As expected after he said that, Sam saw the panic in her eyes.
"No." She said. "Get off me." She push him off of her, got up and quickly started putting on her pajamas. "I knew it." "I knew if we kept doing this that you would…" She wiped away a tear and sniffled. She went out into the living room. Sam put on his boxers and followed her.
"That I would what?"
"Say that you love me."
"I do."
"Don't say that."
"Mackenzie stop." He turned her around to face him. "I love you."
"Sam please don't do this to me." She said with tears coming down her cheeks.
"I was gonna say the same thing to you." "I want to be together." "I know you do to." "That's why you're reacting this way." "You're pushing me away."
"We're great as friends Sam, as a couple we just don't work." "We've tried it, it doesn't work." "The sex is great, I'll give you that, but that doesn't mean we should be together."
"Every time we have sex, I know you feel what I feel."
"What's that?"
"A deep emotional connection, love." He said coming closer to her.
"What makes you think I still love you?"
He put his hands on her stomach. "Her." "She was made from our love." "We can try again baby." He said drifting closer to her lips. "We can make it work this time." They both shut their eyes. He leaned in to kiss her but she pulled back.
"I have to go."
"Don't go, please." "Let's go back to bed."
"I can't." She backed away from him.
"Mackenzie."
"We can't see each other like this anymore."
"No."
"Doctor's appointments and stuff, that's fine, but not like this." She left.
"Damn it." Sam said. He'd fully expected this reaction but it still hurt badly.
Mackenzie went back to her room laid on her bed and cried.
"Why did he have to say that?" She thought. "Everything was fine." "Why can't we just be friends?" "I can't lose him if all we are is friends."
