Day 4: Goht

Me: This next boss really…gets my Goht!

(Dead silence, not even Lyra is reacting to my pun)

Me: What, no snide remarks this time?

Lyra: You're saying the boss' name like it's pronounced 'goat,' but I'm pretty sure it's pronounced like, 'got.' I'm just here to point out how wrong your pronunciation is.

Me: Well who cares how this damn thing is pronounced, I love this boss!

So, yeah, we're going to use today to talk about the battle against Goht from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.

Like I said in yesterday's segment, the fight against Goht is another chase boss battle, as once you free him from his icy prison, he'll start running around the arena in a rampage, and it's up to Link to pacify the beast so he can put an end to the endless winter placed upon the Snowhead Mountains and the Goron Village.

But for a big masked mechanical monster, Goht is surprisingly very agile. That's where your Goron Mask comes in. Put it on, turn into Goron Link, and chase after Goht like the Spin Dashing Blue Hedgehog you wish you were.

Now here's where the fight gets interesting. As you chase Goht down, he'll be kicking up boulders for you to dodge, shoot balls of light at you, and as the fight winds down he'll even throw bombs at you.

Furthermore, due to Goht's rampaging, stalactites will fall from the ceiling and they'll slow you down if you run into them.

Further-furthermore, if Goht gets too far ahead of Link, he'll stop and shoot at him with bolts of lightning. These bolts of lighting can be very hard to dodge, so keep your guard up and prepare to dodge on a dime.

Your goal in this fight is, while you're in spike ball mode while rolling, to simply run into Goht and do damage. However, you'll get the best results if you jump off one of the ramps in the arena and hit him that way. This'll cause Goht to collapse, giving you ample time to beat the hell out of him. This won't last long however, as Goht will get up soon after and the chase will start up again.

After taking enough damage, Goht will malfunction and crash into a wall where he'll be crushed by boulders, ending the fight.

I also can't end this segment without talking about the 3DS of this fight, and honestly…it's not really that different from the N64 version. Other than Majora herself, Goht's battle really doesn't change. You still run into him to do damage and you still jump off a ramp to hit him to make him collapse. The only difference is that you have a weak point on his back to shoot arrows at. That's a little less fun when compared to beating Goht down with a pair of rugged Goron fists if you ask me, but I'm sure the 3DS version of the fight has its fans somewhere.

And besides, as long as the chase segments in the two versions stay fun and exhilarating, who am I to complain?

Overall the battle with Goht is just pure, unadulterated fun from start to finish, and there's just something so satisfying about knocking the boss to the ground and utterly mollywhopping him!

Me: Well, that wraps up this segment. Hey, Lyra, you down for some Goht milk? We can have some after I do a round of Goht yoga!

Lyra: (Through gritted teeth) You're pronouncing it wrong!

Me: Ah, Potayto-Potahto, Tomayto-Tomahto. Stop trying to 'Play the Goht!'

Lyra: GRAH! (Tackles me to the ground and beats me up as the segment comes to an end)
