Story Notes: Fanfiction story, based upon Kate Beckett and Rick Castle's relations. NO DISRESPECT INTENDED! This was just quickly typed up, if there are spelling errors; my apologies!

~This is part 1.

First chapter's of any of my fanfiction's will always be short, mainly because if it doesn't have a great response - I'll just delete them.

After 'Always'.

Kate was the first one awake out of the two of them , sitting in one of the chairs beside his bedroom window. Her shoulders draped in one of Rick's over-sized shirts. The sun hadn't even begun to rise. She didn't know how long she had been staring outside that window, watching the light breeze ruffle the trees and disturb the grass.

"I didn't hear you get up,"

Turning slightly, Kate untucked her feet from under her as she faced him.

"I am a detective. Was- was a detective," She whispered the last few words, her attempt at a joke stinging her insides.

Rick kneeled down, pressing a lingering kiss to the insides of both of her wrists before looking up at her.

"What are you rambling on about, Kate?"

He knew he had to be gentle, careful with her right now. Even after everything she had said - it was still confused, stubborn Kate. She breathed out slowly, softly tracing his hands with her fingers. How could she tell him what she did? Well, of course he knows what she did now. Kate rolled her eyes at herself.

"I don't have ajobanymore. I kinda quit." She said it quietly, almost ashamed, thinking of what he thought of her.

Rick released one of his hands from her's, playing with the ends of her hair before tucking part of it behind her ear."It's you I love Kate, not your job. You can be anything you want to be. Do anything you put your mind to. I'm right here." His hand rested against her neck.

A few tears sprang into her eyes, she blinked furiously, turning away from him."Do you talk to all the girls like that?" She joked, trying to lighten the situation.

After a minute of two, Rick stood up, pulling Kate up by her hands and then wrapping his arms over her shoulders in a comforting hug.

"It's okay, we don't have to talk about it."

Kate just responded by resting her head into his chest gently, a few silent tears making their way down her wet cheeks.

A few hours later, Kate was in the kitchen raiding the fridge. Her eyebrow creased in concentration, swinging the door back and forth gently.

"You have no food. None, Rick. Don't you eat?!"

Feeling something warm against her back, she immediately snuggled closer, a small smile spreading on her lips.

"Did you check the cupboard?" He whispered, leaning down to press a soft kiss to her neck.

Turning around, Kate played with the front of his open shirt. "I did, but all of a sudden I'm not hungry anymore."

Her eyes were eyeing his soft abs, bringing her finger down and running it across them gently. Rick hissed quietly at the feel of her cold hands, grabbing her wrist quickly as his eyes darted to her's. They were getting darker with each passing moment. "Ric-"

Her phone started to ring in the other room.
