A/N: Wow, I got a LOT of messages about Naruto knowing the Kirin jutsu. To address one concern that was brought up: no, I didn't just let him have the jutsu because I could, or because I thought it would be "cool". I actually do have a valid reason for wanting Naruto to be able to call down lightning, and that reason will be given in the next chapter.

Also, things are moving away from Prototype canon now, so don't be alarmed if you see things that don't match the game. Naruto has brought changes after all.

As for questions about Konoha and Naruto's old family… wait and see. The answers will come in time.

I don't own Naruto or Prototype. I also don't have a snappy comeback or catch line right now, so move along.

Chapter 7: Whitelight

-The Next Day-

Early that morning, Naruto went over to the headquarters for Blackwatch to find out what their reaction to the previous day's lightshow was. As expected, the base was on high alert and everyone seemed to be freaking out. Luckily however, no one seemed to have decided to cut their losses yet. If Blackwatch had decided to cover their tracks and split now, it would take Naruto forever to be able to hunt them all down.

Satisfied that they haven't entered into full retreat yet, even if they were in panic mode, he backed away from the base and went into the city before contacting Heller. He wanted to reduce the chances that the signal would be singled out and traced to his position by going into areas with high traffic. If he had stayed by the base, there was a good chance that they would have detected a nearby foreign signal and hunted down the source.

Calling Heller, Naruto used the video feature on his phone to have a face to face talk with him.

"Maelstrom. Thanks for the tip yesterday. I managed to get Guerra out and to safety before the hit team showed up. I didn't give them a chance to try again though, so if Mercer wants him dead he'll have to send another group." Heller stated calmly as he answered the call, even though the thought of what might have happened without Naruto's warning caused him to seethe with rage on the inside.

Naruto just gave a small smirk at Heller. "Good to know. Hopefully he'll write it off as a lost cause now since he knows that going after Guerra now will just be a waste of resources." At Heller's nod, he continued, "Speaking of resources, we need to get together to pool ours and exchange intelligence. I got some info about a supposed 'cure' called Whitelight. Mercer's done something to the cure, but Koenig wasn't involved so he didn't know exactly what was going on with that."

Heller frowned at this new information. "Guerra has a contact that's been providing him with information. She may know more about this. We were going to meet with her today at a secure location; maybe you should come along so that we can go over everything together and come up with a plan."

Naruto nodded in agreement. "I'll meet you at the park near where we first met in an hour. You can guide me from there."

"Got it. See you in one."

With that, Naruto hung up the phone and left to prepare himself for the meeting.

-A Few Hours Later-

Heller had guided Naruto to a small store inconspicuously hidden among some other store fronts on the first floor of a sky scraper. There was nothing about the store that screamed 'HIDDEN LAIR!'… which was the point. Even security was minimal, on the off chance that someone decided to investigate. There was nothing that indicated that there were people hiding within creating plans to bring destruction upon both Blackwatch and Mercer.

That's exactly what made it perfect.

Inside were two people, an elder male who was dressed as a priest who Naruto assumed was Guerra and a young woman who must have been his contact. Seeing them, Naruto immediately extended his senses, trying to verify whether or not they belonged to Mercer. When they came back as clean according to his senses, Naruto relaxed only slightly. After all, one or both could still have been working for Blackwatch as an undercover agent.

After Heller closed the door behind him, he introduced Naruto to the two in front of him.

"Maelstrom, this is Father Guerra and his contact. Until now she went by the name of Athena, but she shared her name with us yesterday. Her name is Dana Mercer." At this Naruto's eyes narrowed and focused on Dana with laser sharpness. According to all of the information that he had gained, Blacklight had thought that she was working with her brother Alex during the first outbreak. Why would she be working against him now?

As if reading his thoughts, Heller proceeded to assure Naruto. "She's not working with her brother. I consumed one of Mercer's Evolved, a Sabrina Galloway, and in her memories Mercer ordered Dana's death if found. Apparently, the most he did during the first outbreak was keeping her safe since she was family. Now that she's against him though, he apparently lost any attachment."

Naruto relaxed slightly at this. He was still wary that it might be a trick of some sort, but he decided to give her a chance for now. Even if she was a double agent, as long as he was careful he could get some use out of her and then end her when she betrayed him. For now though, spy or not, she would provide useful intel. She wouldn't blow her cover too soon after all.

Seeing that Naruto wasn't going to attack her, Dana decided to get the ball rolling.

