out of Danielle.

Kyle and Joseph got very frightened and started crying.

"You are not Danielle" Holly stated. It got both Harry's and Danielle's attention.

"What do you mean?" Harry asked Holly.

"You are not Harry and she is not Danielle" Holly stated.

"Enough!" Sirius threw loud bangs from his wand to get everyone to shut up. He walked towards Harry and took the diary from his hand.

"What is this?" He asked, while he opened the book and saw there were only blank pages in it.

"It is a diary" Harry explained trying to get it back.

"It is my diary" Danielle narrowed her eyes.

"Nott gave it to me for Christmas" Harry tried.

"Is this what you were looking for?" Lily took the diary from Sirius, and saw the same thing Sirius had seen, only blank pages.

"It has a name printed in the cover" James took the diary from Lily, "Tom Marvolo Riddle"

"Who is Tom?" James asked both his children.

"Why don't you sit down Danielle?" Lily tried to get her daughter to sit.

"I said I'm fine" Danielle shoved Lily to the floor.

"Why do you want this diary so badly?" James asked his daughter concerned, while Laura helped Lily back up.

"It is mine!" Danielle yelled, swirling magic could be felt and seen around her. Everything started cracking around them.

Danielle without a warning fell to the floor.

"I'm sorry James, I had to petrify her" Remus apologized with his wand still out. James nodded not taking his eyes off his daughter.

Not taking the spell of her, James took his daughter in his arms and took her to her room.

When he got back, he saw everyone was still in shock. He saw how Harry had his eyes trained in the diary James still had in his hands.

"What is this?" James asked his son, while showing the book to everyone.

"It is a diary" Harry answered.

"No, it is not" James said angrily, and threw it aside.

Harry tried to go get it.

"Don't even think about it" James threatened; it stopped Harry from going near it.

"Is it magical?" James asked.

Harry didn't know what to say, what could he say?

"Is that thing hurting my daughter?" James grabbed Harry's arms tightly.

Harry kept his silence longer. He couldn't tell him what the diary was, how would he explain it?

He needed to destroy it.

"Answer me" James shook Harry a little.

"Stop it James!" Lily moved her husband away from her son.

"We need to take her to St. Mungos" Remus said.

"No!" Lily exclaimed quickly, "They will take her away if we do"

"Floo Madame Pompfrey, she should be in St. Mungos" James pleaded to Remus, his friend just nodded and went to the fireplace to make the call.

They all waited in silence for Remus to come back with the healer, only Kyle's and Joseph's sobbing could be heard.

Harry still didn't take his eyes off the diary, and James noticed.

"Where is she?" Madame Pompfrey asked when she came in, with Remus right behind her.

"Right here" Lily started to lead her to Danielle's room, with James beside her.

Laura, Sirius and Remus took Holly and the boys to the kitchen to give them something to drink, thinking that might have helped to calm them down. Peter stayed with Harry.

"Remus petrified her" James explained once they had gone inside the room, since Pompfrey had made a quizzical face when she saw the girl didn't move. At James explanation she nodded and took her wand out.

Ennervate!

"Aaaaah!" Danielle started screaming with all her might, once she had been enervated. Her magic started to go out of control and lashing against everyone and everything in the room.

James stepped in front of Lily and hugged her in order to protect her.

Pompfrey tried to calm her down but to no avail, she had to petrify her again almost immediately.

She did a diagnostic spell to have a better idea of what she was working with. Yellow smoke came out, which told her the young girl laying in front of her was in mortal peril. That alone was something to be scared of, but what scared her most was the smoke that came after that one, a black one. It was the same that had come out of Harry when she had done the same spell on him more than a year ago. She hid her shock as best as she could to not scare the parents about something she still didn't know how to help the brother of her recent patient.

Lily recognized the black smoke as soon as she saw it, bringing all the emotions it had brought out of her the first time she had seen it come out of her eldest son, now doubled. She couldn't stop a gasp coming out of her mouth. She brought her hands to hide her mouth, but her eyes showed her shock, they were wide open.

"What?" James asked his wife, then the Healer. Neither one answered.

"What?" James asked louder.

"There is something crushing her from inside" Madame Pompfrey said, while still doing spells on Danielle and administering potions.

"What do you mean there is something crushing her from inside?" James asked scared.

"There is something crushing her magic, something very strong. I can't seem to even loose its hold" Madame Pompfrey explained.

