Well, this is it—part 3 out of 3. Depending on when I upload this, this will be the first story I ever finish. I hope you all enjoyed this. Thanks to everyone that has left a review or support so far. This chapter won't be as happy as the first two though. Here we have it, the end of Margygr's Fate. I apologize for not posting in December or January. I had Finals, my Birthday, and the usual Holidays, so I was pretty busy.
Arctic Ocean, Somewhere Near Modern-Day Greenland
Margygr looked around wonderfully at the glaciers as she lazily swam by them.
Big things of ice floating in the ocean.
This place is quiet, and devoid of life.
Not many creatures live in these freezing conditions.
Even fewer Titans permanently reside in these areas.
Scylla and others of her kind prefer to live in these colder areas at both ends of the world.
There's also some weird giant walrus thing. Seriously, how is that hideous freak even considered a kaiju?
She could only vaguely remember the name of that Giant Walrus. What was it? Maguma? Maybe... She's not sure.
Her ears then picked up on a muffled splash in the water nearby.
Turning to look, her black eyes settled on the sight of a lone seal. The tiny creature must have dived into the water from somewhere above. Maybe the side of a glacier? A floating sheet of ice?
The small mammal continued to swim through the water, moving at surprising speeds as it maneuvered past the glaciers and floating chunks of ice.
Such a tiny animal. A predator, just like her. A carnivore that eats fish. She eats fish too, but much more regularly feasts on entire pods of whales.
Margygr slowly swam forward. She was careful in her movements, not wanting to startle it. Despite her massive size compared to itself, the brown creature didn't float away in fright.
Instead, it swam right in front of her. It barked in curiosity, entirely black eyes making it look oddly adorable.
Oh, come on... Stop looking at me like that.
Uncaring of the low rumble coming from the Purple Swimmer, the seal barked again, swimming past the frill at the top of her head.
She won't eat it. A lone seal won't fill her up at all. A whale or an orca, sure. But a single seal? No.
Besides... She'd never admit it to anybody, but that seal is just too cute.
Yet, to a fish, that swimming carnivore is a monster trying to eat it.
That's how things are.
Margygr continued to swim around.
Per the strange orders of the Alpha, she's supposed to find Manda.
That Water Serpent and Purple Swimmer both share one thing. They are both the last of their respective kinds.
When the two first met, it started the way the Whale Hunter went through most interactions.
She started a fight.
Only Manda's friendliness, despite having been attacked, made her halt.
That first encounter was one of the most memorable moments Margygr has had so far.
The two bonded at first over their common similarity of being alone.
Their personalities seem like they should clash.
She's solitary and not very friendly to others, more often than not pushing other kaiju away or starting a fight. Manda and Gojira are the only exceptions. Of course, Gojira is the Alpha, she has to listen to him. Manda is her only sort of, maybe... "friend".
Manda is outgoing, social, and playful. Completely different from her.
They should have never gotten along.
And yet, they have.
Margygr lightly chuckled to herself. Her "friendship" with Manda is the only positive social interaction she has. She doesn't get along with Na Kika, Gezora, Tiamat, Ganimes, Leviathan, and all the others.
The Purple Swimmer continued her steady pace, navigating around the floating blocks of ice.
She shivered, shaking her long body a little.
She never understood how any animal can stand being comfortable in these frigid waters.
She thought to herself, a low call echoing in the ocean. Why is Manda even up this far north anyway?
Her purple eyes glanced around. Margygr shook her head, her light purple frill moving around.
Manda has to be around here somewhere, but where?
Then, she saw something quickly moving, just at the corner of her vision.
Using her fins, she turned to look in that direction. Her purple eyes looked through the blue water, not seeing anything that could have made that sudden movement.
A little wary now, Margygr continued swimming forward, weaving around the many floating chunks of ice.
This was starting to get annoying.
How is Manda doing this well at not being found?
