Chapter 10 – It's Part of the Adventure

Betty giggled when Daniel looked to her and said "I'm really sorry about my friend Betty. He's not always that crazy. Actually, I take that back, but I promise next time, he won't do that"

Betty giggled "I think your friend was really cute, Daniel." She said thinking that he and Allison would have a lot of fun together.

"He is?" he asked almost defeated. Betty smiled "I think you're really cute too, Daniel"

His whole face brightened up "You do?"

She melted from how cute he sounded. "Oh gosh, Daniel, you're really cute!" she exclaimed really finding him so adorable at the moment.

Daniel's face reddened. She didn't think this man could ever blush, let alone because of her. She felt butterflies.

"Betty!" she heard her name being called and looked out the car window to see her dear friend running up calling her again "BETTY!"

"Oh my God, Allison, shoot, Daniel, I completely forgot. We got separated when we were trying to ditch the paparazzi. One second" she quickly got out and Allison looked at her curiously at first, but when she realized who she was in the car with, she grinned so big "Oh my GOD! BETTY!"

"ALLISON!" Betty squealed wanting her to keep a modest tone. Allison bit her lip trying not to scream in excitement. Betty let out a deep breath. "Look, um, god, how can I say this without you freaking out?"

"Oh my god!" she said in anticipation. "Are you going on a date?! You're ditching work! YES! With Daniel Meade! Oh my god, Betty!"

"Allison, shut UP!"

Allison was clapping in excitement "Oh my god, betty! I knew it! I so knew it!" she said in realization.

"what?"

"That you likeeeee him! Oh goodness! You go, girl! Have fun! I'll cover for you!"

"Wait, No! What? Really?" she asked in surprise.

"Hell yes! That's Daniel Meade, Betty!" she told her.

"Ya, so?"

Allison rolled her eyes "are you joking right now? Cause I can't tell! BETTTYYY!" she hugged her jumping around in excitement.

"Allison! Stop it! You're embarrassing meee!" Betty cried trying to push Allison away.

Allison giggled and threw her arms around Betty again "AHH! I can't wait to tell Hilda and Justin! Oh my God, they'll flip!"

Betty really didn't know how she was going to get back in that car. She was sure that Daniel could hear EVERYTHING Allison was saying, and quite LOUDLY. She sighed "I really hate you right now!"

"Oh shut up! I love you!" she let go of Betty letting out a breath as if she was trying to regain composure. When she straightened up she looked at Betty with a grin. Betty could tell that she was trying so hard not to squeal again.

Betty rolled her eyes "We're just having fun." She stated

"uh-huh" Allison nodded with a grin.

"We're simply friends"

"mhm"

"I'm serious!" Betty felt the need to confirm that.

Allison giggled "ok"

"ok" Betty settled. When Betty looked to the car, she saw that Daniel had the shades Becks had worn on and she could tell he was pretending not to be listening. Who was she kidding, he didn't even have to try that hard to listen. Her friend was a freaking speaker!

She sighed "I'm going to kill you, Allison." She muttered, but then looked to her "How am I going to get back in there?!" she whined.

Allison giggled and grabbed Betty's arm walking her back to the car. "Hiyyaa there, Daniel!" Allison said playfully as she leaned in against the car.

"Hi Allison"

"So..."

"So?" he asked

She grinned, but then shot him a wink "have fun"

He smiled, his face reddening. "Thanks"

"Oh, you're absolutely welcome" she said looking to Betty. Betty pushed her friend away from the door and opened it to get in. "I'm going to kill you!" she said as she got in.

Allison giggled "I love youuu!"

Betty glared at her.

Allison blew her a kiss and Betty couldn't help but smile back at her crazy ridiculous but amazing friend.

Allison giggled again "Byeeee Daniel!" she called to him.

"Uh byee" he called back.

Allison laughed when Betty pulled up the window, and shook her head.

Betty looked to Daniel in embarrassment "Oh my God, Daniel, I'm soooooo sorry! Oh god, this is so embarrassing!" she covered her face in her hands. "She's not always this crazy! Oh, who am I kidding, she's crazy!"

Betty's heart jumped in her chest when she felt his hand touch her shoulder and his voice come out so soft as he said "hey"

She melted "hmm"

"Look, how about we both forget the last...uh, what is it? 6 or 7 minutes? You forget what my friend did and said, and I'll forget what your friend did and said."

