[A/N] So a reader pointed out that in the last chapter I used the word 'nappies' and yeah, I just thought that I should probably clarify that, as an English person, I may accidentally use English words like nappies, dummies etc. because that's what is natural for me. However, I will try and proof read it all the way through sometime in the near future and change it so that it's more Americanised. Excuse the gigantic wait, but I saw some daddy!klaine pictures and I got into the mood for writing this, so I hope you enjoy!
The next day, Kurt and Blaine both woke up with smiles on their faces. They rushed to get ready, Blaine helping Kurt with the buttons on his shirt and Kurt thanking him with a kiss, that turned into a short make out session before they both realised why they were rushing to get ready and went on to down a cup of coffee each.
The entire trip to the hospital Kurt's leg jiggled impatiently, leaving Blaine to reach out and squeeze it reassuringly every so often. But in barely any time at all they were there and - as soon as Blaine had paid for the parking ticket - they hurried inside to collect their son.
Elijah was waiting for them in the hospital nursery, dressed in a pale blue baby grow and hat, lying on his back and kicking his little legs in the air. As soon as the nurse led Kurt and Blaine up to him, Kurt eagerly swooped the baby into his arms, craning his neck to place a kiss on his pale forehead. Blaine grinned at his husband; every time he did something as adorable as that, he felt himself falling slightly more in love with the man he married.
"Okay, daddies, it looks like everything is completely fine," the nurse told them. "We haven't monitored anything wrong with him, but if there are any problems bring him right back in. Just look out for things like him not being able to keep his bottle down, refusing to drink, problems with his temperature, insomnia, that kind of thing. If you're not sure then we will leave you the name of a doctor who you can call and tell his symptoms to and he will tell you if there's a problem. Do you have any questions?" Both men shook their heads. "Okay, then you can take him home."
"We can take him now?" asked Blaine, almost bouncing with excitement.
"Of course, you'll just need to sign some forms to discharge him and collect a few pieces of paperwork, but then he's all yours," the nurse told them. They looked at one another, mimicking each other's elate expression, before glancing down to the baby, still gurgling away in Kurt's arms.
"He's all ours," Kurt whispered.
The car journey home had been a little more eventful. Blaine had sat in the back so that he could keep an eye on Elijah. He'd fallen asleep on the way to the car and for the first five minutes of the journey he was silent, but once they were on a busier road, his eyes fluttered open, his fingers immediately going to his mouth and a small whimper came from him. Blaine was there immediately, jangling a toy in front of him. He didn't cry, just continued to whimper and moan, obviously confused by the roars of engines that he was so unused to.
When they got home, they got Elijah inside and situated in his new baby chair so that Blaine could make him a bottle and Kurt could find him an outfit to change into once he'd finished. After Anastasia had told his colleagues at work about their new arrival, they'd all chipped in so that she could buy Elijah a whole new wardrobe. Kurt was impressed with the range she'd gotten and had squealed in excitement over the adorable onsies and the bib with 'I Love My Daddy' written on it.
He took his bottle well, Blaine grinning as his son drank eagerly.
"Looks like this one might have an apatite like mine," Blaine chuckled.
"As long as it's not an apatite like Finn's," Kurt replied. He'd situated himself next to his husband, an arm around his waist and leaning into him in order to watch their son. "My dad and Carole should be here in a few hours. They left really early and I get the feeling that neither of them will be wanting to rest on the way. They're both pretty eager to meet Elijah."
"I'm looking forward to seeing them," Blaine said. "And I'm also looking forward to seeing Elijah in the cute outfit you've got planned for him."
"He is going to be the most fashionable baby in all of New York!" Kurt grinned.
It took a couple of attempts to get Elijah into his clothes. Kurt was more used to dressing grown women who didn't kick quite as much and were able to support themselves, but eventually they got there. Once he was dressed, Kurt carried Elijah into the kitchen, holding him carefully as he made his way over to the counter, where he could see Blaine was rifling through the fridge.
"We didn't have much in, but I thought I could whip something up for when your dad and Carole get here," Blaine explained.
"You're the best. I didn't even think about food," Kurt admitted.
Blaine stepped away from the fridge to give Elijah a kiss on the head before giving his husband a kiss on the cheek. "I don't think I'm ever going to get anything done without you two distracting me. I just want to drop it and give him cuddles."
"How about," Kurt started, offering Elijah to Blaine so that he could hold him. Blaine took him eagerly. "How about we just get take out. I know you prefer to cook and we can't make it habit, but I really just want to spend time with our family tonight."
"I like that," Blaine said, leaning into Kurt so that he could hold him. "Our family. It sounds nice."
"Me too," Kurt said, dropping a kiss to Blaine's head. They stayed like that for a few minutes until Kurt's phone started buzzing. He sighed and quickly ran to answer it.
"Hello?"
"Kurt! We're here. I didn't want to ring the doorbell in case the baby was sleeping, but we're outside!" Burt replied.
"I'll come get the door, just a second," Kurt replied, his smile doubling as he hung up. "My dad's here!" Blaine mirrored his grin, before heading into the living room whilst Kurt ran to get the door.
He flung the front door open and immediately rushed into his father's arms, leaving his dad to drop his suitcases in order to return the embrace.
"Dad! It's been so long!" Kurt said. "And Carole!" He let go of his dad to embrace his step mother.
"Jesus, kid, you sure are excited to see us," Burt chuckled.
"Not that we're not happy about that, sweetie," Carole added.
"Of course I am!"
"Can I meet the grandbaby now?" Burt asked enthusiastically. "As much as I'm happy to see you, kid, I'm kind of excited for my first grandchild."
"Yes, come meet him. Blaine has him in the living room," Kurt said. "Just drop your things in the hall we can take them up later."
Kurt took Burt and Carole by their free hands and dragged them into the house, causing them to literally drop their suitcases by the front door. He found Blaine in the living room, smiling down on their little boy. He looked up when he heard them enter, and Kurt held out his hands for the baby. Blaine gave Elijah one last kiss before handing him over to Kurt. Kurt took Elijah to his parents and offered him to his dad.
"Dad, Carole, meet Elijah Hummel-Anderson. Your grandson." Burt took the baby in his arms, cradling him to closer inspect the child. His smile grew as he looked down on Elijah.
"God, he's beautiful," Burt whispered. Elijah looked up at him curiously, blinking his big eyes. "He's so small. I swear you were never this small." Kurt couldn't help but chuckle at that. He placed a hand on his father's arm, causing Burt to look up at him. "He's perfect. Absolutely perfect."
"He's gorgeous, Kurt," Carole added. "He's going to be a little heart breaker when he's older."
"We're going to have to teach him how to be a little gentleman then, won't we," Blaine said.
"I can't believe this is happening. We have a grandson, you guys have a son. I was so unprepared," Burt said.
"Think about how we feel dad," Kurt replied. "Come sit down. You have to be tired from that long journey. I don't want you dropping my kid."
"You underestimate me obviously," Burt said, but sat down.
"We were going to order take out, if that's okay with you guys?" Blaine offered.
"That sounds perfect," Carole replied as she took a seat beside her husband. Blaine pulled Kurt to sit down next to him and they both watched as Burt and Carole cooed over Elijah. Eventually his little eyelids began to droop and he fell asleep against Burt's chest.
Blaine and Kurt smiled as they watched their family; they both knew that things may become difficult, but they'd always have this love and support from their family, and they would get through anything together.