"Right, let's get started then. Alex's been speeding up his plans since he now has you two fighting against him. This has caused a huge increase in data traffic and communications, which let me be a little more daring than normal. Apparently, Blackwatch had moved nearly their entire supply of Whitelight to a facility in the Yellow Zone. They're prepping to deploy it throughout the entire area."

"Here's where they're storing the containers. From what I've heard, the entire supply is there, although it's possible that there may be more elsewhere…" with that, Dana trailed off. "… There's one more thing. Since communications traffic picked up so much that I could penetrate deeper, I found some new information. Heller… Maya's alive."

Heller stilled at this proclamation. Seeing his mental state, Naruto narrowed his eyes and indicated for Dana to continue. If this was some attempt to throw Heller off of his game, then he was going to hurt her… a lot.

Nervously, Dana continued. "I'm not sure exactly how they got her, but apparently she's in the hands of an Agent Griffin. He's in the process now of transferring her to a Dr. Carson… from what little I've been able to pull up he's bad news. I have their location here." With that, she marked the location of the transfer on a map and gave it to Heller.

For his part, Heller just looked dumbly on for a moment, stunned that the daughter he thought he lost was still alive. Seeing this, Naruto snapped him out of his stupor with a pat on the back.

"I'll take care of the Whitelight supply. You just focus on getting your daughter back." He told the large man. At this, Heller's eyes firmed, and he nodded resolutely. NOTHING was going to get between him and his daughter, and he'd fucking rip apart any fool who tried.

After a little more discussion, Naruto and Heller left the building. As Heller was about to leave, Naruto interrupted him and said, "Heller! Good luck getting your daughter back."

Heller gave him a nod in gratitude and stated, "Make sure to kill the fu-, I mean… make sure to kill the guys setting this up, Maelstrom."

Naruto just snorted in amusement. Heller still couldn't bring himself to swear easily in front of someone he saw as a child.

"I will… and by the way, it's Naruto. Naruto Raven." He stated in reply, before leaping away towards his destination.

Heller looked after him, before turning and going off in his own direction. 'Naruto… Raven, huh…' With a curious look back over his shoulder towards the direction Naruto left in, he gave it one last thought before he dismissed the issue from his mind. He'd have plenty of time later to ponder over the matter after he saved his daughter.

-Whitelight Storage Facility-

Naruto landed silently just outside the range of the viral detectors spread throughout the base. Studying the area carefully, he made note of the patrols and defenses in place. The building itself wasn't very tall, only four stories at the most, but it was wide. It gave the impression of being more of a warehouse than a base. He knew however, that there would be serious defenses in place. Not only that, but considering the format of other bases that he had infiltrated it would most likely have multiple sub-levels.

Thinking about the most likely layout, Naruto realized that he needed more information. While they might be storing the anti-virus here, there's nothing preventing them from having sent some to other locations in preparation for use. He also had to make sure that they had no warning that he was coming, so he couldn't set off any alarms this time. If they realized that he was aware of Whitelight, then they might just activate any of the "cure" that they already have setup.

With that in mind, he shifted his form into one of the soldiers that he had already consumed, and jumped from his position outside the base into a hidden alcove just inside the walls. He then walked out, staying away from the detectors, and began hunting for his next victim. Looking around, he casually approached some soldiers that were patrolling by themselves. However, using his senses to check, he found that they were all within sight of another solder.

Waiting wasn't helping much, so Naruto decided to try something a little more risky. Hiding behind a stack of boxes, he created a shadow clone and had it sneak to a stack of weapons that was on the opposite side of the base from the most isolated trio of soldiers. Once the clone was in place, Naruto casually headed over to them, approaching them from behind.

Once the clone saw that Naruto was in place, he knocked over the stack he was hiding behind and quickly dispelled. The noise and commotion drew everyone's attention, and using this Naruto quickly Stealth Consumed one of the group he was near. Waiting for a few more moments to verify that no alarm was raised, he then left the others, giving them assurances that nothing was wrong, and entered the base.

Using the knowledge gained from Consuming the soldier, he then headed directly to the area where the Whitelight was stored. Looking around, he then Stealth Consumed another soldier so that no one would think that it was odd seeing another face hanging around the area.

Wandering around, he wondered just how he was going to destroy the virus without letting them know that he was aware of them. Looking around absently, he noticed that there were several cages in the same part of the facility where the barrels of Whitelight were being kept. Curious, he headed over to them and, checking the view ports, saw that they all contained Spiked Brawlers.

