Hard Times
Chapter 1: The Briefest Moment
by: ronaldbiliusweasley
The ride home from the hospital was silent. Much how Adrian wanted it. She didn't want noise. She didn't want anything. She didn't expect anything from anyone anymore.
The most important thing she had expected in the last 9 months was to be a mother and, now, with that expectation shot to hell, she didn't know what exactly it was that she wanted.
Ben Boykewich. Her husband. He took the death of their child harder than anyone besides her, obviously.
But no one experienced what Adrian had. No one.
Adrian had carried her child. She had walked around for 9 months, getting bigger and bigger as each day passed, expecting the life inside of her to come out at the end of her pregnancy and be the little bundle of joy who would change Adrian's entire life for the better.
That, however, was not the case.
She closed her eyes and brought her hand down to her stomach.
For the briefest moment, she expected for her hand to reach her stomach sooner than she knew it would. She expected to still have her baby bump. She expected to place her hand on her huge stomach and feel the familiar kick of the baby, the kick that usually came when the father of her daughter, Ben, was near.
But her hand reached her stomach a second later than she wished. Beneath the thin fabric of her t-shirt, Adrian felt only soft skin...no firm, round stomach like she wished.
A single tear slid down her cheek. She began crying loudly, and her mother unbuckled her seatbelt from behind Adrian and leaned forward, placing a comforting hand on Adrian's shoulder.
Her father continued staring right at the road in front of him, unable to look at his heartbroken daughter.
Just then Adrian's phone vibrated, signaling she had a new text message. She took the phone from next to her on the seat and opened it up, reading the text she had received which was from Ben.
I love you.
Author's Note: Okay so...that's definitely the shortest chapter of this story. I just really felt that (even though they are ridiculously airing the next season right after this one ended) the story needed to be continued. I can't guarantee when I'll update, but I'm really hoping everyone will enjoy this story as much as I will. Please R&R, and, as always, I'm open for suggestions. :)
