Kakashi had gone through his favorite scene about three times by the time Kenta began to stir. The boy moaned a bit and began shifting about in the bed. Ever the concerned sensei, Kakashi reluctantly put away his book and leaned closer to the awakening boy.

Kenta's eyelashes fluttered, and he let out a choked cough. "Water," he croaked out, and Kakashi slowly got up to fetch him a glass. Kenta gulped it down all at once, and though he begged for more, Kakashi told him to take it easy.

Kakashi informed a nurse, and the doctor came in, hurriedly asking Kenta how he was feeling, questions that Kenta didn't understand flying off his tongue. The poor kid was confused, and Kakashi sighed at the doctor's bad bedside manners.

"Doctor, I think what Kenta needs right now is just fluids and rest, to be honest. The poison's out of his system, but he just needs to regain his strength." The doctor sighed wearily and began to chastise Kakashi, saying they could never be too careful. Kakashi began to drone off to sleep while the doctor rambled on. Kenji looked to him warily, trying to understand what was going on and what the doctor was saying. Eventually, the doctor sighed and gave up, telling the nurses to keep an eye on the boy.

Kenji tried to speak, but it all came out in jumbles. "Shh," Kakashi attempted to say soothingly. "Don't waste your energy and get some rest. I'll need to send you back to the academy if you can't deal with this."

"S-sensei," Kenta mumbled weakly. He grabbed Kakashi's sleeve weekly.

Kakashi closed his books and gave him his full attention. "Hmm?"

The boy's pale cheeks became tainted with pink. "Is…is Chiharu okay?" After Kakashi narrowed his eyes at him Kenta hastily added, "A-and Kai, of course."

The old ninja chuckled. "Yes, Chiharu's fine. She's more worried about you right now." He paused. "And Kai is fine of course, but we both knew that." Kakashi let out a weary breath. "Out of the three of you, he is the most capable." Kenta pouted, but he did not disagree with his sensei on that one.

Hawk wasn't the most attentive guard, but she didn't really need to be. Obito was hardly a threat in his condition, and he didn't seem to be trying to get out at all as of late…

Hawk sweated nervously as she heard Obito muttering wildly underneath his breath. "Obito, are you all right?" They had gotten to call each other on a "first name" basis (Obito instead of Uchiha-san and Hawk instead of ANBU filth).

"Why are you so anxious?" she asked him, cocking her head to the side.

"It's none of your business, Hawk!" Obito spat out, not sparing her a glance. She shrugged her shoulders, deciding not to pry further into his "personal" matters.

After minutes of silence, Obito finally spoke, his tone irritated and on edge. "He hasn't come!" He kicked the bars of his cell. "Two days he hasn't come. I knew he was a lying bastard."

Hawk decided to say nothing. She knew for a fact that Kakashi would be coming today, but she kept that little snippet of information to herself. Obito was finally opening up to her, something she had missed.

"Well, Kakashi does have his own life, you know," she said, playing devil's advocate. Truth be told, she was a little angry herself that Kakashi hadn't shown up, but he could not focus all his attention on Obito. He did have his own life: a new team of genin to nurture and care for, dogs that needed to be fed sometimes…

Obito snorted. "Him? Please, he's lazy as ever. I know him, he probably still-" Obito abruptly stopped speaking and sat in the middle of his cell. "I need to stop talking to you."

Hawk sighed. This was not going to be easy.

The guards gave Kakashi a strange look when he came at midnight. However, they still let him in to the prison. It was brighter than he remembered, which was weird considering he had only been gone a couple of days.

Expecting complete silence, he was instead greeted by Hawk chatting with Obito like they were girlfriends, although Obito wasn't exactly reciprocating the same way. He was still docile and civil, though, which made Kakashi a bit ticked. He huffed. He had promised he'd come every day, so here he was.

"Hey, Hawk," he said cheerfully, eyes softening at her. She waved at him.

"I'll give you two some privacy."

Kakashi pulled up a stool up to the cell bars. "Hey, how's it been going?" Obito was silent, his back facing Kakashi. Kakashi groaned and rubbed his face, his head falling into his hands. "How much longer are you going to do this to me?" Obito peeked at him over his shoulder, and it did not go unnoticed by Kakashi. He raised an eyebrow at Obito. This silence was different than normal, it seemed much more annoyed instead of angry. "What's wrong, Obito? You can tell me."

Obito laughed. "Like you care."

Kakashi whispered, "I do."

Obito finally looked back to his "friend." He shook his head. His lips were twisted. "You didn't come."

Kakashi had to hold back his laughter when he saw Obito's face. "Obito, are you pouting?"

The man flushed red, and although to others he may have looked angry, this was the look Kakashi recognized as the embarrassed look. "You're pouting." Kakashi chuckled. He scratched the back of his neck. "One of my students was poisoned on a mission. We had to return to the village."

Obito looked shocked. "You really left the mission to protect your student?" He paused. "You've really changed."

Kakashi looked away. "You taught me a lot, Obito."

Obito realized for the first time ever that he did not know the man who was sitting in front of him.
