Clash For Control

Eric brought the rangers up to the rooftop before he turned around to face them. "You can forget it. The quantum morpher's mine."

They all looked at him sternly as Wes told him. "It doesn't belong to you."

"Finders, keepers," Eric responded smugly which caused Jen to ark up.

"You don't understand the power it has."

"Oh, I understand, much more than you think I do." Jen and Wes looked at each other before looking back at Eric as he continued. "That's right, once I get control of the Q-rex... The sky's the limit."

No one spoke before their attention was caught by a beam as they looked up at something in the sky, Katie asking. "What's that?"

They all ran to the edge of the rooftop to look as the portal opened. "A time hole," Trip gasped before he turned to his teammates. "Ransik's going back for the quantasaurus."

Eric took off running, only pausing to answer the question of what he was doing. "No one's getting the Q-rex but me. Quantum power." Wes leapt forward as he morphed. "I'll just beat Ransik to the punch. See ya. TF Eagle."

As the eagle landed and the quantum ranger climbed in, Wes yelled, "Eric," before running after him.

As the eagle took off towards the time hole, Wes didn't think as he launched himself off the roof and onto the side of the flyer before they went through the time hole. He'd distantly heard the rangers call out his name as he'd jumped off the roof but what he didn't hear was Jen shout, "Wes, no!" as they went through. Because back in the year 2001, Jen stared at the time hole as fear flooded through her.

They'd rushed back to the clock tower to search for them, well mostly Wes. They had no idea where he was or what was happening, they could only hope that he was ok. And that was why Jen was glad that Trip was the one at the computer scanning for him, she could feel herself trembling and knew her hands were shaking. Someone who was in control of their emotions fully needed to be searching for Wes at that moment and though she wouldn't say it aloud, she was not that person in that moment. She stared at the screen as they searched and Circuit shook his head. "We've scanned four thousand millennia and not a trace."

She looked sternly at Trip as he glanced at her. "Keep looking."

With a nod, he continued his search, feeling as Katie squeezed his shoulders before she turned to Lucas. She gripped his shirt as she asked. "What if we can't find them?"

"Then we better hope they can find their way back."

Jen glanced at him because of his response, her fear intensifying and she had to swallow the lump in her throat as her attention fell back on the screen.

Every single battle seemed to be throwing curveballs their way and they were just glad at the end of each one, they emerged victorious. When they returned to the clock tower at the end of the day, Wes was deep in his thoughts as he leaned against the table before finally asking. "Are you guys sure you made the right decision?"

They all looked at each other curiously as Katie asked him. "What do you mean?"

He turned to them as he admitted. "Well, you might catch Ransik faster if you teamed up with my dad."

"No way," she laughed. "We don't need-"

"Hold on Katie," Jen interrupted as she look at Wes. "Maybe we didn't think it through, right?"

They looked at her incredulously, Trip asking. "What?"

"Well..." She said as she walked towards Wes before turning to them, looking around the room. "I was just thinking... wouldn't it be nice to move out of this cold clock tower." She pointed to Lucas. "And you could drive one of those cool SUVs." He exhaled, seeing her reasoning. "And no more odd jobs... Maybe it's not such a bad idea after all, right?"

Wes only looked down, he understood her reasoning but he couldn't help the hurt he felt also. The eyes of the other three rangers fell on him before they returned to Jen, not sure how to respond. She looked at them with a grin as she said. "Hellllooo, I'm just kidding."

They all let out a breath as they looked at her in relief. Katie looked at her with utter confusion as she blankly stated. "Jen, you've never told a joke in your life."

She smiled, looking at them cheekily as she shrugged, looking over at Wes with a grin. A grin which he returned as he shook his head in exasperation. "I'm gonna get you." He jokingly threatened as he chased after her. She took off running as all the rangers chased after her, running up the stairs. They eventually caught her and despite the stress she'd initially caused Wes, it was just what they needed to cap off the stressful day.

Once the joke was over though, he still found himself inside his head. They sat around the table once more before he addressed them. "I haven't gotten a chance to talk to you guys yet, but I'm sorry about everything that happened with the quantasaurus." He ended up telling them everything that happened back in the past and they all felt anger bubbling inside them because of Eric's actions, regardless of whether he helped them win or not. "If I had just gotten control of the quantasaurus before Commandocon, then none of this would've happened."

