-Kuchiki Manor-
"Good morning sir." The servants greeted with a bow as Byakuya walked down the halls of the manor. He gave a small nod in acknowledgement, his slate gray eyes scanning the doors as he walked.
He paused as he spotted the one he was searching for. His hands quietly opened the door as he stepped inside of the room behind it,shutting the door as he silently walked in.
The elders always questioned why he never had this room cleaned out, seeing as it was no longer occupied, but he never had the heart to do it. The guilt always came back to eat at him whenever he thought about it.
His eyes looked around the room, taking in all of the familiar details. He still made sure the room was clean. 'She never liked it dirty,' He thought with a sigh. He walked over to the small shrine he had placed in the far end of the room. Taking a seat quietly in front of it, Byakuya reached up to open the small doors, revealing the small photograph placed carefully slate gray pools met the bright blue ones in the photo.
'Kimi.' The name ran through his head as he looked at it. The familiar sense of guilt overcame him as his head sulked down. 'I'm sorry.'
He lifted his head, his eyes travelling down to the small ring set before the frame. It was a simple, silver ring. There used to be a small engraving on the side, but time eventually rusted that away.
It was a promise he and Kimi made years ago, he always used to think it was childish, but Kimi always argued against that. But that promise was broken, and there was nothing he could do to fix that.
'This is my fault.' He thought bitterly, his slate gray eyes closing in grief. 'I can't take back what I have done. I hope you understand that I was a fool. I should have believed you, but I didn't. And look where that ended up.'
He sighed, trying to calm his nerves, unclenching the fists he didn't know he had clenched. 'I just hope you're happy, where ever you are. You and Hisana both.'
"Sir?" He heard a voice call, interrupting his thoughts.
He turned to the door, seeing one of the servants standing there. The servant gave a small bow before speaking,"I don't mean to intrude, but a message has arrived from the head captain."
Byakuha nodded, extending his hand to receive the small hell butterfly.
'A captain's meeting, it's discussing an urgent matter.' Was all it had to say.
Byakuya let out a sigh as the hell butterfly and servant took their leave, he wasn't expecting to leave for another hour. But apparently this was a serious issue, and he had to go tend to it. His eyes looked up to the picture once more.
'I must leave, a serious issue has come up.' He reached up to close the small doors to the shrine before standing up. He made Hus way towards the door, turning his head once he had his hand on the handle.
"Goodbye Kimi." He said into the silence, turning to leave the room, shutting the door quietly behind him.
-Meeting Room-
"Hey Captain Kuchiki." Shunsui greeted as Byakuya walked silently into the meeting room. "Good morning Byakuya." Ukitake greeted next to him. Byakuya gave only a simple nod as he moved to stand in his place as the Head Captain began calling the meeting to order.
Silence filled the room as Yamamoto cleared his throat to speak. "Recently there have been strong senses of spiritual pressure detected in the World of the Living." He stated gruffly.
"We have reason to believe that this spiritual pressure is of Aizen's arrancars." The eyes of the other captains grew cold at the familiar name. "We believe that Aizen may be planning an attack on Karakura Town. We mustn't let that happen." Everyone stood silent, wondering where this was leading.
"I shall be sending out a team of soul reapers to Karakura Town. The mission there will be to exterminate the arrancar that is causing all of the spiritual pressure." Murmurs began to fill the room, wondering who was to be chosen to go on the mission. Silence filled the room once again as Yamamoto spoke.
"Those who are chosen shall be called over to the squad one barracks. This concludes the meeting. You are all dismissed." Chatter began filling the halls as the captains began taking their leave to return to their squads.
-Squad Six-
The only noise filling the office was the sound of a pen scribbling on paper. Renji was out delivering paperwork, so Byakuya was left alone in the office. The silence was calming, most days the squad was bustling around noisily, but today wasn't like that. For once, things were calm.
Byakuya's thoughts went back to the meeting. A possible arrancar in Karakura Town. He couldn't help but think about Rukia, she was still on her mission there after all. He didn't want to think about what would happen if he were to lose her.
To lose another sister...
He shook his head, trying to clear these thoughts.'She will be fine.' He thought. 'She's stronger than she looks.' He stopped writing to take a sip of tea, trying to calm his nerves.
He looked up,his slate gray eyes spotting a hell butterfly making it's way towards him. He extended his hand, letting the hell butterfly land to deliver it's message.
'Report to the barracks of Squad One.' It stated before flying off.
Byakuya sat in silence, looks like the Head Captain chose him for the mission. He let out a sigh before he stood up,he couldn't leave him waiting.
-Squad One-
-Head Captain's Office-
"Captain Kuchiki." Yamamoto greeted as Byakuya walked into his office.
"Head Captain." Byakuya replied.
"You received the hell butterfly that was sent I see."
"Yes."
"I shall be sending you and your lieutenant to Karakura Town tomorrow. You recognize the dangers, right?" He asked.
"Of course." Byakuya replied.
"Very well, the two of you leave in the morning, understood?"
"Yes Head Captain."
"Good, you are dismissed." Byakuya gave a curt nod before turning and walking out of the office.
He had some preparations to make before he and Renji leave tomorrow, so he had to finish work before tending to that. His eyes glanced up at the sky as he walked down the halls outside.
'You'd be proud if you were still alive.' He thought. 'Head of the Kuchiki clan, and captain of Squad Six. Just like I used to dream about when we were children.'
Flashbacks of him and Kimi began to fill his head as he walked. 'If only you were here to see me now.'
The sky reminded him so much of her eyes, blue and bright. 'I let you down all those years ago. I will not do that anymore.' His slate gray eyes grew hard in an old sense of determination.
'Your memory will not go in vain. I can promise you this, Kimi.'