'What idiot had the bright idea to keep them here with the Whitelight virus?' Naruto thought to himself. Still, it did solve his problem nicely, so he wasn't about to complain. Wandering about a little more, he then proceeded to casually approach each container one by one, and used his wind chakra to lightly cut into the sides of each the doors, weakening them.

As if sensing an opportunity, the Spiked Brawlers began throwing themselves at the doorways. The guards became alarmed at the sudden change in behavior, and even more so when they started hearing the tortured squeal of metal slowly giving way. Orders began to fly left and right, as soldiers began to prepare themselves for a fight and scientists began evacuating the area. In the midst of all of the confusion, Naruto was able to Consume the commander for the base, and went to the main control panel for the base.

Soon enough, the doors to the cages gave way, and the Spiked Brawlers began to wreak havoc in the base. They themselves destroyed many containers for Whitelight, while others were damaged by Blackwatch soldiers fighting against them. Naruto waited long enough that his actions could be justified, and then activated the controls that would seal the chamber that the brawlers, virus, and remaining soldiers were in, before the incinerators burned everything in the chamber to ash.

His job finished, Naruto then made his way out of the base, changing into a random soldier as he went to avoid being questioned as to why the incinerators were activated. With the memories of the base commander, he knew all of the locations that had Whitelight containers. As soon as he was out of sight from the base, he changed back and quickly sped off.

He had a few more stops to make that night.

-A Secret Lair-

Mercer glared angrily at the reports before him. One by one, all of the bases that contained Whitelight were having 'accidents' that conveniently destroyed all of the barrels. It wasn't hard to figure out what was happening, even if it took some time to see it. Someone had put two and two together, and was making sure that Whitelight never saw the light of day. The only question was who.

Blackwatch was out. If they had figured out what he was trying to do, they would have simply ordered its destruction. There was no need for this subterfuge. Even if they were worried and had figured out that he had infiltrated them, they would have simply ordered everyone to stand near a detector first, so that they could clear their ranks.

The only real question was if it was Heller… or the boy from two years ago that had popped up again.

While it could have been Heller, it was a little too subtle for him. He was more of the smash and grab type, instead of the quiet lock picking type. Or rather, instead of infiltrating, even if it was the best option, he would most likely break his way into the bases and destroy everything before moving onto the next one.

That's not to say that he couldn't sneak if he had to. He had, in fact, snuck into some bases in the past to gather Intel before proceeding to smash them. It's just that this time, the methods used were much more subtle than what he's used before.

The boy it was then. Mercer grinned sinisterly at the thought. This boy was far more powerful than he would have imagined, with abilities that were beyond anything that he would have imagined. He remembered clearly their first meeting. Back then, he was running away from Blackwatch and Gentek with a sample of the virus. In his panic, he hadn't seen just where he was running and had bumped into the boy. Shoving the vials into his hands, he had then run away, thinking of nothing more than giving something to delay the soldiers while he made his escape.

In the end however, he had gained something that was beyond his wildest dreams. With this power, he would change humanity, forcing them to evolve beyond their current state and bringing peace to the world. No more fighting, no more suffering. Simply unity.

For now however, Mercer had to deal with this problem. Still, he had managed to get his hands on some weapons just for this occasion. With his latest developments, he would make sure that the boy would be permanently out of the game, one way, or another.

That decided, he placed a call to one of his higher placed Evolved. Marking the progress that the boy was making, he could tell which of the bases would be the last on his list to visit. He had his minion order the base to be evacuated, leaving everything behind. He wanted to make sure that there was nothing that could interrupt what he had planned for the blonde. Once everything was ready, he got up and went to the exit.

He had a meeting to catch.

-Final Location Containing Whitelight-

Naruto checked again the perimeter of the base. One by one, he had caused some sort of accident in every base that had destroyed all containers of the Whitelight virus. This base was the last facility on his list, but he was uneasy about it for some reason he was unaware of. His intuition was screaming at him to stay away. This was only further compounded by the fact that the base seemed to have been abandoned recently. Everything screamed at him that the base was a trap, but still… he really had no choice but to continue. He had to make sure that he got rid of all traces of the virus.

