~*~Two weeks later~*~
Alex awoke to see the ground bridge opening. She turned on her side and regretted it instantly, pain replacing the numbness in her side with a sharp, tingling sensation.
"Ow..." She sat up slowly, rubbing her blurry eyes to clear them. Standing, she looked in a mirror that June had thoughtfully placed in the med bay for her. Alex' elbow had just about healed; all that was left was a small scab. Her shoulder was healing, too, though it was far from sound. The only bandages left were the ones on her shoulder and chest, and she was finally allowed to walk around! It was a small bit of freedom, but she would take anything that glitchallowed her.
Alex looked at the clock. It read 3:30 P.M. She stared at it for a good four seconds, making sure she had read it correctly, her mind racing.
"WHAT!? How could I have slept that long? Stupid medic must have drugged me!" was the first thought that popped into her mind as she stormed from the med bay.
"RATCHET!"
There was a loud clang.
"Frag it! What do you want?!" He cursed, optics glaring daggers at her.
"Oh, nothing, I just wanted to yell your name." She smiled cutely and walked down to the stairs, jumping down the rest.
"Alexa! You are in no condition to be jumping off of things! Do you want to reopen your wounds?"
"Oh shut up, Hatchet. I'm perfectly fine." She stood on tiptoe and bowed with mock grace. "Now I intend to find out what this frozen thingy is!" Alex turned and walked towards the large, ice-block…thingy that Bee and Bulk had returned with.
"So what is it?" she said, curiosity thick in her voice, nudging the block with her foot. "It's big…like, really big."
Arcee frowned at her disapprovingly. "Not sure. Ratchet won't be able to tell what it is 'til it defrosts. Until then, we wait." She glared pointedly at Alex, and added with a stern voice, "And don't break it."
Alex blinked a few times and stared up at the testy femme. "Me? Break it? It's, like, humongous! I couldn't break it even if I tried!" As if to make her point, she nudged it with her foot once more, knocking a small chunk of ice loose. "Whoopsie!" Smiling sheepishly at the blue femme, Alex backed away back towards Ratchet as her shoulder began to throb once more.
Suddenly, the world seemed to spin as Ratchet scooped up the yawning girl. Placing her back in bed, he said, "Now see, what did I tell you? You've gone and worn yourself out!" Alex waved him off as best she could as he injected more painkillers into her arm. Sleep soon overtook her.
"Sweet! I can seriously decorate it how I want?" Alexa stared up at the green bot with an excited grin on her face.
"Umm…I'm not sure what Optimus would think, but I guess it would be okay if-"
"Awesome!" Alex bounced in place as she cut him off.
"Uh, yeah, sure. I'm gonna head back." The large bot slipped out of the room as Alex started planning the layout.
Time seemed to fly as she daydreamed. Slowly, her mind began to wander to her old room.
"Alexa, sweety?" Mom's sing-song voice floated into the living room.
"Coming!" I dashed into the kitchen to find the dark-haired woman holding a large box wrapped in shimmery purple paper. I could feel the excitement and curiosity well up inside me like a water balloon. She smiled and smoothly placed it on the floor, kneeling with arms open. "C'mere, Alex." I ran to hug her, wrapping my tiny arms around her neck as I giggled in delight at seeing her.
"What's in the box?" I couldn't help blurting out.
"Well, that's a surprise, birthday girl." She chuckled a little as she loosened her grip some to look at me.
"Can I open it?" I asked eagerly.
"Hmm...I don't know. Are you sure it's your birthday?"
I nodded eagerly. I was dying to know what was in the box.
"Well, alright, then. Go ahead and open it."
I let out a squeal of excitement as I peeled her arm away and started to unwrap the box. Finally, I pulled away the last of the paper. Underneath lay a purple tote with black swirls covered in glitter. Inside was a large blue and purple polka-dotted blanket.
Squealing again, I wrapped the blanket around my head and shoulders.
"There! Now you have a blanket and toy tote to match your room."
"Thank you!" Excitedly, I wrapped her in a tight hug, giggling happily as she scooped me up.
"You're very welcome, sweet—"
Pain shot up her arm, instantly dragging Alex out of her daydream with a cry. It felt like something was grinding into her flesh. Instinctively she smacked at whatever the hell was on her arm.
Her hand throbbed the second it made contact. Was that...metal?
She whirled around to see what it was, only to find it never hit the ground. Hovering in front of her was a small metal creature with large purple eyes, its open mouth revealing several rows of sharp, rotating teeth. They were caked with blood and flesh from her arm.
It flew at her, its four tiny arms flailing. Reacting on adrenaline, she lunged to the side and picked up a stray piece of pipe. She swung, barely grazing it. As the monster got closer, she darted back and hit from above, knocking it to the ground. Smash, smash, smash. Alex continued to swing the pipe violently, bashing the creature repeatedly until it stopped moving.
Panting, she looked down at her work, her vision rimmed with red. The demonwhatchamacallit lay in pieces both eyes shattered, its head caved in and separated from its body. She shuddered as her eyes landed on its mouth, small bits of flesh stuck in the cracks and blood splattering the inside of its mouth and face.
Alex gulped and slowly turned to inspect her shoulder. The damage was far worse then she expected to find it. She nearly fainted from exhaustion and the sight of blood beginning to pool around her feet.
Steadying herself, she carefully slipped her shirt off, wrapping it around her arm in an attempt to stop the bleeding. It didn't help much, but it would have to do. As she tied the bandage off, her fingers brushed against something metallic. Alex yelped and jumped, thinking that maybe another one of those hellish creatures was trying to eat her arm again, but she didn't see or hear any tell-tale signs that they were present. Gently, she turned her arm to look at it more carefully.
What she saw made her gasp as the floor came rushing up to meet her.