The Purple Swimmer turned her gaze down, towards the dark abyss below. Maybe he's down there, but that only raises more questions. Why would the Water Serpent be near the seafloor? In those dark, murky, depths.
Last she checked, his night vision isn't terrible, but it was not that good either.
Then, the realization dawned on her. Manda might be playing that blasted game of "hide and seek", or whatever it's called.
She doesn't play it, but she knows how it works. One kaiju "seeks" while the others get a short amount of time to hide. The winner is whoever gets found last.
In her opinion, it sounds like a stupid thing young ones do to pass the time.
That could be it, but that means there must be at least two kaiju.
Unless her "friend" decided to just do this without telling her, he might be playing with someone else.
She knows Manda well, and even then the Water Serpent can still surprise her.
Then, she saw something.
Barely for a second, she saw what looked like the end of a tail or fin swaying as something moved behind a block of ice, and out of sight.
It moved too fast for her to see its color, but she has an idea of the shape.
She knows only two Titans with that tail fin are Tiamat and Manda.
Tiamat's are purple, a darker shade than her scales though.
Manda's scales are light blue.
Margygr snarled, turning to look in the direction of that floating block of ice.
Tiamat. If that's you, then back off. Now.
No response. Tiamat usually isn't one to back off from fights.
She loves combat and fights more often than even herself.
Although, she always asks, and it's only until one submits. Something about being fair and "not the point to kill your opponent."
It can't be Manda. That serpent can't fend off a Genitor.
She tried to teach him how to better defend himself, buts so far, they haven't made much progress.
Then, she heard a muffled roar in the water nearby. She recognizes it.
By the time the Purple Swimmer finally realized what was happening, it was too late.
She felt scales quickly wrapping around her body. She was being lightly squeezed.
In a few seconds, the other kaiju had wholly wrapped around her body.
Margygr roared in fury and turned to attack her new foe.
Woah! Woah! Relax, it's just me!
His head finally came into view, his red-yellow eyes looking at her in surprising happiness.
Margygr was genuinely surprised. A confused roar came from her jaws. Manda? Wha... H-how did you-
She was cut off by a delighted call from the Water Serpent.
I ambushed you! Haha! Those tricks you've been teaching me are working!
The purple kaiju was left in stunned silence.
She was caught by surprise, and by Manda of all kaiju...
She was silently impressed. Manda is just about worthless in combat, both on land and water.
The fact that he was able to surprise attack another animal was impressive. While the ambushing part isn't everything, at least it's a start. Still needs to work on actually attacking an opponent.
Margygr tried to wriggle free, but Manda's grip was too strong to get out of.
Yeah, okay... Well done Manda. Now, get off.
Manda seemed to ignore the request. He was just too happy with his accomplishment.
Manda continued rambling, excitedly roaring. Bubbles came out of his open jaws and into the blue water. He can breathe down here just fine.
I can't wait to tell everyone about this. They'll be so impressed that I-
The Purple Swimmer sharply cut him off with her own. No. Don't. Tell. Anyone.
If anyone else figured out that she was in some way bested by Manda of all kaiju, she'd never live that down.
Manda is known as friendly, social, and playful, and can't defend himself from anything.
She squirmed again, wriggling to try and get out of Manda's strong grip.
I'm serious, Manda. Let me go already.
Still oblivious, Manda just kept roaring about anything that came to his mind.
You were actually really easy to track. Your purple scales stand out a lot in the water, you know. I just went from one floating block of ice to the next. Once I got close enough, I went in from behind you!
She snarled, just saying one word this time, her growl getting more and more annoyed. Manda.
Somehow still not paying attention, the Water Serpent kept going. It's not that different from a game of chase. You know, I think you might like that one. It's pretty fun.
Her purple eyes widened in curiosity when he mentioned that game he called "Chase". Maybe she is a bit interested in that.
No, no. Priority, make Manda loosen his grip.
Manda. Let go of me already. The tone of her roar was moving from annoyed to angry.