"You can do something about it, right?" James pleaded, "She will be all right"

Madame Pompfrey didn't answer, nor took her eyes and attention from Danielle.

"The Diary" were the last words James said before bolting out of the room.

"I saw it" Lily took her hands from her face.

"Excuse me?" Madame Pompfrey asked, not taking her eyes off Danielle.

"I saw it" Lily repeated, "The smoke"

"Yes", was all the healer said.

James ran down the stairs to where he had tossed the book. He couldn't see it, he was down on his knees looking for it, but still nothing. He knew that thing was hurting his daughter, he didn't know why or how. He just knew it was causing all their problems.

Why couldn't he find it?

No one was in the room, but he could hear noise coming out of the kitchen. He stood up and went to where he knew everyone else was.

He opened the door and saw all his friends with somber look.

"How is she?" Sirius asked as soon as he saw James.

"Where is Harry?" James asked, looking everywhere in the kitchen.

"He said he was going to go be with you" Peter said.

"Find him" James practically ordered, in a furious tone. He left the kitchen and ran straight to Danielle's room to be with her.

Sirius, Remus and Peter stood up immediately and started looking for Harry.

Harry saw how Madame Pompfrey and his parents went to look at Danielle. He knew the matron wouldn't be able to help his sister, he was the only one that could. The diary was still in the floor, where James had tossed it.

Remus, Sirius and his family had gone to the kitchen. As always, the rat was ruining everything, he had opted to stay with Harry.

Peter mistaking the boy's emotions, put a hand on Harry's shoulder to try and give him reassurance.

"She will be fine, don't worry" Peter told him.

Harry couldn't keep his eyes of the diary. It was killing Danielle. Tom was killing someone closed to him, again. This time he wouldn't let him.

"I want to be with her" Harry said in a whisper loud enough for Peter to hear.

Peter had a sad smile on his face but just nodded.

"I will be in the kitchen if you need me" Peter said before walking away.

The room was now empty except for Harry, nothing was stopping him from saving his sister. He ran towards the diary and took it in his hands. Without making any noise, or as little as he could, he opened the front door and walked out side.

Once he had walked a few blocks away from his house, he took his wand out.

With a bang, a purple bus appeared in front of him.

Almost 24 hours later, still no one had seen Harry. Madame Pompfrey was still looking at Danielle. Lily didn't know his son was missing, and James was scared, preoccupied and furious at the same time.

"She is fine" Madame Pompfrey suddenly said.

It got Lily's and James' attention at once.

"What?" Lily asked with hope.

"She is fine" the healer repeated, "Whatever was hurting her is now gone"

Ennervate!

Danielle didn't wake up, but slept peacefully.

Riding the Knight bus had seemed like a very good idea at the moment, but had become a very bad one very quickly.

They didn't question him about being alone, but it took hours to get to Hogsmeade. The bus had been full when he had summoned it, so he had had to wait for everyone else to get to their destination before he could finally ask to be taken to Hogsmeade.

At least he wasn't the boy-who-lived here, which meant he wasn't recognizable. It would have been a nightmare to read the next day 'Boy-who-lived becomes Boy-who-ran'.

Paying the fee he had been told he would have to pay before he got in the bus, he finally got off in Hogsmeade. It was night, which meant it was dark. He could barely see what there was in front of him. At least that meant it would be hard to be seen as well.

Everything was closed. Lights were out.

He decided to walk to the Shrieking Shack, it would be easier to get to Hogwarts from there.

It took him, maybe a half an hour to finally be on Hogwarts grounds. The whipping willow had made his life a bit difficult for a couple of seconds before he had been able to touch the knot that calmed it down. Fortunately he hadn't been hurt.

He walked towards Hogwarts sticking as close to the Forbidden forest without going in it, so it would be harder to be seen if someone was looking towards the grounds. No one was supposed to be in the school, let alone a twelve year old.

He reached the school and walked towards the huge front doors. As he had imagined but had wished they weren't, they were locked.

Alohomora!

It obviously didn't work, but he had had to try.

Blasting them open wouldn't be a good idea, besides he didn't think he would be able to actually blast them open.

He surely couldn't knock on them.

He had flown to Hogwarts with Dumbledore once. He walked back, towards the quidditch pitch. He wasn't as careful as he should have been since he felt he was in a hurry. He hoped he hadn't been seen.

He reached the quidditch pitch and ran towards the cupboard where the school brooms were. It was closed, but he had been able to open it with a simple Alohomora.

