Kimi sighed as she finished taping the box she was packing. She and the others have been going crazy with preparations the last few days. She placed the box on top of one of the many other boxes crowding up the room.
She let out a yawn as she stretched her arms over head. They had been packing for a majority of the morning and part of the early afternoon, but there was still some things they had yet to do.
She heard footsteps heading in her direction and looked up to see Deidara. "Tobi wanted to go out for a walk, hm " He said irritably, tugging on a black and red hoodie. "Do you want to come?" Kimi shook her head at him.
"No thanks, there's still some things I want to finish first."
"Tch, whatever, hm." He said, tying his long, blonde hair into his usual half ponytail. "I'll see you guys later." She said.
"Alright." He replied, walking over to the front door where Tobi was waiting.
"Bye Kimi-chan!" He called cheerfully.
"Bye Tobi!" She called back as the two walked out, the front door closing behind them.
Kimi shook her head as her blue gray eyes darted towards the counter, where her sketchbook was currently lying. She walked over to it and picked it up, flipping through the pages. Some of the drawings were relatively normal, the rest, not entirely.
Not unless you count large, inhuman beasts donned with white masks and holes in the chest area normal. These things always haunted her dreams, she didn't know what they were.
She wasn't sure if she wanted to know. Her eyes glanced down at the page she stopped on. The sketch on it was of a boy who looked like he was around her age. Sounds pretty normal, right? It was, except that the boy was also in her dreams and looked a lot like her.
There were the little differences of course. His hair swept across one of his eyes while hers swept over her forehead. In her dreams his eyes were a dark shade of gray, while hers were more blue. He was always in her dreams, but she didn't exactly know who he was.
"Who are you?" She asked as she stared at the picture. Silence was the only response she was going to get. A sigh escaped her lips as she closed the sketchbook. 'This is just a phase,' She thought. 'A very weird phase.'
Deep down she knew it really wasn't, but it's a lot easier to lie to yourself than it is to accept the truth.
Her eyes scanned the room, taking in every detail. She will no longer wake up and see this every morning the day after tomorrow. She will be in another country, waking up under a different ceiling. How many times has she moved in the last few years?
'At least I'm going to a place I know,' She thought as she walked out of the room, her ponytail bouncing as she moved. 'A nap wouldn't hurt, right?' She asked herself as she walked into her shared bedroom, nearly everything was gone, save for a few personal possessions and the beds.
Her eyes glanced towards the clock still hanging on the wall. 'Two'o'Clock. Yeah, a nap won't hurt.' She thought, climbing into her bed, letting out a yawn as she pulled up the covers. It didn't take too long for her eyes to close and her breathing to become even.
~Dream Time~
"..Wake up." A distant voice said. Kimi's eye twitched slightly. "Miss, wake up." A small groan escaped her lips as she turned to her side. She heard a sigh and small footsteps walk around the room. Suddenly a bright light hit her eyelids, causing her to sit up abruptly, shielding her eyes.
She looked over to the window, seeing that the curtains were pulled back and one of the servants standing with an apologetic look in her eyes. "Apologies miss," She said, bowing her head. "It's important that you wake up early today."
'What's so important?' She thought as she stretched her arms over her head. A quick glance at the servant's arms made her remember. Shinigami robes. Today was her first day of starting work at Squad Four.
"Again, my apologies miss." The servant said with a bow.
"It's alright," Kimi replied. "I understand, there's no need to apologize."
"Of course miss."
'Just call me by my name.' Kimi thought as she stretched. She didn't really like being acknowledged so formally, sure she came from a noble family, but that didn't mean she needed special attention. Unfortunately others didn't quite think the same way.
"So the usual morning routine today?" The servant asked her as she set the robes on her counter. "Or would you like to try anything new?"
"The usual." Kimi replied, sitting up straighter. The servants are constantly trying to get her to do new things with her fashion and appearance. "Alright then." She said with a small smile, but Kimi didn't miss the small look of disappointment in her eyes.
She sighed as she stood up, reaching to pull off her pajamas, but the hands of the servant stopped her. "Let me handle that miss." She said. Kimi nodded in response, biting back a sigh as she stood still to let the servant do her job.
'And so my day begins.' She thought.
-Later-
Kimi smiled softly as she walked down the familiar halls of Squad Four behind some of the other new members. They had finished going through the newcomer's ceremony and were now heading out to perform their first duties...Clean up around the barracks.
'Makes sense,' She thought. 'The patients tend to get restless so the squad often needed cleaning. At least they don't leave too big of a mess.'
She stopped when the group turned the corner. 'But then again there are those type of patients.' She thought as her eyes scanned the hall, which was littered with food and small parts of broken plates.
"Well, time to get to work." She said to herself as she readied the broom in her hands, the others shortly following suit. She heard some of he others groan as they started to work. Well, they couldn't exactly complain at this time.
They were told that seating would take place during the next few days, so they had to work at their best and keep complaints at a minimum if they were to be placed in a decent seat.
