Abandonment.
How would you feel if your own mother didn't want you? Ian was annoyed and broken. To be abandoned by a parent was one of the worst things imaginable. Can you believe the pain, washing over you afresh each morning that Apollo brought? It was like a poison dagger right through his heart. Each day, it was twisted, causing him to gasp at the torture rushing through him. There was no way to escape the sense of abandonment. So instead of accepting it meekly, Ian opposed it. He joined Kronos's army in retaliation to his mother's ignorance of him. He fought against her side for the mere fact of his abandonment. His life had been a living hell. Simple as that. What did he have to lose by going to the "winning" side after all? His mother wouldn't care about his betrayal after all. She was rather comfortable with the topic, seeing as she betrayed Ian to his life all on his lonesome.
Watching as he died from a poison arrow was the worst thing that Eos had ever had to put up with. A tear traced its way down her face as she watched each shuddering breath that he dragged in, hearing the raspy sounds as it exited noisily. When the sounds ceased, she rushed over and cradled her boy's face in her hands, his cold face splattered with her sparkling tears. The Fates were cruel indeed, if this is what he deserved. . .