He grabbed the best looking broom he could see. A few splinters were seen, and it looked old. He was sure it would be able to do it's job though.

He put the door to the cupboard ajar, but didn't close it and mount the broom.

He flew towards the Astronomy tower.

It took him a couple of minutes, since it was a bit slow, but he reached it.

He put the broom in a dark corner so he could be able to go back with it.

He was in Hogwarts now. He was very far from Myrtle's bathroom. Now he had to go without being seen by the portraits.

He didn't have his father's cloak with him. But he could use his wand, he was technically inside the school.

He took his wand in his hand and did a Dillusionment charm on himself.

He was going to have to walk slowly to make sure he wasn't seen.

He walked down the astronomy tower, took a breath to calm himself and started to walk the corridors slowly. The portraits were asleep. He did a charm on his feet so they wouldn't make any noise, and walked towards Myrtle's bathroom.

He hadn't been seen, but it had taken double the time it should have taken him to get there.

He opened the door and walked inside, closing the door behind him.

"Who is there?" Myrtle appeared in front of him. Harry was still under the Dillusionment charm so Myrtle hadn't seen him yet. Nervous, he stopped breathing, scared of Myrtle being able to hear him. He could sure she would hear his heart beating, he could certainly hear it.

"Who is there?" Myrtle asked again, floating very neared him. He closed his eyes and prayed she would go away.

"It's you Peeves isn't it?" Myrtle shrieked.

Myrtle floated around the bathroom, but wasn't able to find anything.

"It isn't funny!" Myrtle wailed and sunk into a toilet, disappearing of sight.

Harry took a breath, and took the charms away.

He walked towards the sink and looked for the small carved snake.

'Open' he hissed.

As he had expected, the sink moved and an opening appeared in the floor.

"Here it goes" Harry told himself and jumped.

He slid down, getting grime all over his cloak. He reached the bottom, landing on small animals skeletons.

It was better than landing on the ground, but it still wasn't a soft landing.

He got up slowly, since he had landed on his foot. He had twisted it.

"Just my luck!" Harry said angrily looking at his foot.

He got up and hopped a couple of times before he stopped winded.

He surely couldn't fight a basilik if he couldn't even run. This time he didn't have Gryffindor's sword, nor Fawkes would come to rescue him. Harry wasn't loyal to Dumbledore.

He tried a few charms Hermione had once told him about on his foot. It didn't heal him, but at least it didn't hurt anymore. He was sure the pain was going to be a thousand time worse once the charm was gone, but at least he could walk again.

He walked the long corridor until he saw the door that led to the chamber.

'Open' he hissed.

The door opened. Harry climbed in and walked to the center of the chamber, where he could see the snake when it came towards him.

'I call you, oh great majestic snake' those words had worked before, so he was sure they were going to work again.

He could hear it coming.

The statue opened its mouth and the snake could be heard slithering its way to him.

The head was coming through, he divert his eyes so he wouldn't be killed by it's sight.

'You again' the snake hissed.

It was standing just in from of Harry, but it hadn't made a move to strike yet.

Now this had been a stupid plan.

The hat thought he was a Slytherin? If this wasn't a Gryffindor thing to do, then what was?

He was very good at Defense, but he was certainly no prodigy in Transfiguration like his father. He would never be able to transfigure something into a rooster, let alone make it croak.

'The Slytherin smell in you is almost completely gone' the snake hissed.

'I am not Slytherin's heir' Harry said.

'You won't be able to get away this time' the basilik threatened.

'I did before' Harry sounded sure, but he was trying to stall, to be able to come out with a plan.

The stalling came to an end. Harry could hear the snake getting ready to strike. Having very good instincts because of him being a seeker for many years, he was able to get out of the way just in time.

He landed on his injured foot again, which made him groan. The charms were still on which meant he didn't feel a thing, but he was going to be in a lot of pain later.

The basilik got up again and stroke again, it missed.

Harry rolled over to make the snake miss every strike. He got off the floor as fast as he could and started running through the large pipes.

The basilik behind him.

"Dejavu?" Harry asked himself.

He had been in this exact position, not once, but twice before. He surely didn't learn from his mistakes.

The basilik stroke again, missing Harry by a couple of inches. Harry fell to the floor because of the force of the strike.

He cut his knee, he could feel the blood starting to flow.

A knee and a foot injured, and on the same leg.

He didn't have time to put the same charms on his knee as he had put on his foot though. Adrenaline would have to do. everything happened in a couple of seconds.