Somehow still not paying attention, the serpent kept roaring, oblivious to the predicament his friend is in.
As her friend kept going, Margygr finally had enough of this. Yes, Manda can be a bit oblivious when he's rambling about something, but this is just ridiculous.
Oh for the love of... She stopped herself. She can't attack him. Not after the first time. They're on good terms. She isn't going to ruin her only positive interactions with another kaiju. No. She won't attack him, but something harsh has to make him let go.
Manda. Let go of me before I bite your fucking head off!
Manda recoiled from the roar, his eyes briefly showing fear.
He quickly unwrapped his long serpentine body from around Margygr.
He didn't look at her, instead keeping his gaze guiltily towards the dark abyss.
The Purple Swimmer groaned in relief, shaking her body. That took too long.
She set her sights on Manda again, only to pause when she saw his mood.
He looks upset.
Did you need to be that harsh?
The low sound the Water Serpent made was met with no response.
Manda quickly decided on what he'd say. That's the best way to cheer them both up. Besides, it was his fault. He wasn't paying attention, and never realized that the whole time, he didn't unwrap himself from Margygr.
I'm sorry, Margygr. I didn't realize I hadn't-
His roar was cut off by a low rumbling call. No. Don't. Don't... apologize. I shouldn't have roared that angrily.
The two aquatic kaiju calmed down.
Manda was happy with this. While Margygr kept him from properly apologizing, she admitted her own wrong too. That's progress.
The two have in a way been teaching each other things.
Margygr was teaching him how to defend himself and not do terribly in combat.
Meanwhile, he's been trying to teach his friend how to be, well... friendlier and not immediately resort to violence.
Safe to say, she's been making more progress with him than the other way around.
Margygr was calm enough that she could smooth that over.
The two looked at each other, unsure of what to do next.
After a moment of awkward silence, Manda broke the lack of noise with a sound.
Oh, I know! How about a race?
Margygr tilted her head in confusion. A race? What's the point of that? She was about to say something, but never got the chance to.
The last one to the surface is a rotten fish! The joyful call was all the Purple Swimmer heard before Manda began moving his serpentine body, quickly swimming towards the ocean surface.
Margygr growled in annoyance. Hey, wait! No fair!
She quickly moved her tail fin, using her front fins to turn herself upwards, and tried to catch up.
Having a few seconds' headstarts, Manda was in the lead in his self-proclaimed game.
The Water Serpent rumbled happily, his red-yellow eyes filled with joy.
Behind him, his friend was catching up.
Margygr couldn't help but internally admit to herself that there is some enjoyment in this "game".
There's zero point in doing this. It's just a waste of energy. Yet, it's something fun. That, and she's doing this with probably the only other kaiju left alive she remotely cares about anymore.
For a bit of time, it was quite fun. Although, being massive Titans it didn't take either more than a minute to reach the surface. They were already close enough to it, and their sheer size and speed made the distance negligible.
With his early lead, Manda was in first place in the race.
He triumphantly roared as he reached the surface, sharply turning to avoid accidentally leaping out of the water with his momentum. As he turned, the edge of his paddle-like tail did briefly break the water's surface. He felt the familiar sensation of being out of the water on that part of his body, even if it was just for a moment.
Then, he has completely submerged once again.
Margygr caught up moments afterward.
He bragged in a playful call that filled Margygr's ears. I won! Just like that race with Ganimes!
The Purple Swimmer internally grumbled a little, but she didn't complain openly. Yes, that was a fun experience, if nothing else. And next time, assuming Manda doesn't have another headstart, she'll easily earn and keep the lead, instead of playing catch-up the whole way.
So... These are games. They're a complete and utter waste of both time and energy, and yet... it's still fun. Probably the most fun she's had in a long time.
The two kaiju both made a strange laughing sound. It surprised Margygr, who rarely had a reason to make a sound like that, while Manda was used to hearing himself make that guttural call.
