FIRST ENCOUNTER
Location: Mystic Falls, Virginia, (Mrs. Lockwood's Home)
Time: 01: 06: 44
Once lunchtime struck and I was satisfied with how many people I got to know, I decided to leave. The only reason I did so was so I continue working; only this time, I was spying on the Founder's council meeting.
The perks of blending in with everyone and all the unnecessary petty cliques around the school meant that information was circulated quickly. It didn't take long before eavesdropping on a few conversations that led to revealing how one of the girls was talking about the last 'animal attack'. Apparently it had been 'totes gross' but the only thing helpful was the fact that their father was going to talk about this in this afternoon's council meeting.
That was why I was now parking my new Kia around the block of the Lockwood House.
Another perk of a small town was how easy it was to get the information. All I had to do was compliment the girl's hair and she then gave me what I needed.
Jacob had overheard and offered to come but I told him to stay back. All he was doing was flirting with the girls and messing with the guys. I caught him discussing the football try-outs and I feared that he would lose objective and let 'fun' get in the way.
Our story seemed to click – care kids who were now best friends – practically siblings, using their trust funds to live their lives independently. I did get the occasional pity looks whereas Jake was simply flooded with all the girls' numbers. When he accepted them with an easy smile, I could no longer tell if he was playing the part anymore.
It seemed that I would have to be strong for the both of us.
…starting with the council meeting.
Stepping out of the car, I pushed at the door and walked around and paused. Before walking up, my gaze discreetly swept across the empty streets and then walked up the driveway. A dozen cars were parked outside the large white mansion which indicated that I was in the right place.
Rather than walking through the front door, I pressed my back against the wall and crept around to the back. As I inched closer to the garden, I could hear the voices…
'The recent attack was already cleared so no need to alert anyone'
'We don't want to cause any panic'
'What about the family?'
'We tell them'
'And the autopsy?'
'Don't worry, I'll talk to Dr. Chen. She will be easy to persuade"
'Maybe we should warn the town. We've got Original vampires here and it isn't exactly safe'
'So what? Everyone evacuates?'
'We're trying'
'Stop ignoring my calls Damon'
'You're not the only woman in my life Liz'
Okay, so it was obvious that even the council had been infiltrated. Damon…as in Damon Salvatore, brother to Stefan Salvatore. The one that was dating the human Elena Gilbert. The same girl that this Damon character obviously had feelings for. PI photos never lie.
I was still unsure as to whether the Elena girl knew about their true nature.
Anyway, for now it didn't matter.
Still pressed against the brick wall, I bowed down, ducking under the window sill as I neared the back door. The hard metal of my Glock '17 burnt hot against my thigh, itching to be whipped out and used to for it's first Virginia kill.
Seventeen wooden bullets; perfectly carved by yours truly. Then they spent weeks soaked in vervain before being slipped into my beloved Glock. They were pointed as to sink deeper into the muscle tissue, jagged so that they can cause more damage and vervain laced to paralyse. Jake had shaken his head at the wide sadistic grin I had adorned when sharpening the tips. He said-
"What are you doing?"
A gasp was about to leave me but I bit down on my lip, squeezing my eyes shut.
Fuck!
Rolling back my shoulders, I straightened up and released the breath I didn't realise I had been holding. Clearing my throat, I tried to find the right words when turning to face him. "I was trying to find…"
Pearly white skin…Humoured arrogant smile playing on pink lips…Furrowed eyebrows…Penetrating aged blue eyes hinted with amusement and annoyance…
Klaus.
"Tyler?" he arched an eyebrow, interrupting my observation.
Suddenly anxious and feel completely unprepared, I took a small step back. I hated how intimidated I was but I fought against the numbing fear when locking my hands behind me. "Yes" I nodded.
"He should be in school" he informed me and took a distinctive step towards me. I held my ground and fought against stepping back. Those piercing sea-blue eyes seemed to ensnare me, locking my muscles into place and I wasn't sure if it was out of fear…or fascination. "Which is where you should be" he murmured lowly, never straying away from my face.
"It's lunchtime" I replied, feeling slightly more confident.
He crossed his arms and continued to study me. "Doesn't the school provide meals for you?" he challenged.
"It does but I'm not hungry" I shrugged noncommittally, still trying to think of an excuse. It was a small town, everyone knew everyone. I was uncertain as to how long he had been in Virginia but it was obvious he would know I was new to town.
My fingers itched but I clasped them together, feigning innocence. I couldn't shoot him now. I had to be patient until my orders were given. For now, it would be surveillance, calculating, digging and investigating.
Still wearing that arrogant smirk, he questioned, "Why did you not speak to Tyler at school?"
"I didn't see him so I thought he was here" I lied easily. I was proud to say that I got that trait from my father. "I should go" I excused myself but rather than running, I remained inconspicuous with my slow steps to the car.
Sadly it would not be that easy as the heavy English accent was brushing my ear again. "What did you say your name was again?" he whispered and I felt a shiver run through my shoulders and down my spine, causing me to pause.
"I didn't" I murmured and continued to walk away. However, something about him and his whole demeanour annoyed me, causing me to stop and turn to him. "You seem too young to be his father" I accused.
"That's because I'm not" he answered composedly.
Crossing my arms, I met his stare. "Then you don't really deserve an explanation"
"His mother's inside, I can ask her to speak to you instead" he said, turning the tables back onto me.
Cursing myself several times, I drew up the walls again. "You already told me that Tyler was in school" I reminded him and made a move to walk away.
"Why did you want him? You do know he has a lady on his arm" he taunted and I could hear the smile in his condescending voice.
I rolled my eyes and tentatively turned back to him. "He's the football captain and I thought that I…"
"You want to play football?" he chuckled and shook his head.
Suddenly my feminist side rose and I glared at him. My hands now on my hips as my lips were drawn into a reprimanding grimace. "Why do you say it like that?" I snapped.
"Well you are a…" he trailed off but I understood with how he waved me over.
"A girl? Yes, I am" I replied, frustrated and feeling the anger spark. "Nice observation you pretentious sexist prick" I snarked and my hands curled into fists, pressed onto my thighs as I fought for control. The last thing I wanted was for him to be under my radar.
A flicker of danger flashed in his eyes but it was overcome with his heavy "Pretty girls should use pretty words"
Before I knew it, I slapped him.
His head still whipped to the side but I was sure it was more from shock of what I had done than the force behind it. Both of us stood…stunned and unmoving. Heavy breaths filled the silence and I knew I couldn't be the first to speak. For one, I would not be giving him an apology.
Finally he reached up to touch his cheek. Now he seemed more amused than ever but the smile vanished when he faced me. Eyes blazed with seriousness that rivalled his tone. "That is the last time that will ever happen" he warned.
After one last look, it was him that walked away.
So much for first impressions!
A/N: I hate first impressions – too much pressure. Always suck at it because I either talk too much or don't talk at all. What do you think of Bella x Klaus? He seems to push the right buttons…
