Chapter Eleven
"Um...surprise?" Butch offered as Young Justice filed into the church.
"What the hell?" Catgirl grated.
Arrowette had an arrow nocked and drawn. Devilina Dare had a boomerang cast back and ready to throw. Static was building a charge while Blue Streak prepped herself to dart in at her potential enemies. Girl Detective quielty found a corner to stay out of the way from.
Red Robin held up a fist, "Hold."
The Justicers didn't stand down but they didn't engage either.
"Like she said, what's going on here?" Red Robin repeated.
"Go play somewhere else," Black Siren sneered.
"We could actually use their help," Plastic Woman advised her.
"Yeah, you really have no idea of who we're up against. And she has a group of dedicated disciples," Morgan warned her as well.
"Never turn down free help," Captain Atomic added.
"We are here offering an alliance, after all," Morgan reminded Black Siren.
"Father, you'd best be getting ahold of Azrael, Batwing, and the others," Black Siren strongly suggested.
"Let me discuss matters with members of the KnightsQuest," Father M'Buttu stepped outside getting passed the Justicers.
"Go ahead and twitch," Blue Streak goaded the Penguins. Covertly, Father M'Buttu simply re-entered the rectory from its separate entrance.
When he returned to the church, Azrael and Batwing were with him, "You wished to speak. I suggest we do so now."
Azrael kept his hand on the hilt of his sword.
"Calm down, big guy. We're just here to talk," Plas advised him.
"You've always been an irritant whether as a man or a woman," Azrael coldly replied.
"Ouch," Black Siren winced.
"Why are we talking with criminals?" Batwing wanted to know.
"Because we have information you need and help to offer you," Morgan cut to it.
"Then speak," Azrael commanded.
"Watch the attitude," Black Siren warned him.
Azrael partially pulled his sword free, "If I draw this, it will not be sheathed again until it is bathed in your blood."
"Whoa!" Arrowette shifted her aim at him, "Calm down."
"Consider your next action wisely," Azrael counseled her.
"Enough!" father M'Buttu shouted above them all, "This is a sanctuary of prayer and peace. If you wish to fight amongst yourselves, go outside."
"He just saved your life," Captain Atomic told Azrael.
"We can still see, can't we?" Azrael replied.
"What have I missed?" Sister Lilhy asked as she entered in late, "Everything it seems."
"We know about Disco Mummy orchestrating everything happening in the city right now," Morgan got to it, "We want to help stop her. You're the only ones she hasn't specifically targeted so you're not distracted."
"Geez, they should be selling tickets to this," Hellequin announced as she led a procession that included Red Alice, Mad Hatter, the Tweedles and the Wonderland Gang. The Riddler also led the Riddles into the church.
"I believe the expression is, 'we're here to help'," the Riddler grinned.
"So where is Disco Mummy?" Sister Lilhy asked.
"In the Ryder building where she can't touched," Morgan told them all, "But, we know where she'll be going to."
"Are you sharing?" Batwing impatiently asked.
"Arkham to draw Knightfall out," Black Siren made it sound obvious, "The Pax Mundi dropped a lot of bodies so Disco Mummy has a small army she can raise included with her usual flunkies."
"Ugh. I hate mummies," Arrowette groaned.
"Young Justice has faced Disco Mummy before," Red Robin explained.
"We had the whole Justice Society behind us then," Static recalled, "And we still barely won."
"To be fair she had the Iranian army on her side as well," Catgirl reminded them.
"To also be fair, we still won," Red Robin interjected.
"Barely," Arrowette argued, "She raised a city's worth of mummies."
"But we did vanquish them," Raven Red came to Red Robin's support, "Catgirl and Static were there as well. We overcame impossible odds and drove Disco Mummy back."
"No one anticipated LuthorCorp literally buying Bailya and making our victory near meaningless," Red Robin was still angry he hadn't seen it coming.
"But it took MARS Corp working with LuthroCorp to drive the Iranians back in the end. They were just going to keep coming," Catgirl recalled.
"Look, Memory Lane is fun to stroll down but we need a decision. Do we work with them or not?" Girl Detective wanted to know.
"I agree," Blue Streak concurred.
"Which part?" Devilina Dare asked.
"All of it," Blue Streak told her.
"We'll do it," Red Robin declared for the team.
"Really?" Arrowette scoffed.
"Red Rob and I have done worse," Catgirl reminded her, "And so have you."
"That's why I know there's a line to be drawn somewhere," Arrowette argued.
"So walk away like Flag Bearer already did," Devilina Dare said bitterly.
"No one is walking from anything," Girl Detective promised her, "Right?"
"We should," Arrowette grumbled, "But we're already not supposed to be here anyway."
"Is spirit," Blue Streak congratulated her. She received several querying looks.
"What? I only one speak English?" she asked in a huff.
"The Russian mafia princess aside, we need to coordinate how to pull whatever is left of the JLI and JSA back together again when the Legion of Doom gets done with them," Hellequin suggested as a starting place.
"You really think the League and the JSA are going to get bashed in?" Batwing scoffed.
"The Injustice Gang and Secret Society were only meant to wear them down, not win," Morgan explained, "The Legion may or may not be defeated but either way it's going to cost your friends."
"I'm certain that with the Riddler, Enigma, Hellequin, Red Alice, and Girl Detective, we can create an ops plan that'll turn the tide," Red Robin announced.
"Why them?" Black Siren felt insulted.
"Because we all think outside your petty boxes," Red Robin wore a nasty smile.