Then, they both heard thunder. Looking up, they could see that the weather had rapidly worsened. Dark clouds blotted out the sky, blanketing the Arctic in darkness.
The ocean surface quickly became rough, and even the surrounding chunks of ice, some even bigger than them, were moving violently and shakily.
Flashes of lightning streaked across the sky, the yellow bolts making Margygr move slightly away from the surface.
Manda could see a flurry of snow falling from the clouds. It's coming down hard.
I'm not liking this very much. It's reminding me too much of...
She stopped herself. The last thing she wanted was a reminder of the storm that left her beached.
The Water Serpent quickly responded with his cry, his red-yellow eyes filled with worry. Yeah, me neither. Storms like this are even worse this far north. Although...
His voice trailed off. The look in his eyes then turned to one of hope and perhaps cheekiness. The frilled swimmer turned to look at her friend. Although what?
Manda responded, a guttural call sounding out into the water. This far north, there is no rain. Instead, there's snow!
The Purple Swimmer tilted her head in confusion. She has no idea what her friend is on about. Snow? What's that?
The serpent made a sound that could best be described as a sort of gasp. Oh, I have to show you this then! Follow me!
Once more, before his friend could make a sound, the Water Serpent moved on, quickly swimming towards the ocean surface. After a moment of hesitation, she followed him.
The two broke the ocean surface a few seconds apart from each other. Manda stared up at the dark clouds, excited.
His purple-colored friend looked around with a little hesitancy and worry.
Just look up and wait. You'll see them. He chuckled briefly, the call much clearer in the open air rather than underwater. Maybe even feel them too.
Margygr waited. It didn't take long for her eyes to spot what Manda wanted to show her. She could barely make out small white specks falling from the dark above. There are so many of them. This must be "snow". She's never seen anything like it before in her entire life. How could she have missed something as wonderous and beautiful as this for so long?
They're... Beautiful.
Her jaws were open in a sort of toothy grin, uncaring if the crashing waves sent water into her mouth. She's an aquatic creature, it doesn't matter. She could feel some cold sensation briefly all across her head and frill, the parts of her body above water. Most of her body, along with her fins and tail, is still surrounded by blue liquid.
I know. And I knew you'd like them.
Manda paused for a moment, briefly thinking of what to say. Despite the stormy weather slowly turning worse, this moment with one of his more stubborn and distant friends is great. The last thing he wants is to accidentally ruin it by saying something that she won't take kindly to. Then again, how could he possibly do that?
Sometimes, the only reason I come to these cold places is to watch the snowfall. On land and sea, it's the same amazing thing.
The two both dived back down, away from the surface, not far enough.
The two jumped as they heard a chorus of three screeching roars.
Chills went up Margygr's spine, and it wasn't from the cold.
Oh no... Margygr, dive! Now!
Yet, it was too late.
Two golden-scaled legs plunged into the water. Both limbs managed to grab hold of Margygr's back. She roared in surprise, ready to do something she is used to. Fight. Yet, this was something she's never done before. Fight an aerial opponent, and The One Who is Many wasn't about to enter the water anytime soon.
She was pulled out of the water in the blink of an eye.
Margy!
Manda's eyes were wide in fear. His mind is panicking. Nonononono! This can't be happening! Why is he here!? This can't be real!
He could do nothing but watch the golden form of the Devil with Three Heads flying above the turbulent skies, carrying one of his friends.
Margygr tried to wriggle free but to no avail. She tried to turn to bite at the leg of her attacker, yet couldn't turn her neck enough.
She was too frenzied by the idea of combat and defending herself to care that she was out of the water, and actually in the air.
Who are you!? Let me go!
The massive form of the other Titan moved. Two giant flapping wings kept him airborne. Two tails draped out behind his body. Three heads turned down to face her.
The center spoke first. We are the Golden Demise. And you, my purple victim, are dead.
The cold way he said it made Margygr's bravery and anger falter.
