Itachi was relaxing in his and Kisame's room at the Akatsuki base. It was a compound, roughly the size of his clan's with several sections dedicated to the needs of the members. There was a massive dojo for the members to spar (taijutsu only), a ritual room for Hidan, and a safe for Kakuzu to keep their money. There was even a pool for Kisame and a puppetry workshop for Sasori.

Itachi was content in his shared room. He meditated there, the one place he would be uninterrupted. If Kisame came in, he would get whatever it was he wanted, and leave quietly. That's what most of the members, even loudmouth Deidara, did if they were looking for the Uchiha. Well, except Hidan.

Oh, how Itachi despised Hidan! He was rude and uncouth and everything about him just screamed tactless. When he had entered Akatsuki and was partnered up with Kakuzu (the fifth one that week), Itachi made a bet with the others how long Hidan would last. Kisame bet one day, Sasori three hours, Deidara two days, and Itachi fifteen minutes. Pain told them amusedly Hidan couldn't die. None of them believed it until they saw it themselves. It was their main entertainment, watching Hidan infuriate Kakuzu, while getting out of the way when the two went at it.

There were three signs of a fight getting ready to happen between the two. First: verbal barbs. Hidan complains about Kakuzu being a miser and a heathen, Kakuzu calls Hidan longwinded and his religion a waste of time. Second: Hidan pulls his beloved scythe out. Kakuzu threatens to kill him. Finally, third: the two engage in the battle of all battles in which Kisame alerts all the members to. Even Pain comes down to watch the two go at it.

There was a crash, startling him enough to actually make him get up, kunai ready. He heard the other's questioning grumbles and Deidara's loud voice demanding what happened. The only two whose voices Itachi could not hear were Kakuzu's and Hidan's. Wordlessly, he left his room, walking down the hall. Deidara was dragging an irate Sasori outside. He followed the pair to one of the large training grounds. Kisame, Pain, Konan, and Zetsu were already standing there.

"I said I was fucking sorry!" The voice was directly behind him. He turned around to see Hidan barreling toward him.

Hidan, whose reflexes were shamefully quicker than Itachi's at that moment, leapt over him and continued sprinting away.

"Itachi, look out!" Kisame's warning came too late.

Kakuzu's momentum and blind rage pushed into Itachi. Itachi grunted in pain and annoyance as the old miser simply continued on his rampage, barreling the Uchiha over. Deidara snickered. "Nice going, Uchiha, yeah!"

Itachi got up and brushed his cloak off, ignoring Deidara. He'd get him back later. He went over and stood beside Kisame.

"Bets?" Kisame asked, eyes never leaving Kakuzu, who had extended his hand to grab his still fleeing partner.

"Fifty ryos on Kakuzu." Deidara said, grinning.

"Same." Sasori replied apathetically.

"You, Itachi?" Itachi didn't answer, his Sharingan analyzing the battle. Hidan had slipped out of his cloak when Kakuzu grabbed onto it. He had decided to quit fleeing, Itachi noted, and slipped into an offensive stance.

"...One hundred on Hidan." Deidara and Kisame gaped at him.

"What? You're going to bet that much?" Kisame asked his partner incredulously. Itachi nodded wordlessly. Kisame turned to look back at the battle, snorting derisively when he saw Hidan go flying after being punched.

"I think your sight's failing you, Tachi." He ignored his partner and watched the battle.

"What did Hidan do anyway, un?" Deidara queried.

"I think he stole some money from him. I dunno; it's definitely money related." Kisame shrugged.

Kakuzu managed to grab Hidan by his throat and began to choke him. The Jashinist was sputtering out apologies and curses.

"Looks like it's almost over." Sasori quipped. "Get ready to pay, Uchiha."

Itachi didn't say a word. Deidara winced when he heard Hidan's neck snap. "Ouch."

Sasori looked at Itachi expectantly and held his hand out. Kisame and Deidara did the same, smirking. Itachi shook his head. "Look."

Puzzled, the tree turned to look back at the battle. Hidan was already up, massaging his neck.
"For Jashin's sake, Kakuzu, that fucking hurt! Seriously, that was really uncomfortable!" He griped.

Kakuzu stood there, silent. He still looked angry. Hidan cracked his neck. "Alright, fine. Since you won't accept my damn apology, old man, I'll beat you until you do!"

Itachi knew Hidan wasn't going to win. Kakuzu had experience and knew how to end battles quickly. He could see the older shinobi losing interest. However, he wasn't about to lose on his bet. He subtly made a few hand signs.
Hidan landed a solid kick on Kakuzu, winding him. He leapt onto Kakuzu's back and placed him in a chokehold.

"Accept my apology, dickhead!" Hidan shouted. Kakuzu grunted uncomfortably, trying to grab Hidan, but for some reason couldn't.

"...Fine." Hidan grinned and released his partner, hopping off his back.

"That's what I thought. Woo, I'm all riled up now, seriously. I'm gonna go pray." He grabbed his discarded cloak and headed toward the base.

Itachi turned expectedly toward Deidara, Sasori, and Kisame. While Sasori's face never changed, Deidara and Kisame openly conveyed their shock before forking over their money. Itachi pocketed it and ended the genjutsu. Sasori scowled, looking at the training ground. Kakuzu wasn't there, but Hidan was, his head detached from his body. He was screaming furiously, cursing his partner.

"Brat. I didn't think you'd stoop so low as to cheat." Sasori huffed.

Itachi blinked indifferently. "I have my eye on something."

Deidara growled, "What, un? You cheated so you could have money to buy something stupid?"

Kisame rolled his eyes. "That's low, man."

"Hn." Itachi didn't need to explain himself. He walked in the direction of the village, his expression content.

He got to the shop and went in, pulling out the money.

"Thirty boxes of pocky, please."
