"Hang around Beethoven long enough and you'll pick a few things up." The Doctor said, slightly mischievously, slightly show-offy - he knew Tish was listening.
"Like how to play loud." Replied Martha, laughing.
"What?" The Doctor said, cupping his hand to his ear, feigning deafness. The two travellers laughed, letting off all the stresses of almost being killed by a huge mutant. They began to walk back. Tish was up ahead, and Martha sped up to go talk to her. The Doctor recognised that this was a conversation that he didn't need to be part of, and stayed back.
"What was he going on about, Beethoven?" Tish asked, smiling.
"Oh, you wouldn't believe me if I told you." Replied Martha, the joy of surviving, again, not having worn off yet.
"Martha," said Tish seriously, "today, my boss de-aged 30 years, tried to seduce me, transformed into a mutant bug-lizard thing, and then your boyfried-" she ignored the protests from Martha "-stopped him by playing the piano, really, really loudly. I doubt there's much I wouldn't believe at the moment." She said. Martha sighed.
"I'll tell you everything, one day. I promise, really. But right now… Tish, even after that you wouldn't believe." Tish raised her eyebrows; what could be so amazing that, even after the day she'd had, was unbelievable?
"Just… promise me you'll be safe." She said, somehow guessing the fact that this type of 'adventure' seemed to follow the Doctor.
"'Course I will, Tish."
"So, c'mon then, are you and that Doctor fellow…?" She asked, raising her eyebrows again.
"No, not at all! Just friends. Travellers." She said, smiling. "He's got... someone else, though."
"Oh, come on though, he's gorgeous, you've got to admit…" Tish said teasingly, elbowing Martha.
"Shush! He'll hear you!" She said, bumping her back. Tish turned over her shoulder, gauging the distance between them.
"Calm down, he won't be able to hear from over there." She said dismissively. "And those were some skills he had on the piano, I'd like-"
"Organ, actually." Called the Doctor, no closer than before. Tish blushed, then checked and was surprised to see how far away he was from the two of them.
"Amazing hearing." She commented, quieter than before.
"That's just the start of it." Muttered Martha, praying that his Timelord ears weren't good enough to hear that, though it was (well, could be, she thought) a completely innocent remark. He was an alien, after all.
"Just promise you'll tell me everthing." Tish said, seriously.
"I will. Every heartbeat." Replied Martha.
"Not just yours. Every beat of his heart too, okay?" Tish told her, giving her a hug. Hearts, Martha automatically corrected in her head. And she absolutely would.
Ahem. This is just a one-off, about Martha and Tish, a bit pointless, not significant or anything, was just floating around in my head for a bit so I wrote it down/typed it up. Fits in just before the end of The Lazarus Experiment - as you probably guessed.
Enjoy, and review, or else I'll get my 'friend' Lazarus to attack you and drain your life energy! :D