He got up quickly and started to run again, the snake still behind him.

He got out of the pipes and was in a large room he hadn't seen before. A dark room, is wasn't as large as the chamber, but it was still big enough.

Now he was in the open. The snake came after him and stroke again. It wasn't able to bite him, but it managed to push him hard with its head. He landed hard on his back.

The snake slowly got off the ground and moved slowly to where Harry had landed.

He was still in a lot of pain, laying on the ground.

Harry closed his eyes when he felt it right over him.

Harry in less than a second took out the diary from his robes. He rolled away, but left the diary where he had been.

When the snake made its strike, he got the diary stuck in on of his fangs, letting all its venom into it.

A horrible shrieking sound could be heard, but the snake paid no attention to it. The only thing on it's mind was to kill Harry.

Harry looked up and saw a crack on the room's ceiling. Hoping it would work, he put all his magic into the spell.

Reducto!

The last thing he saw before it all went black was the open mouth of the basilk.

The power he put on the last spell made him magically exhausted. He didn't know how much time it had passed. He did know he was alive. He was in insufferable pain. He opened his eyes, which were watering quickly and looked to his left.

There was a large rock where he knew his arm was supposed to be. He glanced to the ceiling and saw that the crack he had previously seen wasn't there. A large hole was on its place. The ceiling hadn't fallen down as he had hoped when he had cast the spell. But it had made several holes and more cracks than there had been. He could see several pieces of rock throughout the floor. Only one had reached him.

The snake wasn't there, or at least not where his eyes could see, since he couldn't move to be sure it wasn't there. The charms he had put on his foot where now completely gone, he could feel it throbbing.

He had to get out of the Chambers, he would never be found here if he stayed.

He looked around to see if he could find his wand. He tried to reach around with his free arm until he felt a piece of wood. Letting out a sigh he grabbed what he was sure was his wand.

He was right, it was his wand. His wand in half.

Not that he felt he had enough power to actually perform a spell. He wasn't as attached to this wand as he had been to the holly one he had had once. He still felt naked without it.

He was going to have to use brutal force to remove the rock, at least it wasn't a gigantic piece of rock. He just felt to tired to even move a small one.

He still tried to get into as close to a sitting position he could get. It took him a lot of strength to get there. The pain was becoming unbearable.

With his free hand he tried to push the rock off him. It wouldn't budge.

He stopped for a second to regain some strength and try again.

He was going to have to build up some stamina and strength after he got out of here. This had taught him that he wasn't very fit.

He tried again to move the rock, it did moved. He stopped trying to move it since it hurt even worse when he succeeded.

He lay down again on the floor. He couldn't control the tears coming out of his eyes. He was going to lose that arm, he was sure of it.

He lay there for what felt like an hour. Time was flying by, he needed to get out of there.

He wasn't sure how much blood he had lost, or if his knee had stopped bleeding. He wasn't sure how much time he had been out. He didn't know if the snake had been killed, which he highly doubted by the holes on the ceiling. They weren't large enough to be able to have hurt the gigantic snake.

He got into the somewhat sitting position again and took a couple of breaths. He pushed the rock off his arm with all the strength he had left inside him until it was off his arm.

There was no doubt about it, his arm was at least broken.

The rock had actually helped with the pain, it was ten times worse now that it was gone.

He took off his shirt as carefully as he could and wrapped his arm with it, and around his neck.

If he didn't move it, maybe it would help with the pain.

Since the pain on his arm was the worse, he had forgotten about his foot and knee.

He had been reminded when he had tried to get up and his right leg hadn't supported him, falling back down.

"Bloody Hell!" He cursed. He could barely see with all the tears coming out of his eyes.

He pushed himself with his right arm towards the nearest wall. It took him a while to get there, but once he did, he used it to help himself get up.

He used the wall as support once he had been able to stand up. It had taken a lot out of him.

Not letting go of the wall, he pushed himself towards the tunnels. He remembered getting out through one the last time he had been there, though he didn't know which one.

Slowly but surely he walked through the tunnels until he reached a dead end. Hoping with all his might that it would would he hissed to the wall.

'Open'

It worked, the wall slid open.

He pushed himself off the tunnel and into the empty corridor, falling on his face.

Gasps could be heard.

"Bloody hell!" he cursed to himself again. There were portraits there.

He heard the wall behind him close, before several gasps where heard again.

He pushed himself off the floor using the now closed wall as support.

