A/N: I got a little bit obsessed with Superman and Caro Emerald (amazing singer, check her out) recently and when I heard the song 'Just One Dance' this popped into my head and wouldn't leave me alone until I wrote it down. And as I was writing it, one thing led to another and a plot involving batman happened. And so, this was produced.
This is, of course, just a prologue so tell me what you think. Should I continue? Yes? No? Leave a review to tell me.

The 'f-word' is used once (I think) in this, so if you don't like swearing; here's your warning.

I swallowed my nerves.

It's just a performance! You've done this a thousand– if not more – times before. You'll be fine. Just because this is at Bruce's main party of the year doesn't mean it's any different. Just because there will be news coverage…

…And they were back. Fuckin' A.

I squeezed my eyes tightly shut and focussed on remembering the words to the songs on tonight's set list.

"Ready?" Jacob, my bassist, brought me out of my thoughts.

"As I'll ever be," I shrugged, feeling slightly calmer "How long 'til we're on?"

"About five minutes."

I nodded and shut my eyes again.

Breathe. In, out, don't forget the words, in, out.

My fears of forgetting the words weren't entirely irrational. It had happened before; granted not at a gig as big as this, but I was still nervous.

"Jess!"

My head jerked up. "Eh?"

"Get ready, we're about to be introduced. We have about 30 seconds until we're on stage."

Alright. I can do this. I bounced on my toes a little, preparing myself Just. A. Gig. Just like any other…

"And without further ado, please welcome Jessa Napier and her band to the stage!"

Show time.

I bounced up the stage steps where my custom microphone stood waiting for me. I caught Bruce's eye and my nerves disappeared again. I grinned

"I hope everybody's having a good evening! Let's get this started, shall we?"

"Thank you! Now, this last song is a cover. This is 'Just One Dance' by Caro Emerald," The adrenaline was coursing through me. The only place I could get a buzz like this was performing. It was my favourite thing in the universe.

I clicked my fingers in time with the beat.

Hey, handsome, have you got the time?

I surveyed the room once again and found him again. I didn't know who he was, but he'd caught my eyes when he first entered the room – unfortunately with another woman who seemed to be his date from the way he was looking at her - and I'd barely been able to look away since.

I've been watching you since the moment you arrived'

I smirked as I realised the lyrics I was singing reflected what was happening in the moment. He was cute, wearing a fitted suit and glasses that my best friend, Jules, would describe as 'adorkable'. I assumed he was also part of the press from the way he and his maybe-date kept writing things down. He seemed pretty friendly with Bruce; maybe I'd be able to get him to introduce us after.

Stop getting distracted; it's not over yet I scolded myself.

I tore my gaze away and closed my eyes, feeling myself get lost in the music.
