Apple Bloom was walking back to Apple Acres after a rough day of crusading with her friends, Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo. The two fillies joined her on the way home; Granny Smith was offering them all apple pies.

"I sure can't wait for my slice of pie!" Scootaloo licked her lips.

"Hey girls, what's that?!" Sweetie pointed over to a big crowd of ponies on the side of the road, where a large stage was set up.

Apple Bloom was curious. "Ionno girls, but I reckon we should go an' find out!" Scootaloo beat the way through the crowd to the front with her tiny orange wings, allowing sweetie and Apple Bloom to make it there too. They noticed an empty stage at first.

"I don't see what the big deal here is..." Apple Bloom said, but was put off guard as a flash of blue smoke engulfed the center of the stage, and fireworks lit off.

A voice boomed from the center as a blue mare appeared, wearing a rather stereotypical purple magician's outfit. "Greetings ponies of ponville! For I, the Great and Powerful Trixie have made my return to your humble town once again!"

The three fillies giggled, remembering what the older mares like Apple Jack said about the last time Trixie showed up, but they were still interested in seeing what tricks she had now. "I won't bore you with further introduction to my many, MANY exploits..." A small cough echoed from the back of the crowed, being met with a sneer from the blue unicorn. "So I shall leap right into the act! Now..." the unicorn motioned towards the crowd with a raised hoof, taking a step forward, as if inviting someone to a duel. "Would anypony be brave enough to volunteer in an act of whimsy and wonder?"

Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo both looked to their big-bow wearing friend, who had no fear in her eyes. "I'll do it!" Apple Bloom jumped on the stage, her energy startling all but the blue unicorn herself.

"Well well well, rather brave for a young filly..." Trixie commented, "or foalish..." Some in the crowd laughed, as Apple Bloom looked out disapprovingly, her cheek puffing out. Trixie continued, "Tell me little filly, what kind of things do you do at home?"

"Why I help ma sister buck apples!" Apple Bloom proudly exclaimed, despite the fact her legs were still too weak to really do much harvesting.

"How appropiate then!" Trixie responded, and began pulling out a shiny red fruit from under her cape, "then perhaps you don't mind if I place one on your head, for my opening act!"

"Nawt at all!" Apple Bloom felt confident; if this was a magic act, she could do a pretty good job of making the apple disappear herself! Shoopidity Doobity Doo Wop and Sweeite Belle both looked on, wondering what was going to happen to their friend.

Trixie walked out the other end of the stage, and called out to Apple Bloom, "Now little filly, for everypony's safety you must remain perfectly still, do you understand?"

"Sure nuff do!" Apple Bloom yelled, almost nodding her head but realigning herself so the apple didn't fall off.

"Good!" Trixie took out a revolver and blew a gaping hole through Apple Bloom's skull, one of her large amber eyes stuck hanging from the socket while another flew into the crowd, plopping onto a unicorn's horn. Blood gushed out as the filly's body fell forward with a simple thump, the shiny apple rolling onto the floor, but picked up by trixie's levitation before being dirtied in the increasing blood pool.

"See?!" she yelled out, "The apple remains completely unharmed!" the whole crowd stomped their hooves in excitement, incredibly impressed with such a marvelous act!

Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle laughed.
