Okay, new chapter, again I have no idea how the hell I'm getting all these chapter updated... but I'm doing it and still passing all me classes! Now enjoy this progress chapter, I know exciting right?!
There was a soft hand on my shoulder, shaking me out of my really nice sleep, okay?! I barely opened my eyes to see the perfect features and blonde hair whipping my face.
"Uh, dammit." I whispered, mostly to myself, but Legolas was welcomed to listen to my troubles.
"I am willing to do your shift as well my lady." Legolas inquired, "I wouldn't mind." Oh that would be the best ever!
"No, I'll do my shift, you need your sleep." I lifted, tripping and shuffling my way over to the door, but Legolas followed.
"I am an elf, elves need little food, water, and sleep in order to keep up the energy." Fucking elves!
"Elves are perfect, what the hell!" I plopped down next to the door, knife ready in hand. Legolas didn't leave though, instead he sat next to me, lanky legs extended towards me and bow in hand.
"Well no race is perfect," Legolas confessed, "we may live forever, but it can be a curse."
I don't give a shit, you live forever. I didn't bother to reply, just kept my tired eyes opened and fought through the sting. Legolas didn't move either, only sit with my and keep me awake.
"You know, talking will power your mind and keep you awake." His voice was silky smooth and nearly lolled me back to sleep.
Finally through my non functioning mind, I asked him. "What's your home like?" His eyes brightened at the question, fully ready to answer.
"It's beautiful," he sighed, "trees that loom over the ground, in the spring they will form such beautiful flowers that cover the road in all different colors. It's peaceful, lively, and not full of the undead." I laughed at the last part, holding it in so I wouldn't wake the others. His smile helped too, all bright and happy.
"What about yours?" He asked now. "How was it before… this."
I heard a zombie bump against the door, the gurgling making me quiet for a second before whispering. "Well, it was different. More… alive people, more activities, less responsibility. I mean, I just had to focus on school and getting good grades, and that was stressful enough; now I have to worry about whether I'll get bitten, my friends, Luna, now you all. I don't know, I just wish that would all be over you know? That I'll blink and wake up in my bed, my alarm blasting at 6:00am for school, getting up and greeting my mom, cats, dogs… my dad." Oh don't you fucking cry now you asshole!
Legolas understood, he didn't ask for me to continue, instead he actually offered. "Well, if we find a way back to my world, you all are welcome to join us." Aw thanks man.
We kept talking, letting the night pass as we would kill some zombies once in a while.
I saw the dim orange light hit the back wall, and figures it was time to start waking everybody up. I lifted, I saw Legolas hurry to wake Aragorn and some of the others up, but not Gimli… kinda cold. I turned on the CD and searched the songs, picking one by They Might be Giants it was quiet at first.
I'm your only friend
I'm not your only friend
But I'm a little glowing friend
But really I'm not actually your friend
But I am
The music blasted, and for once Luna woke up and sang among, as did Kai. Everyone else groaned and heaved up, Gimli being the last one before I shut it off. Breakfast was usual, Kai was especially grumpy, but they was just because of the cramps. I drove, Luna gave me a soda to keep me awake, and let me play my music a little louder too. I drove, they talked and looked at maps about where we were. Though as I glanced down at the finished song, I saw that it was number 34, and song 35 is basically our anthem.
"Guys! 35 is coming on!" They all stopped immediately to see, and soon ebough the letters changed and we all sang our hearts desire.
Well, I was workin' on my farm 'bout 1982
Pullin' up some corn and a little carrot too
We all sang perfectly to the lyrics, bouncing around as the others stared oddly. Finally the chorus came, and I clipped a zombie.
BALES OF COCAIN FALLIN' FROM LOW-LAYIN' PLAIN!
We were jumping, yelling, laughing, the whole nine yards. The fellowship was laughing too for once, watching us bounce around like children. Gimli however didn't really appreciate the jumping, yelling, and laughing because he started to grumble angrily again. Soon I heard a thump, and heavy steps marching my way. He slammed his hand on the console system, managing to hit the right button and the CD popping out. He went to grab it, but I beat him to it when I blood was boiled throughout my body. I managed to push him away, my foot slamming on the breaks so the car stopped. We went to the ground, wrestling over the CD that wasn't even in any of our hands. His small body was hard to pin down, and his strength was greater than mine, but he could never get a good grip on me. I went for my hip, feeling the hilt of the knife I unsheathed it and pressed it against the chubby neck. My eyes were burning with hatred and throat sore from screaming. Everyone was still, the dwarf staring at me with a mix of hatred and fear in the brown eyes, hands clutched on my shoulders.
"That's enough!" Gandalf deep voice shook the whole RV, going to surely get the attention of some zombies. Suddenly there were arms around me, carefully taking the knife away and lifting me. Aragorn then went to help Gimli, but the dwarf swatted his hand away. The hands around me was a mixture of small, pale with perfect nail and large, tan with perfect nail... Luna and Mark. I didn't speak to them though, only turned and went back to the driver seat, their voices small and faded. Gimli was saying something too, but I only heard ruff mumbling as I picked up the CD, cleaning it and pushing it in the player.
My mind finally cleared when we were back on the road, music in my ears, and I was able to hear the dwarf's complaints. "What's her deal with those damn songs anyway?!"
Luna answered, "look, we don't care if you hate every song on there, trust me, I hate plenty of them. But you have to let her listen to them."
"Why!" Gimli's growing irritated, I can feel it.