They weren't working for too long when an outburst sounded out from down the hall. Kimi, along with the others, turned her head to see what the commotion was all about. It was just a patient complaining to one of the squad members about the food. Judging by his bulky appearance, she concluded that he was from Squad Eleven.
They were the rowdiest patients, always stirring up trouble when they pleased. The only one who prevented them from going too far was Captain Unohana. Everyone seemed to fear her, which Kimi found strange. How could someone so calm be feared by every one?
A sudden crash and large footsteps resounded throughout the hall, tearing her from her thoughts as she looked up again. The patient had dumped the tray of food from the squad member's hands and was angrily making his way down the hall while the member yelled at him.
"Out of my way!" He yelled as he shoved through every one. Some of the newer members jumped out of his way as he stormed down the halls, others simply stared at him in shock. He appeared to notice, as he stopped in front of one of the girls.
"What the fuck are you staring at?" He barked in her face. "N-Nothing!" She stammered. "Bullshit!" He yelled. "I-I wasn't!" She defended. Kimi felt anger rising in her stomach, she wasn't one for anger, her brother was known for that. But that didn't mean she couldn't get angry too.
"Leave her alone!" She yelled as she stormed up to the two, the others watching in shock. She was a noble, after all, it wasn't a noble's job to argue with commoners. The bulky patient turned to look down at her, the height difference left her looking at his chest, which scared her a bit, but she wouldn't let that get to her right now.
"What did you just say to me?" He barked.
Her voice faltered in her throat for a second before she managed to blurt out, "L-Leave her alone, it's our first day, just give us a break." A smirk crossed his features. "Oh yeah? Who's gonna make me?" He asked cooly.
She opened her mouth to respond, but he cut her off, "What , you? Give me a break!" He laughed. "Women can't fight, they're too weak and get scared too easy. That's why you end up in Squad Four." She heard some of the female members gasp, which further increased her anger. 'The nerve of this man!' She thought.
"That's not true!" He let out another laugh. "If you believe that then why don't you fight?" He asked, shoving her roughly into the wall behind her, Kimi letting out a cry as her back slammed into it.
Before anyone could react, a familiar voice resounded throughout the hall. "What is going on here?" Kimi, along with everybody else, turned their heads to see Unohana walking down the hall towards them.
"There are patients resting," She scolded. "Why are you making so much noise?" Her footsteps stopped once she came upon the scene. Her eyes were looking at Kimi, who was avoiding her gaze, a look of embarrassment and fear adorning her features.
There was a tense silence for a while, until Unohana spoke, "Causing trouble again aren't we,Mitsahiru?" She asked, her voice perfectly even.
Mitsahiru gulped, his eyes showing fear. 'Why does he look so scared?' Kimi thought.
"You do understand that there are others trying to rest, right?" She said. "Care to explain why you're causing so much noise?"
"U-uh well..." His voice trailed off,his eyes darting between Kimi and Unohana.
"Complaining about the food again, I presume?"
He kept staring at her, too afraid to speak.
"Do remember that you're under the care of my squad." She said, giving him a closed eye smile.
"Your life is in their hands." She said cooly, her eyes opening with a deadly stare.
Mitsahiru let out a yelp and ran down the hallway, yelling out apologies as he turned the corner.
Unohana blinked in confusion. "Well," she said. "I wonder why he ran off like he saw some form of ghost."
A small giggle escaped Kimi's lips as the other members started snickering. 'So that's why everyone seems scared of her.' She thought.
She watched as the other squad members moved to get back to work, going to join them, but was stopped by Unohana's gentle hand on her shoulder.
"Are you alright?" She asked quietly.
"Yes," Kimi replied. "There's no need to worry."
'Will she tell grandfather?' Kimi thought, worried. Her grandfather wouldn't approve of her actions. "You're not being lady like." He would scold.
Unohana gave a small smile,as if she read her thoughts. "Don't worry, I won't tell him." Kimi smiled in relief. "Thank you captain."
"You're welcome, now get back to your duties." Kimi bowed and turned to walk away, not wanting anything else to happen on her first day.
~End of Dream~
Kimi's eyes opened as she sat up groggily. She looked around at the now darkened bedroom, seeing that it was emptier than it was before she fell asleep. 'Deidara must have came in and packed whatever I had left.' She thought as she stretched her arms over her head.
Her mind wandered back to the dream she just had. 'Soul Society:Squad Four. Where the hell are these places even located?' She thought. Soul Society was bound to exist somewhere, right? So why can't Kimi find it?
'It's too late to deal with this.' She thought as her eyes read that it was 12:30 A.M. on the clock. 'And it's too late to do anything else.' She sighed as she layed back down on the mattress, her eyes trying to take in as much of her bedroom as they could. She won't be seeing this anymore. But she woudn't miss it too much, everyday was just the same. 'Maybe now my life will finally begin.' She thought as her hands reached up to'tne necklace around her neck, her fingers clasping around the small ring that hung from it. 'And I won't feel like something's missing...' Her thoughts drifted as sleep took her again.
