Chapter 11

Betty patiently watched Daniel as he continued driving, obviously trying to figure out what he wanted to say to her about his mother.

She smiled thinking he was such a sweet guy. How did her Daniel turn into such a great man?

She bit her lip looking away from him realizing she just thought of him as her Daniel. She was ridiculous. He wasn't her Daniel.

Daniel couldn't hide the smile he felt as he glanced at Betty. Seeing her sitting next to him made him unable to feel anything but happy. He couldn't hide how happy he was to see her again. He felt like his life was made.

He knew he owed her an explanation. And he figured it was way better if he told her than leave it to his mother. Who knew what she would say?

"Betty?"

She looked to him "hm?"

He smiled feeling so lucky to see her smile. "I really did miss you" he said sincerely, but became nervous for being so...open with her.

Betty bit her lip finding him way too sweet for her heart to take. "Daniel, I, I," she stammered, nervous to admit that she had missed him too. She realized how insane that was. How could she miss him? It was crazy! They barely knew each other long enough to miss. And he wasn't exactly the sweetest guy in the world when she met him.

She blushed though when she saw the light in his eyes, "thanks Daniel"

"Sorry, I know that's crazy, but uh," he took a breath looking ahead as he drove , grateful for the distraction. "...that day you left, I told you, I promised myself that I would be a better person to thank you for how, for showing me that I could be better than what everyone thought of me" he glanced at her and saw the awed look in her eyes.

He smiled "I started by rebuilding the relationships I messed up. First, it was my dad. It was difficult. I'll admit, it still is. I just sucked up all the crap that he put me through and decided to prove to him I'm not a screw-up and that I'm better than what he expects. You helped me see that."

Betty listened to him, awe and admiration flooding her. She couldn't believe she had touched him so much. He smiled looking to her with such a charming smile before he looked back to the road which caused a river of butterflies to swim through her.

"The next person I had to fix things with was Amanda. She is one of my best friends, thanks to you." he smiled looking at her.

Betty felt a wave of tears wanting to surface; she couldn't grasp how all that was because of her.

"I apologized to her for using her, and promised that I would make it up to her by being her friend."

He continued "The next person was my mom" he grinned looking to her. She smiled looking at him finding him so enthralling to be around

"Now, she was the toughest to make amends with, only because she meant the most to me. It took a long time, Betty. It took me months just to get the nerve to call her."

Betty watched him speak; he continued "I just didn't want to disappoint her, so I made sure I did my best at work, even though Wilhelmina drives me insane sometimes."

Betty giggled. He smiled taking a glance at her "When I finally got the nerve to go see her I was so happy to finally see her, as soon as I saw her I hugged her."

Betty smiled listening to him sound so sweet.

"She was shocked, I could tell, but she hugged me and then started to tear up. I teased her a bit because she always tried to bottle up her tears and hid them from me."

"She had asked me how I turned into such a great person" he laughed looking to her. She looked to him biting her lip knowing it had to do with her. "I told her everything about you. How we met, how I treated you, how we worked together and you quitting, and I told her how much I wanted to, uh, make you proud of me."

Betty looked at him in surprise finding that so amazing. She looked at him with a sweet smile "I am proud of you, Daniel. You're so amazing. I can't believe that you've become this...perfect man just because I quit working for you" She blushed when she saw a grin come across that handsome face of his.

He looked back to the road, and said "you know, I wished so often that we'd see each other again"

Tears filled her eyes this time at how sincere and sweet he was.

"I can't believe my wish came true"

He picked up her hand, while tears slid down her face from his sincerity. She seriously couldn't grasp that seeing her again was his wish come true. Daniel Meade! The handsome, ever charming and sweet Daniel wished to see her again; Betty Suarez, the dorky girl from Queens who wore glasses and has braces and is just a normal simple girl.

"Are you okay?" he asked seeing her tears. She looked at him and nodded, as more tears escaped "Yes, thank you" her voice cracked with emotion as she spoke. "Can you pull over?" she asked.

He looked at her in surprise, hoping he didn't screw up and tell her too much. Shit, he messed up! He probably freaked her out!

He did as he was told and pulled off to the side and looked at her curiously, worry crossing his eyes.

When Betty opened the door and started to get out Daniel quickly followed "Betty, look, I'm really sorry if I-" he started to say as he came around the car but was cut off by the best hug in the world.

He was momentarily stunned, but smiled and wrapped his arms around her. She cried a little as she hugged him, but then said "No one has ever, I mean, I can't believe that, I just," she sighed feeling annoyed with herself that she didn't know what to thank him for. "you're so amazing" she settled ,still feeling that was not even close to what she wanted to say.

He laughed hugging her more. He felt as if he was hugging the warmth from the sun. She was the one who was amazing. She made a lonely, selfish, bored playboy turn into, what he thought, was a semblance of a better man. He didn't think there was enough he could do to thank her for making his life better.

I hope you enjoy! LOVE YOU ALL! 3
