02. Dinner Conversation (Shawn/Morgana)
"So how do you become a witch?"
He had only lived with her in the cabin for a few days, and there were still questions burning in his mind to ask her which he was too tentative to mention. Yet, now, as they sipped quietly on some stew and fell into the awkward silence of new, forced acquaintance, as he glimpsed a slight relaxation in her shoulders he hadn't seen before now, they burst from his mouth.
The spoon lifting toward Morgana's lips froze in place, and she eyed him skeptically. "What are you talking about?"
"Oh, you know. Witchcraft. That whole thing. It seems really awesome, so I was wondering how I can get in on that."
She laughed harshly before taking another spoonful, smiling as the warmth filled her stomach. "You can't simply become a witch, Shawn. You can learn magic, I suppose, but if you are not born with the gift you can never hold any true power."
Shawn nodded slowly, as if processing information. "So, like Charmed then?"
Her brow furrowed. "What?"
"Charmed. Like the TV show. Like, a normal person can use magic but it's not really that impressive. More of a card trick. But you can be powerful if you're born with magic, but you have to learn about spells and stuff to properly use it, or else Shannen Doherty gets killed."
"Shawn, I have no idea what you're talking about," she said, an exasperated sigh in her voice.
"It's TV, Morgana. Television," he answered indignantly. "God, it's like living in the Middle Ages around here... And that expression has never been so appropriate."
"Shawn, just eat your stew and be quiet."
He shot her a look, slightly amused and slightly offended, and took another bite.
