Chapter 11

Kate and Nyssa walked into the bank at the prescribed time. The latter had put on black slacks and a red blouse which had gotten Kate all distracted. For a woman who had to hide who she was and made a point of hiding her figure behind weapons and capes, she also knew how to show off that figure.

"Try and stay focused," Nyssa's words cut through Kate's thoughts.

"Sorry. I'm running on caffeine and adrenaline and they are both petering out," the brunette admitted while straightening her pastel button-down shirt and brushing imaginary lint from her navy pants.

"Well thinking unclean thoughts won't help you," Nyssa teased. The two went off to a teller window asked for the manager, explaining they had an appointment. While they were doing that, Kara came in separately. She walked to a separate teller window and engaged the woman at it by asking on how to get a safety deposit box.

"Miss Kane, I'm Gary Preator, manager of the Bank of Gotham. The Crows informed me you have concerns about the security at the bank. Needless to say, we take that kind of thing very seriously," he explained. The man was about six foot tall and had salt and pepper hair cropped close with a beard and mustache combination which matched his head hair.

"Do you have an office? Or somewhere private to chat? I'm sure you understand," Kate said.

"Yes of course. I must apologize. It has been a very busy day and the added concerns have me a little rattled," he admitted before indicating for them to follow him. The three headed to a hallway and entered the first door on the left. The bank manager offered them seats in front of his desk before sitting behind the handmade antique piece of furniture.

"Forgive me, you are?" He asked Nyssa.

"Nyssa Raatko, security consultant for Miss Kane," she introduced herself.

"This must be worse than I thought," Gary swallowed.

"The search for my sister has led to the sewers. That is why we have come to talk to you today," Kate explained.

"Oh dear," Gary said.

"The Crows found a possible backdoor into the bank and that is why they called me. As owner of Wayne Enterprises, I have plans for every building that Wayne Enterprises ever owned. This building was once home to a branch of the company and then sold to the bank," Kate told him before pulling out her phone and showing him the photos, that Kara had sent to her.

"I remember that it was closed off a long time ago. Is there some suggestion that it might not be any more?" Gary immediately grew more concerned.

"That's why we were sent in. The Crows wanted someone to make sure the inside of the bank was secure without drawing attention to ourselves," Nyssa spoke up.

"Good. I would not want to incite a panic from bank customers," Gary nodded before leaving his seat and heading to the file cabinet next to his desk. He reached into it and pulled out plans that Kate did not have access to. Unrolling the plans, he pointed out the renovations made.

"The opening was left a company secret until about ten years ago. Batman suggested we close it up after he foiled an attempt to get into the vault," he explained.

"A wise man," Kate smiled slightly.

"Indeed. I can take you down there to make sure it's all secure. I'm fairly certain we would have heard something if it wasn't though. It's in a secure part of the bank, not opened to the public," Gary figured they'd be safe.

"Any new employees on the payroll? Anyone asking to have a security deposit box?" Nyssa pressed as she and Kate left their seats. The bank manager paused.

"No new employees. As for safety deposit boxes, I'd have to check," he admitted.

"We can check that later," Kate said, more wanting to check the inside of the bank to make sure no one had managed to gain access. They moved outside the office and that's when they heard gunshots coming from the lobby.
