Dear Diary,
Today was possibly the best day of my life, for I met the most beautiful girl I have ever laid my eyes on.
There have always been servants and farmhands working in the stables whenever I take Luar out for a ride, and I often stop to say hello. I know them. I know Thorley, who speaks of his wife with a twinkle in his eyes. I know Kestrel and the beautiful songs she sings to herself while grooming the horses. I know Edwin and his two wonderful children, who like to visit the horses. I haven't met anyone from the other stables around, though I've heard some names, like Luis.
Emerson, who looks after Luar when I am away, left yesterday to take care of his sick mother. I wrote to you, Diary, about her illness and the long journey ahead of him. I wrote about how someone else would be filling in his position until he returns. She's here today, one of Luis' daughters, and she is unlike anyone else I've ever met.
Luar can be anxious and restless around people he's unfamiliar with, yet he was calm this morning when there was someone I didn't recognize in his stall. She had her back to me while brushing his mane but turned when I asked her name.
My breath caught.
Her dark hair was in a plait, but a few loose curls framed her gorgeous face. Her dark eyes shone like dark pools of the finest cocoa, open and friendly as she took me in. I could drink them in for hours and never tire of the depth swirling in her brown eyes. Her smooth skin was the colour of rich honey, sweet and golden in the sun's light. I yearned to lean in and kiss her perfectly plump pink lips to see if she tastes as luscious as she looks. To gather her in my arms and feel her warmth and strength. She has a beautiful name, too. Madison. It is like the delicate song of a bird, musical and magical. It even looks pretty written down. Madison.
Madison curtseyed and introduced herself, but I was in awe of her beauty, rendered speechless in her presence, only barely remembering to respond. She must have thought there was something wrong with me for how long it took me to respond, though she didn't say anything. Instead, she smiled prettily, and I almost swooned right there in the stables.
Luckily for me, Madison asked about Luar and if I wanted to prepare him for a ride or if I wanted her to do it, then apologized for not knowing my preferences. I suggested we saddle him up together, so I could tell her what he likes and doesn't like, though I mostly wanted the opportunity to talk to her more. There was only so long I could linger before my extended presence became questionable.
I asked her about her home life, but she guided the conversation back to Luar. Taking the hint, I talked about the freeing feeling of the wind in my hair and his strong body moving underneath mine as he gallops through open fields. Madison agreed on how exhilarating it was, and I was overjoyed to learn that she also rides. I asked if she'd like to join me, to which she smiled sweetly and said, 'One day, My Lady.' One day. I cannot wait for that day.
Here's to hoping it comes soon.
Until next time,
Jamie
