Chapter 29: Second Ring
"Nawaki, your birthday is approaching and not only that, it's not long before you graduate from the ninja academy, yes? So, I'm thinking of taking you on a mission with me, what do you think about that?" Though Tsunade says it's a mission, she knew what he was doing with his shadow clones.
The fact that he was doing so many things at the same time using shadow clones was well known to her, and at first despite being worried, she calmed down over time after understanding his abilities well.
And the real reason for the invitation to go on a mission was just her disguising the truth that she wanted to spend more time alone with him. Other than being away, they don't have to do things in secret.
Tsunade already knew that Granny Mito was already suspicious of things in the hunting dimension. That even Nawaki knew.
On the bright side, Granny Mito didn't try to get them to say what they were hiding or even try to keep an eye on them on purpose. Her confidence was welcome, but still, she felt watched and wanted to do things more openly.
Her motive was also to test Nawaki's real power.
She grew up to be strong enough that she couldn't even use full power while training.
If she's not wrong, Nawaki's power already surpasses most jonin. Only a few special jonin she could think of would cause any challenge to Nawaki.
Nawaki already had something he needed to talk to his Sis, this was also a good opportunity: "Yes, I want to do this with you." He smiled.
"Right." In her usual witty voice, she smiled and said, "We'll leave in the morning. We are not going to spend the night meditating this time."
"Mmm, okay." Nawaki agreed.
But, he couldn't do it without entering the hunting dimension. After all, if he went to sleep, he would go in there automatically. The only times it didn't happen was when he was circling the energy for two days straight while making a discovery. Soon he discovered that if he spent time meditating, he would not enter the hunting dimension.
Other than that, whenever he went to sleep, he would end up inside the hunting dimension.
Alone in his room, Nawaki lies down on the bed.
He wanted to enter the hunting dimension as usual.
However, this time, Nawaki was shocked.
When he opened his eyes, he found that he was not in the realm of hunting. He was in some dark and unfamiliar space.
There were two fist-sized rings of light floating before him. There were scenes in each ring, it was very similar to looking through a round window.
The scene on the first ring was all too familiar. Nawaki saw those cute white rabbits and green wolves.
The other ring had some living beings as well. Nawaki had only seen one type. It was the black-scaled leopards he encountered when he ran out of the white rabbits' area.
Nawaki looked at the two rings in surprise.
Did that mean he could choose where to enter the hunting dimension?
Was the hunting dimension evolving?
Or was it something else?
What was this hunting dimension?
Nawaki thought about how he killed that lion last night.
That male lion was definitely the strongest beast there.
Would this new ring have an animal like that?
If he killed him, would a new ring appear?
Nawaki made a bold guess, but he would need to verify it.
Nawaki smiled. That meant new possibilities to get stronger. Maybe even new secret art?
The thought of that made him smile more and more.
However, if so, it could also mean that the monsters in the second ring are more powerful. He might end up dying again.
However, he just needs to act cautiously again. Only if he's unlucky like the last few times to end up dying by some monstrous beast that's just passing by like the other times.
Nawaki used his mental strength to touch the other ring.
His eyes went dark. When he saw it again, he was on the grass plain.
He looked around. This grassy plain region had taller grass than the previous one. The grass was taller than ten feet. There were the incessant roars of beasts and battles. The air was filled with ferocity and the will to battle.
The moment he heard the rustle of grass, Nawaki turned into dark mist mode.
Nawaki hides.
What appeared was a gray lizard.
There were two of them.
They are huge gray lizards that had a shoulder height of five meters and a body length of 20 meters.
An interesting fact.
When Nawaki enters the hunting dimension, he is unaffected when using the shadow clones outside. That is, all of the 400+ shadow clones he used outside can be used in the hunting dimension.
Why was it like this?
Not even Nawaki knew.
The fact that he didn't enter his real body here might be the answer. Or maybe it's another reason.
Whatever it was, he had a few hunches. There, he tested sealing small animals in his body and releasing them into the hunting dimension. It was an expected result, but one that surprised him. It worked.
The fact that he managed to do that almost made him want to bring Tsunade. However, he struggled with this idea.
The fact that there are monsters that pass from time to time that could kill even her doesn't make this a viable option.
He tested it before, when he killed one of the animals or was killed by the beasts of the hunting dimension, was the death final, even dropped grains of dust from the red energy orb?
Well, it was just too small.
Obviously, he tested it with larger animals, but it turned out that what determines the size of the orbs is the amount of power the animal has.
Anyway, Nawaki created a little over 200 shadow clones and they soon used the dark mist mode.
Their presence was noticed by the gray lizards.
One of the gray lizards opened its mouth and emitted a dragon-like howl.
However, Nawaki who expected some kind of elemental power to come out, nothing happened.
The shadow clones have attacked!
Shaped like a half moon, wind scythes cut through the lizards' skin.
There were so many shadow clones attacking from all directions that there was no way to defend or dodge in time.
The lizards dragon roars grew louder.
Something surprising also happened.
The body parts of a gray lizard began to regenerate so fast that it was visible to the naked eye.
However, only one of the lizards had this ability, the other was taking its last breaths when the shadow clones focused on it, noticing that it doesn't regenerate in an exaggerated way like the other gray lizard.
*Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!*
*BOOOM! BOOOM! BOOOM! BOOOM!*
Aside from the sound of wind cutting, and the sound of battle, there were also some roars from the two gray lizards. But from start to finish, Nawaki didn't speak.
It wasn't even necessary to make comments like in the movies he watched.
Of course, he's seen a lot of battles in those few months using the shadow clones. Honestly, in some situations, he felt like hiding...
Well, back to the battle.
One of the gray lizards finally turned gray and dropped five even brighter red orbs and two purple orbs appeared.
Quickly, a shadow clone in dark mist mode took the orbs.
Needless to say, the shadow clones focused their attacks on the surviving gray lizard that was able to regenerate.
When experimented with fire being more effective, shadow clones switched to using fire art to attack.
Despite attacking from a distance, many clones ended up being killed, however, Nawaki who was nearby always made more clones attack again.
*BOOOOM!*
"Thump!"
As the gray lizard's large body fell into flames, it was soon possible to notice it turning to ash.
Nawaki's real body muttered, "It's over..."
He noted that just like before, there were five even brighter red orbs and two purple orbs appeared, but there was also a gray crystal orb.
"Hahaha!" Nawaki ended up laughing out loud when he saw this.
He had a bold hunch. 'This must be an art related to regeneration, yes?'
Aside from super-regeneration, this gray lizard didn't show anything different from the other gray lizard.
"Let's hunt more giant lizards!" Nawaki gave his verdict.
In fact, all shadow clones had similar thoughts.
Soon, shadow clones in dark mist mode were flying in the skies in search of the giant gray lizards.
