Love and Pain

Love, Zevran discovers, has no positive outcomes. It all ends in pain; pain for him, mostly, and pain for friends, and family.

He loved Kallian. Loved her more than he thought possible, promised it to her every day, every hour that he could, because it never stopped being true, never stopped bringing that smile to her face, the one that no one else could manage: I am yours.

And he was, body and soul, hers. He wears her earring in his ear, the one he gave her, because he needs to remember, needs to keep those moments with him; the moments of her smile, and her laugh; the moments she chewed on her lip, looking for the words to say, and the moments she stopped searching and told him, again and again, because she was afraid he'd forget it: I love you.

He needs to keep these memories, because forgetting her is losing her all over again, and he can't do it. He can't let her slip from his grasp.

Not again.