Then, the right head lunged down at her, biting into her neck behind her frill. Margygr cried out in pain, feeling sharp teeth puncturing her scales and digging in, sending shocks of pain rippling through her body around her gills.
She heard another voice. Ni! Careful! I want to turn to do something!
A muffled cry rang out, she assumed from the one biting her. Shut up, San! I'm killing this pathetic fish, not you!
She could see the left head of the Golden Hydra reaching over the right, harshly nipping at his scales. Ni roared in anger, his jaws opening wide. This made him drop Margygr.
She plummeted back down into the ocean below, hitting the surface with a loud splash that sent foam and waves in all directions.
Now, look what you made me do!
Ni! San! Get a hold of yourselves! Stop bickering and find her! Then, we give her an electrifying shock!
Both heads grinned evilly, with Ni maliciously snarling at the mere thought of using his gravity beams on a helpless aquatic kaiju.
Oh, I like the sound of that!
Manda quickly swam up to the barely moving body of Margygr as he began to sink back into the water. A red hue began to stain the water around her.
He nudged his friend, trying to urge her on. Come on! We have to go deeper! Now!
She groaned, her eyes looking wearily at her friend. Her front fins began to move a bit, yet it was slow.
The bite to her neck and the damage to her gills, her main way of getting oxygen to breathe, hurt like mad.
Yes, she's suffered injuries in battle before. She's used to the painful sting of piercing jaws, the harsh clamp of claws, or the blunt slaps from a limb, yet nothing ever this severe.
It just hurts. It hurts so much...
Then, the two golden legs splashed down into the water again, reaching out toward Margygr.
Manda was enraged. No. No. Not ever. He won't let one of his friends die.
Manda bit down on one of Ghidorah's legs, earning him the sound of three pained calls from above. Then, one of the heads plunged into the water. He doesn't know which, and it doesn't matter. Ichi. Ni. San. They're all still Ghidorah. No matter their different personalities, they are all evil and vicious and a threat to his friend. They tried to kill her and they will pay!
Then, a bolt of electricity struck his body, her his tail.
Manda cried out as the electrical shock stung his body and made him shake.
It wore off quickly, but that time bought Ghidorah the chance he wanted.
Right before his eyes, Margygr was pulled out of the water once more.
I hope you rot in a fire... You monster...
Ichi cackled in response to her weak cry.
Oh, I'm afraid not. If there is one, enjoy whatever afterlife there is.
All three heads reared back. Then, their necks began to glow a bright yellow.
Margygr could see the yellow glow in the back of their throats. Small sparks of yellow and tiny bolts emerged from their mouths.
Thunder rang out, and bolts of lightning streaked across the sky.
Then, she heard the sound of the gravity beams being fired. Directly at her head.
She closed her eyes. And then, there wasn't any more pain.
No more thoughts.
No. One last thing.
The last thing she could barely say went through her jaws.
M... Ma-Manda...
King Ghidorah watched as he dropped Margygr's scorched body back into the ocean. They had aimed their gravity beams at point-blank range right at her head and frill. It was all black and burnt and she looked very dead.
Hahahaha! Add another to the list!
Wow, that was fun! Another little life snuffed out by us!
Oh, Godzilla. How many more have to die before you shall join them?
Ni, San, and Ichi all chittered in joy as they thought about the life they had just snuffed out, flapping their golden wings.
Another innocent Titan was slaughtered. Or was it? They don't know. All they know is that they killed her. Her body will be left to rot.
All three heads of Ghidorah imagined that, perhaps, one day, that will be their greatest rival and one challenge to ruling this world.
Godzilla.
Yamata no Orochi let out a number of relieved roars as Mothra healed the electrical injuries the black dragon sustained while fighting Ghidorah.
Most of the others left after Ghidorah fled.
Methuselah, Abbadon, and Anguirus all left the area completely.
After being healed and begrudgingly having his apology accepted by Gojira, Behemoth went back to his cave.