He was in the seventh floor, he had no idea how he had gotten here. Maybe he could reach the Astronomy tower before the portraits could reach Dumbledore.

"You are just a kid" one of the portraits exclaimed.

"A student?" another one asked.

"The school is supposed to be closed!" One of them said in a reprimanding voice.

"He is hurt!" one of them pointed out.

"Don't move, we will get some help"

Before Harry could say anything they disappeared.

"Damn!" Harry cursed again.

He got to get out of there before the portraits could bring back help.

He pushed himself towards the Astronomy tower as fast as he could. Hopefully it had been dark enough that the portraits hadn't recognized him.

He finally reached the tower and looked for the broom he had left there.

Once he found it, he mounted it and started to fly out of Hogwarts grounds.

He flew above the forbidden forest, the castle wasn't on sight anymore. At least he was out of Hogwarts. Now he had no idea how to get to Godric's Hallow.

He flew for a couple of hours until he could see some lights, telling him he was nearing a town.

He flew towards it and made the broom land once he was above it.

Hoping his broken wand would work, he put it up to summon the Knight bus.

It worked.

The sudden appearance of it, had made him fall to the ground, but at least it was in front of him.

"Do you need some help?" The young boy inside the bus asked.

Harry nodded not trusting his voice.

"To St. Mungos!" The young boy urged the driver once he had gotten Harry inside.

"No" Harry protested as loud as he could.

"You are hurt" The boy stated.

"To Godric's Hallow" Harry stated.

"You need to see a healer" the boy urged.

"My mom is a healer" Harry half lied.

"To Godric's Hallow!" The boy told the driver, not very convinced.

Harry fell asleep the drive there, until he was nudge awake by the boy that had helped him in.

"Godric Hallow" He said with obvious concern.

Harry pushed himself up and saw that he was indeed in Godric's Hallow.

"Thank you" Harry said, giving him a galleon.

Harry got off the bus and saw it disappear before his eyes.

He wasn't going to be able to walk to his house. He got on the broom one more time and flew a lot slower towards it.

It took him almost half an hour until he landed inside his room. He had flown towards the open window.

He pushed himself towards his bed and fell asleep as soon as his head had touched the pillow.

"I'm sorry James" Sirius told his friend.

"It is my fault" James sighed.

"Don't say that" Sirius told him angrily.

"It is!" James looked into his best friend's eyes. James let out a tear.

It had been almost 24 hours since the last time he had seen his son. He had made his son run away, and now he had no idea where he was.

Lily had been preoccupied with Danielle, so she didn't know her son was missing yet. How was he supposed to tell her he had lost their son?

Sirius, Peter and Remus were sitting in the dining room table trying to come up with other places they could look for Harry.

He was 12 years old, he couldn't be too far away.

They had looked with the Weasleys even though they knew they weren't that close.

They had even tried with the Malfoys and the Notts.

Neither family had been to happy to see James Potter in their fireplace, and had made it seen that he wasn't welcomed.

Remus snapped his head up, as if he had heard something that no one else had.

"What is wrong Moony?" Sirius asked his friend.

"I heard something upstairs" Remus answered.

"Lily and Danielle are upstairs" James answered.

Remus nodded, though he was still looking up.

"I smell blood" Remus stated.

"What?" Peter squeaked.

Remus got off the stairs and followed the smell.

Sirius, James and a scared Peter behind.

Remus stopped once he was outside Harry's room.

James pushed aside his friend and opened the door, to see his 12 year old son covered in blood on his bed.

"Call St. Mungo" Remus ordered Sirius, who ran as fast as he could towards the fireplace.

James walked towards Harry with an obvious scared expression.

"Don't touch him" Remus stopped James.

James looked at him terrified.

"You could hurt him more than he already is" Remus explained.

"How? What?" James asked his friend.

"First we need to make sure he is ok" Remus told him, "Then you can ask him whatever you want"

James nodded, and looked towards his son again.

"You should tell Lily" Remus stated.

"No" James answered without taking his eyes off Harry.

"She is his mother" Remus said.

"She doesn't need to know, she hasn't gotten over what happened to Danielle" James said.

"Danielle is fine" Remus told him.

"She hasn't woken up yet" James said concerned.

Remus nodded.

Sirius walked inside the room with a healer behind him.

"There!" Sirius pointed at Harry, "Make him better!"

"I'll try" the healer said.

Sirius grabbed him by the arm, "Make him better" he threatened.

The healer nodded and walked towards the boy.