"Because that is one of the last things she has of her dad." They tried to keep their voices down, but I could still hear them. "That CD, knife, jacket, boots, those are all her dads and we saw his car crashed in the road on the way out of town." I felt their eyes on me, pity, sympathetic eyes covering me. Fuck them, they might have lost people, went to their funeral and said their goodbyes, at least my friends took the liberty of stabbing him in the head so he wouldn't turn.
"Hey guys!" I call out, grabbing their attention. "There's a city coming up, going through will be dangerous, but might be quicker than going the whole way around." They lifted, coming up where they saw the exit sign for the city, I slowed down so they could decide.
"It would be dangerous, a city this far north..." Ari suggested.
"We could find help though," Gandalf put in. "Help, supplies-"
"We have enough supplies," Luna rejected.
"Gandalf's right," Aragorn now said. "If we find help, even lore about... our world, it could point us back home." Yeah but get this... zombies covering the streets and unable to move.
"I say we go around," I shook my head, something about this town doesn't seem right... the cars are set up almost like a barricade.
Some people were starting to side with the Fellowship though, giving pros and cons to entering the city.
"So we're at an agreement," Kai stopped. "We enter the city, and get the hell out at the first sight of iffiness." There were murmurs of agreement, but I still don't like it!
"I don't know... I mean, this city seems too... deserted you know?" I looked around, but they didn't care, oh if we get in trouble I'm blaming you! I started the engine again, weaving through the cars and down the exit ramp.
Upon entering the city I knew something wasn't right, no zombies, traps everywhere... woohoo! Zombies! Come and get us! No one not a damn thing, but I found the library rather quickly, could be worth looking into actually...
I parked the truck, stopping and lifted to give the order. "Okay we'll start with the library I need a crew of: Luna, Kai, and Ari. Mark, Legolas, I need you two as lookouts for the RV, Aragorn and Gandalf I need you two as well." They nodded, organizing their equipment, but Gimli stepped forward.
"And what of me?" There was silence at his question, people giving me cautious glances.
"Well I need someone to look after Dwi and the Hobbits."
"Boromir is capable of looking after the lads and lass." He scrunched a noise, the grip on his axe tightening.
Aragorn placed a hand on the plated shoulder, saying. "Gimli, stay. We need people looking after the RV." He gave the dwarf a stern nodd, and Gimli luckily returned it or we would have some hell going on. When everyone was ready we leaped out, crouching and rushing to the door of the large red building. We entered, weapons ready for slashing, but there wasn't any zombies in sight!
"Go in pairs, search the area and clear it out." I whispered, separating and going our ways. Luna was with me, her clean steel pipe in her pale hands secured. We rounded several corners, shining lights down the hallways, books scattering the floor.
"No one." Kai shouted, okay well we can't just be shouting like a fucking mountain man! Everyone else stood, making our way to the center, weapons still in hand and on alert.
I sighed, looking around and gave the order. "Okay, keep in pairs and start digging around the library, we're looking for anything with..." I gave a look to Gandalf for him to take over, and he did.
"A land called Middle-earth, or Valinor." His voice was smoky, old and tired, you and me both bud.
"Okay lets get to it." We broke, splitting off, some upstairs and some downstairs. Everyone began to search, picking up books, skimming through and throwing it to the side. Luna was the main one looking, I was on lookout, searching the library to see if there was anything else besides books. There wasn't much other than books, which made it really boring, and nervous. We kept at this for a while, I'd find some books once in a while, but nothing. I was half tempted to call it quits, get everyone out and leave the city before something bad could happen, but right when I think that, Kai calls out. "Guys! I found something!" We all rushed down, finding them in the biography section. "Apparently there's this author called J.R.R. Tolkien, he wrote a book called The Hobbit, and a book called The Lord of the Rings."
She let Gandalf look at it, murmuring and grazing over the pages with his mudded hands.
This was the first time I think I've ever seen him genuinely smile. "This is certainly something, but though he is not living, it says that he has a home in... Maryland?"
Oh hell no. Do you know what Maryland has? Cities, lots of cities in a small little state surrounded by more cities!
"It could be something." Luna was smiling now, giving me a hopeful glance, but I couldn't give back the same smile.
Instead I snatched the book, stuffing it in my bag and turning. "Alright, we got something, now lets get the hell outta here!" They nodded, kneeling and sneaking our way out.
We all blinked at the sunlight, fighting through it and opening the door to the RV, but still no sign of any sort of life or undead. The others stood at our entrance, faces bright with hope.
"Well?" Pippin spoke first, glancing at Gandalf who smiled.
"We found something. Yes, definitely something." Yeah but are we not gonna talk about where it's at!
"Supposedly there's an author who wrote your guys' history, his home is over in Maryland." I explained the situation, putting the bag my the driver seat and climbing in, turning on the car.
"Great, lets go!" Lilly leaped to the driver seat, excited to go.
"Well, can we get out of this city first?" I glanced up to her, her face all bright with her dumb smile. She nodded, going back to her conversation with Sam about food. I backed out, going down the road and past the deserted city. The others were mumbling quietly, asking about where Maryland was and if they think it was a real deal. It doesn't matter, because I am not risking everyone on a limb to this old dudes house where there might be something about their land. I kept driving, on the look out for any movement, literally anything at all besides our car, but there was nothing! We went for a railroad crossing, zooming across the tracks when I heard a giant pop, and the truck dropped.
"Dammit!" I shouted, turning off the car. "Our tires popped." The others stood, ready to take a look.
Luna went wide eyed, and charged towards me screaming. "GET DOWN!" She didn't reach me in time, there was a crash, glass shattering and excruciating pain before I went limp.
Oh man a cliffhanger! Well no really, I think you can put two and two together... or not. Please feel free to leave a review, it's always good to see them!