"You can't blame yourself," Lucas told him but he shook his head.

"Hey," Jen said, making Wes look at her. "It's one thing to be fighting against a mutant but when you've also gotta fight another person – a ranger at that – that's preventing you from fighting that mutant, that's a whole different ball game. It's not your fault Wes and you didn't fail, it's just... one more challenge we have to overcome before we can beat Ransik." She glanced at the door before shaking her head, her resolve hardening. She turned back to the group as she stood up. "Excuse me."

They watched as she walked out the door, silently wondering where she was going and it didn't take long before Wes went off on his own too. Trip couldn't help but shake his head as he looked up at Katie and Lucas. "How come I got in trouble last time I screwed up and I got lectured but she didn't lecture Wes, he didn't even get one reprimanding word."

Katie laughed as she revealed. "That's because you're not Wes."

Lucas rolled his eyes with a laugh. "What, is she in love with him or something?" When Katie only shrugged, their eyes zoned in on her. "What, really?"

"I don't know about love but there's definitely some feelings there. Though for argument's sake, let's say that she is." She stood up and placed a hand on their shoulders. "Let's just say that when it comes to Jen, neither of you will ever be on the same level as Wes, because she's not in love with you."

Jen was determined, each step meaningful as she headed towards her destination. Her knuckles rapped on the door and she waited – somewhat impatiently – for it to open, and to say the person on the other side wasn't impressed to see her would've been an understatement. "What do you want?"

"We need to talk. Now."

He huffed but let her in before he crossed his arms. "I don't know how you found me but I have nothing to say to you."

"Well, I guess it's a good thing you're here to listen then, huh?" She said in a condescending voice that the recipient didn't appreciate before her face morphed into its stoic expression. "The stunt you pulled today was absolutely unacceptable and frankly, you're a joke."

He scoffed. "You have no right to come in here and talk to me like this, you should leave."

"I'll leave when I'm finished. I've fought against some pretty sick and twisted creatures in my life, and you can believe me when I tell you that you're not much better Eric. You let Wes fall off a cliff and left him there for dead. And instead of fighting against Commandocon and stopping him from taking control of the quantasaurus, you fought against Wes when he was trying to stop him. And to top it off, you fought him again to try and take over as the leader but you're sorely mistaken if you ever thought that was happening. The only redeeming things you did today were bringing Wes back through the time hole and for regaining control of the quantasaurus but the list ends there. I don't know if this is a joke to you, but your actions today almost cost us and we can't afford any more stupid mistakes like that so you need to get your head out of your ass."

Eric rolled his eyes. "Typical Wesley Collins, always sending someone else to do his job for him. Tell me, did he give you the speech or were you allowed to come up with it on your own?"

Jen glared at him. "You're a real piece of work and for your information, Wes doesn't even know I'm here. He would've told me to forget about it because there'd be no point in talking to you and frankly, he's probably right. You don't know the first thing about being a ranger."

"I am stronger and better than Wes will ever be." He said arrogantly. "There is no one more qualified to be a ranger than I am."

"Strength and determination are not the only things that make a good ranger. Our duty is to our people and our time, we're here to capture Ransik and his mutants and to protect the city. But you wouldn't know the first thing about that. I don't know what your problem is with Wes but it's making you a spiteful asshole." She shook her head. "And you know, for someone who claims that Wes only thinks about himself, you are a hundred times worse than he's ever been and if you think that we'd join you over him or that we're better off without him then you're even dumber than I thought. The spoilt rich kid you claim Wes is wouldn't have given up his privilege to be a ranger, he wouldn't have gone against his father and come to live with us in the clock tower and he certainly wouldn't have risked his life to save this time. Wes is not this evil person you've made him out to be in your head and if anyone is selfish for their reasonings about being a power ranger, it's you."

"You can think whatever you want, I don't care. I know what I can do and I know I am a better ranger than he is."

Jen rolled her eyes. "You see, that's where you're wrong. Wes is twice the man that you are and he will always be a better ranger than you will ever be." With one last look of disgust, she turned away to walk out. "Good night Eric."