Slowly, he approached the base, noting that the detectors were all deactivated. As he approached the door, he was ready to shift into a Blackwatch soldier in order to gain access, but found it unnecessary as the doors opened on their own. Now certain that this was a trap of some sort, Naruto entered cautiously into the base, slowly working his way into the main chamber that contained the Whitelight virus.

Seeing that they were all there, he wasted no time and fired off a Katon: Gokakyu no Jutsu (Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique), burning the containers to ash. As soon as he finished, he heard a slow clapping coming from one of the other entrances to the chamber. From the shadowed doorway, a figure slowly made its way into the room, revealing itself to be Alex Mercer.

"Bravo. And good show there. Congratulations as well for destroying the virus. Even if you don't manage to destroy the facility producing the virus, it will take a while for sufficient quantities to be produced for me to try this again. You've really set my plans back a bit."

Naruto became enraged as soon as he saw the man. Because of him, his chances of finding happiness nearly disappeared. If it wasn't for pure chance, he wouldn't have met the Ravens and had a family that loved him. This-this… THING before him caused the deaths of thousands of people, and here he was, strolling in casually and speaking with him as if he was talking about the weather!

Fuck. That.

Still, before he lost himself to the rage, Naruto forced himself to calm down and control his emotions. Mercer wouldn't have just casually shown himself if he didn't have some sort of trump card available, so he needed to keep his head clear. Still, he didn't feel like taking part in any banter, so instead of saying anything, he shifted both his arms into his Claws.

"What? No pre-fight banter? Humph, fine then. But you're mistaken about your opponent. I'm not going to fight you… they are." And with that, glass shattered from overhead. Three infected dropped down, each unusual in its own way.

The largest one looked like some sort of hunchback, with a bulge on its back that was nearly the size of the rest of it. While the left arm looked more or less normal, considering the size of it, the right arm was enormous. Not only that, but extending from underneath the forearm was a large hollow tube. The legs were undersized however, making one wonder just how the monster got around.

The next one was the smallest of the trio, but was still larger than him. It had a slender build, and thin, pixy-like arms that seemed fragile. The head was elongated backwards, giving the impression of being streamlined. The legs however were bulging, seemingly rippling with muscle.

The final one was decidedly feminine in appearance. At first glance, nothing really stood out on this infected, other than the obvious shapely curves. But on closer inspection, the neck on this one was highly corded and extremely thick compared to a normal human.

'These infected must be Mercer's trump card.' Naruto thought to himself. Taking on a more cautious approach, he shifted his left arm into his Shield, and started channeling earth chakra into it.

With a smirk on his face, Mercer turned his back on Naruto and started walking out. "Have fun playing with my latest creations. No matter what, you won't be bothering me again after this."

Naruto just growled in his direction, before turning his attention back to the new arrivals. Deciding to kick things off, he dashed forwards, only to be shocked as the smallest infected suddenly appeared before him. Utilizing its amazing leg strength, it then swept its right leg forward, smashing it into Naruto's Shield arm. Unprepared for the power behind the strike, the impact sent Naruto flying backwards.

Flipping backwards in midair, Naruto righted himself and landed in his feet. 'Holy shit! If I wasn't channeling earth chakra through the shield, that kick would have smashed right through it!' Taking things more seriously now, he glared at the newly christened Sprinter. Before he could do anything however, he suddenly felt some things impact against his Shield, forcing him back until he sent chakra to his feet to hold him in place. Looking around, he saw that the big one was pointing his arm at him, and firing hardened biomass at him from the tube.

'OK, so now we have a Gunner on our hands.' With that thought, he stopped sending chakra to his feet and sent it to his legs instead. Jumping quickly, he swiftly evaded the line of fire, and dashed to the Sprinter. While it was fast, far faster than any other enemy he had ever faced, he was still far faster thanks to chakra. Still, as fast as he was, he wasn't faster than sound, which is what the feminine infected attacked him with.

Before he reached his target, the last infected projected a sonic scream in his direction. While the damage caused by the attack wasn't great, even though it completely bypassed his defenses, it did leave him disoriented. This in turn left him open to the Sprinter's attack, which it capitalized on by sending a roundhouse kick to his face. His neck snapped under the blow, and he was sent flying backwards.

Quickly healing from the damage caused by the attacks, Naruto took advantage of the momentary lull in action to assess his situation. The Sprinter was apparently the close-up specialist, while the Gunner was the ranged attack. The Singer on the other hand, was a ranged attack/support hybrid. While individually they were not too difficult for him to handle, combined they posed a formidable challenge.

