Disclaimer: Oh for Nayru's sake, you know the drill. The song is Father and Son by Cat Stevens

I know, I have to go away.

The old Hero leaned in the doorway, casting a sad smile to his wife and son. He was growing up to be a fine lad, with the trusting nature of his mother, but also her stubborness. He inherited most of her looks, right down to his fluffy brown hair, but she always said he had his fathers eyes. Link realized, with another saddened smile, he'd never get to see his boy grow up.

"It's not time to make to make a change, relax, take it still young, thats your fault, Theres so much you have to know. Find a girl, settle down. If you want, you can marry. Look at me, I am old, but Im happy. I was once like you are now, and I know that it's not easy, to be calm when you've found something going on" He whispered to the child.

The truth was that there were still those out there who lusted after the Hero's blood after so many years. He didn't want to put his family in danger.

"But take your time, think a lot, why, think of everything you've got. For you'll still be here tomorrow but your dreams may not." He sighed, brushing a blonde bang, now tinged with grey, behind his pointed ears.
"How can I try to explain, when I do he turns away again. Its always been the same, same old story. From the moment I could talk, I was ordered to listen. Now there's a way, and I know, I have to go away"

He sighed deeply again. It was for the best, he knew, if he left. He was putting everyone in danger because of age-old feuds.

"I know I have to go"

He hadn't told them at first, his plans, but his son was clever and sharp like his mother, and he worked it out.

"Its not time to make a change. Just sit down, take it slowly. You're still young, thats your fault, there's so much you have to go through. Find a girl, settle down, if you want you can marry. Look at me, I am old, but i'm happy." He turned away from the door, picking up the Master Sword. "All the times that I cried, keeping all the things I knew inside, it's hard, but it's harder to ignore it. If they were right, i'd agree, but it's them you know, not me. Now there's a way, and I know, I have to go away"

The Hero of Time picked up his shield too, and his old things. His hand rested on the doorhandle. It was for the best, he told himself. If he stayed, the remnants of Ganondorf's rule would surely find out where he was living, and kill his family. They shouldn't have to suffer for his mistakes.

He pulled open the door, and left the house, not looking back at the wife and child he was leaving behind.

"I know I have to go."
