Chapter 08: Go Beyond! Plus Ultra!

Ever since he was a little boy, Toshinori Yagi had wanted to be one thing and one thing only; a Hero. He had been inspired by many legends as well as comics that he would read of Heroes fighting against evil forces. Sadly, due to his lack of a Quirk, it seemed he would have a hard time achieving his dream.

That was until he met a woman named Nana Shimura, a Pro Hero he looked up to who had taken a special interest in him after watching him save a girl from committing suicide. It was his compassion and willingness to do what was right that made Nana choose him as her successor to inherit the sacred power of [One for All].

With his mentor's blessing, Toshinori rose through the ranks, becoming a shining beacon of hope for those in need. Sadly, Nana lost her life against the enemy of the sacred power he had inherited. Seeing that man's evil firsthand, Toshinori knew that the one known as All for One could not be allowed to live.

Then, one day, he finally had the monster dead to rights. Their battle was violent and bloody, both suffered terrible injuries that would stay with them for lifetimes. However, a tragedy that Toshinori could not prevent occurred at the climax of their duel. Three innocent boys had wandered into the warzone, one was trapped under rubble and one had taken a fatal blow from some debris to save the last remaining one.

That shame would stay with Toshinori for the rest of his days, even when he landed what he thought was the final blow. He was able to save the other two boys but it was too late for the third one. Then, he learned one of the boys was All for One's son, who had run away from him, only to be pulled back into the nightmare.

It got worse for Young Akatani. His adoptive mother was given a Quirk that was not compatible with her body. She died in agony and alone and Toshinori realized his enemy was very much alive. Knowing that Akatani needed someone to protect him, Toshinori took the lonely child under his wing and when he saw his determination to bring an end to his monstrous father, Toshinori entrusted [One for All] to him, knowing that perhaps the son of his enemy who he had adopted as his own could be the one to end the cycle of violence and tragedy.

Now, in his remaining throughs as the Symbol of Peace, Toshinori had been entrusted with guiding the next generation, consisting of a kind and courageous girl named Izumi Midoriya, a strong and steadfast young lady named Katsumi Bakugou, and a girl with a desire to save others known as Ochako Uraraka. Also with them was his beloved niece, Melissa Shield, who had been there along with her father and his dear friend and brother in all but blood David at his darkest moments. They had accepted Akatani as a friend and a fellow future Hero and made him feel welcome among his peers.

But now, these villains, no, these COWARDS had dared try to harm his children. And all while he had been distracted, while his back had been turned for merely a moment. That was something he could not forgive...and he was going to make sure that these savages paid with irreparably shattered bones and blood as well as understand why he had been the Symbol of Peace for so long.

"HAVE NO FEAR! FOR I. AM. HERE!"

Class 1-A were all smiling in relief when they saw All-Might in all his glory, standing tall and glaring hatefully at the cowardly villains that had dared threaten his students and co-workers.

"I was starting to get concerned when we couldn't get through to the USJ. So the other teachers and I decided to see if anything was wrong. Imagine our surprise to see Young Iida rushing into the school with a look of abject terror on his face. I must admit, I never could have anticipated an attack of this scale. And all for the sake of killing me? I don't know whether to feel honored or insulted."

All-Might then noticed what he could only guess was the ringleader, whose left arm was missing at the shoulder and who was on one knee as Akatani stood before him, no doubt having dealt with him already. Pride swelled in the Symbol of Peace's heart at how courageous his adopted son and students were in the face of danger.

"But it seems you went for too many numbers and not enough quality in your villains. My students are only just starting to learn how to use their Quirks, and yet they mopped the floor with your organization. Especially my young protege, Mikumo. As intelligent as he is strong. Once he got his hands on you, you never stood a chance."

"We're not out of this game yet, All-Might! We still have our trump card to take you down!" Tomura snarled as he scratched his neck with his remaining hand in anger but was smiling his delight at the chance to sic Nomu on its intended target.

All-Might took a glance at the Nomu and could see all he needed to see as he ripped off his blazer and tie.

"So this is your trump card against me, hmm? It's quite grotesque, I'll give you that."