Godzilla looked around at all the others.
Mothra was finishing up with healing that eight-headed dragon. Orochi is just plain weird.
Yes, he has more heads than Ghidorah, but at least the Black Dragon only has one personality.
Rodan looks exasperated and has the look of "someone please make him stop".
Varan is having a one-sided conversation with said Fire Demon, going on and on about anything the glider can think of.
Godzilla chuckled, looking down at his poor volcanic friend.
You see, gliding is actually different from flying. I don't have wings. I can't even flap them if I don't have wings. Rodan, you have nice wings. They're coated in volcanic rock. Oh, that reminds me...
Rodan groaned, wishing Varan would just stop talking for one second.
Although, nobody had to heart to tell him to shut up. Varan is just too innocent and likable, somehow.
He is mostly nice to others, and oblivious to whenever he himself is mean or offensive.
Varan is just, well... Varan.
He flinched when a chorus of eight roars all said one thing at the same time. Thanks, Mothra!
The Queen of the Monsters nodded, bowing slightly to the newly healed Black Dragon.
It's my pleasure, Orochi. I always heal those who are in need.
Yamata then began flapping his four jet-black wings, taking to the sky. He then left, flying out over the ocean.
He's probably heading back to those islands he lives on.
Gojira knows that giant island and the surrounding ones well. There are some humans there he has a higher interest in.
Orochi, himself, Dagon, and sometimes Jinshin-Mushi all call it home.
That leaves now only himself, Mosura, Rodan, and Varan in this clearing where they fought off Ghidorah.
All of sudden, he saw Mosura's eyes widen in fear, and she chirped in worry.
Oh no...
Her worried chittering sounds got the attention of Rodan and Varan.
The Glider and Volcanic Pterosaur both stopped what they were doing, turning to face the Divine Moth.
He knows what this means.
She has probably sensed that somewhere on the planet, something bad has happened or is happening.
He can't explain it, and he never understood Mosura's detailed explanations of how it works.
He impatiently called out to her, his golden eyes filled with concern.
Mosura, what's wrong?
Varan let out a light call as well.
Did something bad happen?
It took a moment, but Mosura did respond.
Although, her somber tone, slouched body position, and sad eyes let all three kaiju know what she meant.
Margygr... She's... Gone.
Manda was unmoving. He couldn't believe what just happened.
If he wasn't underwater, he was certain there'd be tears in his eyes.
Instead, they were simply one more drop in the vast ocean.
He couldn't speak. All he could do was gently nudge the disfigured and scorched head of Margygr.
This couldn't be real...
Ma... Margygr?
No response.
She didn't move at all.
Her neck wound still bled, but not as much as before.
No...
Manda whimpered as he nuzzled her, hoping to get her to wake up. She didn't.
The Water Serpent was left alone in his grief.
There's just no way to describe how he feels. The feeling of loss... Permanently losing someone you care for...
Yes, he has other friends, but Margygr was special.
The two were close. Obviously, it was nothing more than that. No, that mere idea that they were more was ludicrous. Yet, she was so distant from everyone. Aggressive. Lonely. He was her only friend. And now, she's gone. Never to laugh. Never to play. Never to roar. Never to swim. Never to fight. Never to be there again...
The last Purple Swimmer is gone. She's... dead...
Manda sorrowfully turned in the direction the Death Song of Three Storms flew off to.
Ghidorah did this.
This can't happen again...
He knows Godzilla is the Alpha. That won't change for a long time.
But... If Ghidorah ever does become the Alpha, bowing down would mean he'd never lose a friend or be harmed by him again...
Right?
Trust me, this was painful to write. I feel so bad for both of them. I want to keep Margygr around. Maybe I should have. I would say "I hope you guy's enjoyed this", but I can't. This was just sad. I'm still working on the Reign of King Ghidorah, don't you worry. Although, for now, I hope you enjoyed Margyr's story and finding out about Margygr's Fate.