She peeked through her hands to see him smiling at her. And that was when she melted again. "ok"

"Deal?"

She dropped her hands from her face "deal"

"Great"

She smiled "great! Now, let's start this adventure!"

He nodded with a smile and shifted the car in drive. "We have really crazy friends" is what he said before he drove off. She giggled "we do"

"but they're great, right?" she acknowledged. He shrugged "I suppose"

Betty giggled thinking he was so funny. She couldn't believe that she was ditching work to hang out with her pretend fiancé. She bit her lip at the insanity of it all. How was this happening? All because they hadn't seen one another in so long

She felt her heart race a bit and looked to him. Oh, and he was such a handsome man, so adorable, and fun. She observed him for a moment, but realized that his beautiful eyes were covered "Can you take the shades off?" she asked automatically wanting to kill herself for acting crazy.

He just looked at her oddly "why?"

"Um...Oh God," she groaned placing her face in her hands feeling mortified for being so...swept up.

Daniel grinned finding the beauty sitting in the car with him beyond charming. God, how could he have let her out of his life the first time? He pulled the glasses off and placed them in his shirt pocket.

"I seriously can't believe you're so amazing" he said causing her stomach to flip at how sweet he was. She looked to him biting her lip. He just smiled at her.

Betty's eyes went wide "Oh shoot, I forgot to tell Allison that your friend was her handsome guy. I have to call her really quick!" she took out her phone and called Allison.

"BETTYY!" Allison spoke into the phone so loudly that she knew Daniel could hear. Goodness, was there a way she could turn down the volume to...nothing?!

"Allisonnn!"

Allison just giggled knowing that was Betty's way of telling her to tone it down a bit.

"I forgot to tell you! But you will never believe whose friends with Daniel?!"

"Who?"

"Your handsome guy!" Betty said with a grin, glancing to Daniel who had this smile on his face, obviously because he could hear everything.

"NO WAY! Oh my God! Are you serious, Betty?"

Betty giggled "YES! Isn't that crazy?!"

"Oh geez, Betty, isn't he like super gorgeous?"

Betty bit her lip "He is... um" she glanced to Daniel who looked upset, which made her giggle "He's really charming. He tried to flirt with me though." She said wanting to mess with Daniel.

"He did?" Allison sounded bummed "Yes, but he was only doing that to piss his friend off" she looked to Daniel again who looked at her with a smirk knowing she was messing with him.

"Who? Daniel?"

"Yes, Daniel!" Betty rolled her eyes.

Allison laughed "how was that?"

Betty looked to Daniel "really adorable" Daniel blushed and she really just wanted to hug him from how cute he was.

"Awww, he's perfect Betty! You MARRY HIM!" she said rather loudly making sure that Daniel could hear through the phone. Betty fidgeted nervously, especially when she could see that Daniel was grinning.

"So, uh...thanks for covering for me, Allison! I owe you!" she said trying to change the subject.

Allison laughed "Just get me a date with Daniel's friend."

"Ok"

"EEK! This is so cool! OMG Betty, I'm so jealous of you right now! You have fun, though!"

"I can't believe you're so awesome about me ditching work" she said still surprised that her friend was so willing to cover for her.

"It's not every day that a handsome, rich... sexy, cute, adorable, charming guy says he wants to marry a girl and kidnaps her for the day." She said this part a little quieter, thank goodness, but she was positive Daniel could still hear because his face was reddening. She bit her lip watching him drive thinking he really was all that Allison said. She felt her heart race again. Shoot, was she falling for him? She couldn't be. He was Daniel Meade.

"Bettyyy... hello?"

"huh?" she listened

"I love you, Betty. Go wild! Go crazy! Be with him!"

Betty's eyes went wide "Allison!" she couldn't believe they were having such a conversation with him sitting right next to her in the car.

"Alright, alright, I'm going to be so late to work. Bye Bettyyy" she said with a giggle.

"Bye."

"I love you, Betty"

Betty rolled her eyes, but smiled and said "I love you, too, crazy!"

Allison laughed before screaming "BYE DANIEL!"