"Uncle Might!" Melissa called as she flew in along with Shoto, having seen her uncle's arrival. "Whatever it is, it's not human! Not anymore at least!"

"So this IS your game after all..." All-Might said to himself, knowing of only one man who could properly coordinate such an attack. "First thing's first, though."

With blinding speed, he took out the remaining villains in the center area before they could even think to gang up. During the brief melee, Tomura's hand mask came loose as he growled.

"Dammit! He's even stronger and faster than he should be. Of course, a government hero relies on violence. He's only a little slower than he used to be."

With the cannon fodder dealt with, All-Might turned towards Tomura and lunged forward, preparing to strike the ringleader down with a cross chop.

"CAROLINA SMASH!"

However, the Nomu, on instinct to protect its master, got in front of All-Might and tanked the blow. The residue pressure exploded behind it as All-Might looked up in shock at how fast the behemoth had moved.

"Like Nomu? His Quirk is [Shock Absorption]! Anything you can dish out, he can take. Think of him as a big walking punching bag...that can punch right back!"

"All-Might! Physical attacks won't work on it! I used electricity and I managed to stun it for a little bit, though!" Izumi called out as All-Might nodded and grabbed the beast to deliver a powerful suplex.

"If this guy was your big plan to kill me, then you'll need far more than endurance!"

"Actually, he was just the distraction," Tomura said. "Kurogiri! Do it now!"

To All-Might's surprise, Nomu grabbed his abdomen, and he found himself sinking into a Warp Gate. All-Might winced at the Nomu's claws were able to pierce into his flesh on the left side where his scar was, drawing blood.

"A good effort," Tomura said, "But Nomu was designed to be as strong as you are. And it looks like he found your weak spot, too."

"Doesn't it look like far too little blood is being shed?" Kurogiri asked. "I was certain he had taken a hard injury to that location five years ago."

"That's because I healed him from that injury! He still has the scars from it, but he's much more hale and hearty than he would've been had I not been there!" Melissa said.

"So we got a Medic, huh? I wonder if Sensei could use her..." Tomura chuckled, but that only served to piss All-Might and through sheer force of will, pushed against the Nomu holding him and escaped Kurogiri's Warp Gate.

"If your Sensei is who I think he is...THEN I SHALL NOT ALLOW YOU TO TAKE HER!"

"No!" Kurogiri said, moving to intercept All-Might with another Warp Gate, only for an explosion to strike his collar, knocking him to the ground as Katsumi got on top of him.

"Hey, fuckface! Bet you thought I would get killed in that place you sent me. Well, too bad, so sad!"

"Nomu, help Kurogiri!" Tomura said urgently, only for a sheet of ice to hit the beast, freezing half of its body.

"We came here as part of rescue training," Shoto noted as he approached. "I guess helping to rescue the #1 Hero makes for a good start. One of your poorly trained thugs told me the whole plan."

"Also, I couldn't help but overhear your comment earlier," All-Might spoke to Tomura as he dusted himself off. "About government heroes turning to violence? Maybe if more of you were less likely to use violence as your only option, we'd try a little more diplomacy. After all, a hero isn't just about punching a villain's lights out and calling it a day. We also have to be there to keep civilians safe and remove them from danger. That's why people cheer for us when we're forced to use violence against villains."

"He's right, Tomura. Whatever bullshit you're trying to spew won't work." Akatani said with a scowl as he approached his former 'brother'. "So why don't you accept this loss with dignity, go back home to 'Daddy', and tell him he can kiss the fattest part of Fat Gum's butt!"

"Looks like you got me all figured out from the start..." Tomura grumbled, scratching his neck. "But the game isn't over yet. NOMU!"

Much to everyone's shock, Nomu tore itself free from the ice, losing half its body in the process but horrifying everyone present when it began regenerating at a rapid rate.

"I never said Nomu only had [Shock Absorption], did I? He also has [Super Regeneration]! He can regenerate from anything short of a destroyed head."

"Dear God, does that thing even feel pain?" Izumi asked in disbelief.

"Nomu, rescue Kurogiri from that blonde bitch!" Tomura ordered as the beast obeyed, charging at Katsumi faster than anybody could track.

