I followed Johnny, he ran for awhile then slowed down, but he didn't stop walking till he made it to Buck's. He didn't even knock on the door, he just walked right in and went up to the room Dally always sleeps in. Dally use to have his own place, but he go evicted for being a jailbird and never paying the rent and bills. So he basically sleeps at our place or Buck's and if he has a girl, her place.

The door was shut, Johnny knocked on it. Dally opened after a few moments. "Hey Johnnycake what's up?"

"Can I come in?" Johnny asked, his voice all shaky. Dally could tell something was up.

"Sure c'mon in, what's wrong?" Dally opened the door wider and Johnny walked in, sat in an empty chair in the corner.

"Not much, just made the mistake of going home. My pap beat me again. The usual." Johnny explained. Dally growled.

"I could kill that guy, I really could. Sick bastard." Dally then noticed the dried up blood on Johnny's wrist. He looked at it suspiciously. "S'that from your old man?" He asked. Johnny quickly looked then pulled his jacket sleeve over it.

"Yeah he um, cut me with his beer bottle." He lied. I could tell Dally didn't buy it but he didn't say anything more about it. Johnny then noticed a half-packed suitcase on Dally's bed, I did too. "What's with the suitcase man?"

"Oh um, I'm leaving. Going back to New York for a few months. Just need to get out of this town for awhile." Dally explained, he then started folding some shirts and putting them in. I couldn't believe it. Dally was leaving? And going back to New York? New York's a lot rougher than here, more gangs, and more violent ones at that. Dally told us stories about it, one guy he knew got knifed across his abdomen so deep he bleed to death in an alley. Why would he wanna go back? Cause of me? That was probably why, I'll bet you that was probably why. Johnny just sat there for a few minutes, staring at the ground, Dally continued packing, Johnny finally stood up.

"Take me with you." He said to Dally. Dallas looked at him like he had two heads.

"What?"

"I wanna go with you. Please, let me come."

"No, no, no, Johnny. New York is rough man. I'm only going so I can get out of here for awhile and clear my head." Dally said.

"What? You think I don't need to clear my head too? My best friend just died for Christ's sake! 'Sides there's no reason for me to stay here. Ponyboy's gone, Socs are after me for killing one of 'em, and my folks treat me like dirt. I'm nothing here, so why should I even stay?"

"So you think you'll be worth something in New York? Look we both know how you are Johnny. Shy, jumpy, New York is twice as bad as here you don't think people will be on your ass there? Wrong! They'll be just as bad, hell even worse. And it won't just be Socs it'll be other gangs too." Dallas said. I've never seen him talk to Johnny like this before.

"I don't care Dally I need to get out of this hellhole! It's suffocating me and if I stay any longer, I'll go crazy, I'll kill myself I know it! So please, Dally, let me come with you. Please." Johnny begged with sincere desperation in his voice.

"Alright, alright you can come. But if you're doing it to run away from your problems it won't work. Trust me, I've done it before." Dallas finally said.

"I'm not doing it to run away from problems, I'm doing it so I can have a place where I can breathe." Said Johnny. Dally just nodded.

An hour later Johnny and Dallas were packed and ready to go. Johnny wrote a letter to Soda and the rest of the gang to explain. He gave it to Buck to give it to them. Both Dally and Johnny agreed it was too hard to say goodbye to them all in person. I kinda wish they would though.

As Johnny and Dallas started walking down the road toward the train station Johnny turned his head around and I saw him whisper, "Bye Ponyboy."

"Bye Johnny"