Betty let out a deep breath when she got off the phone. Daniel glanced at her, he couldn't help his smile. He really liked Betty's friend and how 'to the point' she was.

Betty bit her lip, and looked to him sheepishly. "This is so embarrassing"

He chuckled "It's fine" he laughed again.

Betty pouted and placed her face in her hands. "I can't show my face ever again!" she said obviously very embarrassed from her friend's comments. He looked at her "If you stop showing your face, the world won't be as bright" he said feeling kind of dorky for admitting that, but when he saw her remove her hands from her face and look at him with a pretty smile, he smiled and looked back to the road.

Betty could not believe this. How was Daniel Meade, probably the most amazing bachelor of New York, 'into' her? Betty! She wasn't some gorgeous international model. She wasn't thin and perfect. She was Betty. Normal, curvy, simple, yet he wanted to spend time with her.

"Thank you, Daniel"

He looked at her "for what?"

She smiled "For...for...for finding me" she said blushing, her heart racing and butterflies fluttering about inside her.

He smiled so sweetly "I'm happy I found you. I missed you"

She looked at him in surprise. He missed her? She smiled "Where are we going?" she asked curiously.

He looked to her with a grin "It's a surprise"

"Oh, you're not going to tell me?" she said with a pout.

"It's part of the adventure"

"but, come on, think of how much more excited I would be if I knew" she said wanting to tease him a bit

He looked at her with a smirk "I'm taking you flying"

"flying? Flying what?"

"A helicopter" he said

"What? Um...are you sure that's a good idea?" she asked nervously.

"You'll have a great time. My buddy and I have done it" he said but leaving out the part where he and Becks nearly 'crashed' into a building. But that was mainly Becks' fault.

"I promise, I'll take care of you"

She looked at him nervously, but smiled and said "It's part of the adventure, right?"

He nodded with a grin "You'll love it."

She nodded, still a little nervous. When she was about to ask him something, his phone rang. She looked at the caller ID and it said mom. She smiled looking to him, as he looked to it. "Oh shoot, I should take this. Sorry Betty."

"It's fine"

Daniel answered the phone "Hey mom"

"Daniel, did you find Betty?"

Betty looked to Daniel in surprise. Had Daniel told his mother about her? "Yes, actually, um, we're together right now"

"Oh, she's there? Let me speak to her!" she said in a happy tone which surprised Betty even further.

"Mom"

"Oh come on, Daniel, let me talk to her!" He sighed and looked at Betty "My mom wants to talk to you"

She shrugged "ok"

He sighed and handed it to her apprehensively.

"Hello... "what's your mom's name?" she asked covering the phone for a moment "Claire"

"Hi Claire"

"Hi Betty, oh it's a pleasure finally talking to you"

"Really?" she asked in surprise.

"Yes, darling, I can't wait to meet you. I've heard so much about you. We should get lunch together" she said in a sweet voice. Betty smiled and nodded "Sure"

"I can't believe my son proposed to you without even getting your phone number" she said causing Betty to giggle, especially when Daniel groaned in mortification. Betty bit her lip and listened to Daniel's mother sound thrilled to talk to her.

"You will have to tell me about your supposed engagement" she said which caused Betty to blush "Ok, we're not really engaged" she felt it necessary to clarify that to his mother.

Claire just laughed "Alright dear, hope to hear from you soon"

"Ok, good bye" Betty hung up and placed Daniel's phone in the cup holder. There was silence for a minute, but then Betty bit her lip and looked to him "Daniel, you told your mother about me?" she asked rather flattered.

He just nodded.

"About our lunch?" she asked unsure since she had seemed to want to know about that.

He shook his head no.

"Then what?" she asked curiously, wondering how Daniel's mother knew about her.

"Uh... it's a long story"

"I've got time." She commented. "Please tell me. She sounded thrilled to talk to me." She bit her lip blushing. "please...think of it as part of the adventure" she said with a giggle. He glanced at her with a smirk.

"I'll go flying with you for sure"

"You weren't going to go before?" he asked

She shook her head "not really, but I will if you tell me about her."

He rolled his eyes letting out a sigh "Fine"

"Yippee!" she really wanted to know about his mother, especially since she seemed so happy to speak to her. She wondered what Daniel had told her for her to like her so much. She felt herself blush as the butterflies continued to flutter inside her.