Still, he had an ultimate trump card that he was holding back if needed, so it wasn't as if he was too worried. He just needed to see if he could defeat them without using it first. After all, to this day he still felt guilty about how he got it, so he was going to use it as sparingly as possible.

Deciding that he had to change tactics, Naruto switched his Claws out for Tendrils. Keeping his Shield up in the direction of the Gunner, he quickly dashed off towards the Sprinter. This time however, he kept an eye out for the Singer. So when she unleashed another sonic blast at him, he was prepared and made sure to get out of the way before she could even fire off the attack.

Closing in on the Sprinter, he grabbed it with his Tendrils, absently noting that it was a she in the process, and threw her at the Singer. The Sprinter slammed into her and the two went down under the impact. He then dashed off towards the Gunner and shield bashed him into the far wall. Taking a closer look, he noticed that the hump on his back was noticeably smaller. 'That must be where he stores biomass for his launcher.' Naruto thought to himself.

He was about to continue with the fight when some of the other doors into the chamber opened. In came a swarm of Spiked Brawlers. Annoyed with the interruption, he switched out his right arm for his Whipfist. Charging it with water chakra, he swung it around himself, slamming it into the horde and killing most while knocking the rest backwards.

Looking around, he saw that the sprinter and Singer had recomposed themselves. The Gunner, on the other hand, was bent over the corpse of one of the Brawlers and was devouring it. Disgusted at the sight, he noticed that the hump was refilling itself as the big infested ate.

Realizing that he was 'reloading', Naruto quickly decided to put an end to that and, swapping both arms to Tendrils, shot out lines of biomass and grabbed every corpse in the room. He then pulled them all inwards, Consuming them to prevent giving the Gunner a source of ammunition. He then charged the Tendrils with lightning chakra, and shot them outwards again, piercing and killing the remaining Spike Brawlers before dragging them inwards and Consuming them as well.

Finished with that, he then shot another attack at the Sprinter and Singer, while dodging biomass from the Gunner. The Sprinter dashed out of the way, as he expected she would, but the Singer was too slow and her legs were seized. Seeing as she was captured, she then tried to fire a sonic attack at Naruto, only for him to pull her legs out from under her, causing the blast to fire upwards and hit the ceiling.

That done, he swung the woman and threw her at the single male of the group, causing a repeat of earlier. Switching his left arm to Hammerfist, he then sprinted to the slender infected and bashed her midsection, causing her to fly into the pile as well. Charging his Tendrils with lighting chakra once more, he launched them forwards and pierced the trio, mortally wounding them. Ending the fight, he dragged them inwards and Consumed them.

That's when it happened.

As soon as he finished Consuming them, Naruto fell to his knees, suddenly feeling sick.

"Dad… I don't think that we're going to make it…"

He clamped a hand over his mouth, trying not to void his stomach.

"… I don't think so either… I think we should each leave him a message, just in case."

His struggle proved useless, as in the next moment he was vomiting heavily.

"Yes. We should each make sure we let him know how much we love him, and how it isn't his fault."

"No…" he whispered to himself. "Please God, no…"

"Gather round, we'll each take turns… I guess as his father I'll go first."

"No… NO… NO!" he cried out, desperate in his hope that he was wrong.

"First of all, it's not your fault that we died. Know that no matter what, I… WE… love you, Naruto."

"NOOOOOOO!" he screamed in denial, pure anguish filling his voice, as if it would change the past. Because now… now he knew. The three he had been fighting… the three that had given him so much trouble… the three he had just unwittingly killed… they were his loved ones.

His family.

A/N: Yeah. So… should I start dodging now? I admit, having him unknowingly kill off his family was a bitch move. It was also one that I was planning ever since the start of the story. Now he has no reason to stay in the US, and soon he'll have a reason to go back to the EN.

If you're confused about the ending, he was reliving the last moments of their lives. He gained their memories after he Consumed them. In case you say that since they were infected, they should have no memories, there is no evidence pointing to that. Yes, normal infected don't provide memories in the games, but neither do civilians or most soldiers. Since that was the case, I just put it down to the main character actually receiving the memories, but since they have no bearing on the storyline the player isn't shown them.

This was supposed to happen in the next chapter, but I REALLY want to get to the next arc, so the next chapter is going to be the end of this one.

Again, please review and let me know what you guys think!