Before the brute could reach its target, All-Might raced at even faster speeds, getting Bakugo out of the way and tanking the hit himself. The force of it blew him backward and tore apart his undershirt, but other than that he stayed on his feet and didn't even look remotely injured.

"Looks like straight-up force with you isn't enough to take me on," All-Might noted. "Strong as me at 100%, you say? Maybe so, but unlike me... Its strength isn't variable."

All-Might then pushed Nomu back and then began wailing on it, his punches picking up speed as the monster slowly began getting pushed back, much to Tomura's shock and disbelief.

"At UA High, we have a saying!" All-Might said as he continued to wail on Nomu. "It was first started when I graduated from this very alma mater. It's a saying I used all the time, to push myself forward. To forever move past my limits. And in time, the school used that very idea as a means to improve its student body. Now let me show you...THE TRUE MEANING OF THOSE VERY WORDS!"

All-Might channeled all he had in the residue of [One for All] still within him and pulled his fist back before throwing it forward with everything he had.

"GO BEYOND; PLUS ULTRA!"

Punching the Nomu straight in its midsection, the creature's back bulged as the force went through it before it shot back, out the windows of the USJ, and into the ionosphere, becoming no more than a twinkle in the sky.

"Impossible! He completely overwhelmed [Shock Absorption]!" Kurogiri said in shock. "And that power! It's far beyond what we were told!"

"Has his power even dropped a little in five years!?" Shigaraki asked. "Sensei's clearly working off of outdated information!"

"I am getting a bit weaker in my older age," All-Might said as he leaned forward to catch his breath, steam pouring off his back from the power he exhumed. "Back in my prime, I could have ended this fight with one punch, but now it took over three-hundred mighty blows, even with my injury healed."

Tomura scowled as he scratched his neck hard enough to draw blood. "So it really was Game Over from the start...DAMMIT!"

To make matters even worse for the Villains, the doors burst open as Tenya came in with the rest of the UA Staff, all of them ready to take down the cowards threatening their students.

"You okay, Shota?" Present Mic asked as he and Midnight came over to Aizawa, who was being tended to for any injuries by Tsuyu, Minoru, and Ochako.

"I'll live..." The 1-A Homeroom Teacher said, nursing a gash under his eye from a Villain's lucky shot.

"There's no winning this level now," Tomura decided. "Damn it... Someone changed the game code on us. Kurogiri, we need to get out of here!"

Kurogiri, who had managed to escape Katsumi while she was distracted by Nomu earlier and being protected by All-Might, moved to envelope himself and his ward, teleporting them to safety and leaving their cannon fodder to their fates.

"We may have failed this day, All-Might, but we'll kill you and tear down everything you stand for in this sham-filled society!" Tomura spat one last threat before turning to Akatani. "And my dear little Ototo...I'll be seeing you very VERY soon."

"In your dreams...TENKO." Akatani coldly spat back, taking slight pleasure in how Tomura clenched at being addressed by that name just as he disappeared through Kurogiri's Warp Gate.

"Is everyone okay?" Izumi asked as all of Class 1-A was safely reunited together. Melissa was healing any injuries anyone may have had.

"Man, that whole thing was insane!" Rikidou said, rubbing the back of his head. "I didn't expect real villains to show up today, that's for sure."

"Even so, we've had our eyes opened to the world of heroics and how dangerous it truly is," Momo said. "Though I believe we all did a phenomenal job keeping it together and standing our ground."

"Heck yeah! We may have been separated, but we were like the Avengers or the Justice League from the comics!" Eijirou said with an excited grin.

"But seriously, I was scared out of my wits...but at the same time, a sense of excitement ran through me!" Minoru said. "In fact, I feel more confident in my abilities than I've ever felt before!"

"Still, I had no idea that Aka-Chan was connected to those creeps," Mina said as Akatani had briefly explained why he knew Tomura earlier. "He's such a nice guy."

Akatani blushed at Mina's words and looked away shyly as Izumi, Ochako, and Melissa noticed and giggled playfully at him, which only made him blush even harder.

"Yes, and it was a good thing he destroyed that Villain's Quirk." Tsuyu said. "What we saw it do to Aizawa-Sensei's arm..."

"Don't worry about me, I'll be fine," Aizawa said, having overhead the students' conversation, his decayed elbow having been bandaged and put in a sling for the time being.

"If you say so, Sensei..."

Tomura scowled as he sat on a couch in his hideout, clutching his stump as Kurogiri had managed to bandage and bind it.

"I take it your little 'raid' didn't go as well as you thought."

Tomura huffed as he turned to see three figures approaching him. They were his brothers and partners in crime. All of them had been taken in by Sensei after the society they lived in had rejected them. Together, they had found camaraderie with each other as they all had similar goals; to tear down society and remake it in their own images.

The first was Kyushu Shigaraki AKA Nine. He was a young man with thin, rectangular gray eyes and white pupils as well as long silvery-white hair. He wore a black mask that covered him from his chest to just above his nose, four extra pieces winding around the exposed skin of his face and around his head. Four darker plates cover each side of his neck, lined with dark purple, and he had what appeared to be something similar to the flat muzzle of a gas mask over his mouth that was decorated with seven gray studs, as well as a large purple and black cylinder protruding from each of his shoulder blades. Below this, he wore a full-body suit of a similar design, with plates of black covering his entire body, leaving only his fingers exposed, and, over this, a blazer and dress pants of pale lilac color and black boots.

The second was Rokuro Shigaraki AKA Number Six. He was a young man with a fairly athletic physique, long black hair gathered in a ponytail, and a long diagonal scar that went across his face and over his nose. He wore an open trenchcoat with a blue and yellow spandex suit underneath and he had a bandana over his head with enough room for his ponytail to come out.

Finally, there was Isana Shigaraki AKA Curator. He was a young man with fair skin, short, messy black hair, and a tired-looking bagged eye. On his left side, his skin was dark blue, his hair white, and his eye is red and stretched very wide. He also had a blowhole on his forehead, as well as very sharp teeth jutting out from his mouth. Half of his face was covered by a gray diving helmet with barnacle-shaped protrusions, which has a large collar with a lock hanging in the center. He wore a plain black suit underneath a flamboyant, light purple coat with a tall collar, lined with white fur. He also wore a gold watch and a matching bracelet on each wrist.

"You could say it went absolutely to shit..." Tomura chuckled as he turned to his brothers. "Guys...I saw Aka-Kun. He was with the Heroes. He also got rid of my Quirk and to be honest, a part of me feels grateful that he did."

"So that's where he went off to. And here we thought he had died in Sensei's battle with All-Might five years ago..." Nine hummed in pondering.

"So after Sensei raised him with all his love and support, he turned on him for the fakers calling themselves Heroes?" Number Six sneered. "What a shame. If only he could have stayed with us, then we could have become true Heroes!"

"Easy, Rokuro," Curator said to his brother. "This has still been a learning experience for Tomura. In due time, he will come out from this stronger and wiser than before."

Tomura huffed as he leaned back against his couch. "All the cannon fodder we brought served their purpose. But now we'll need to scrounge up better party members."

"Slice, Chimera, and Mummy are still on hand." Nine said, referring to his three closest companions outside of his 'family'.

"And my two own compatriots Zookeeper and Bearhead are awaiting our command as well," Curator added, referring to his two personal comrades as well.

Tomura pondered for a moment before getting an idea. "See if we can't call in that trio of punks, the Volcano Thieves. I'm sure they'd love to join our cause and wreak some mayhem in our name."

"There you go, brother. Already, you're getting back on your feet!" Number Six praised. "I'll send the word out!"

As Number Six disappeared in the blink of an eye, moving faster than the eye could track, Tomura turned to the television and then back at Nine and Curator.

"So, while we wait for Rokuro to come back...wanna play some Mario Party?"

"This time, I'm going to win," Curator said as he sat down on the couch.

"You've had a bad day, brother, so we'll go easy on you this time." Nine said as he also took notice of Tomura's lack of an arm. "Also, we'll get the Doctor to look at that for you."

"Yeah, thanks."
