Chapter 14
"You can't control me
Soon, I will be free
This is my future
Free from this torture."
Year: 2019
Daniel and Lisa ran through the hallway shooting the creatures in their path. There were many creatures pouring out from the tubes rushing towards them. "These things just don't know how to quit, do they?" Lisa shot the Ebitans and they dropped dead at her feet. A small undead with an oversize nail jumped at Lisa but she gave it a hard kick in the head before it could sink the nail on her. She winced in disgust and shot it in the head.
"Are you alright there?" Daniel asked Lisa while he shot the undead the other way. Lisa shrugged. "It'll take more than a crazy zombie with a nail to bring me down." Lisa said with a confident tone. "We're everyone's last hope to stop whatever is causing this..."
"You...are WRONG!" the dead commando roared as it rose up from the floor. "WE are humanity's last hope. You are confused!" the commando pulled out the combat knife and stood in an offensive position. "What the?!" Lisa exclaimed. This was probably her first time to hear a dead guy talk. "Get back! I'm not here to fight you!" Daniel lowered the shotgun down. The commando didn't listen. Instead, it rushed towards the two with an alarming speed. "Suit yourself!" Lisa opened fire. It immediately dropped dead.
"Jeez! You're too easy." Lisa scoffed at the dead body. They almost got away until they heard it got up again. "Wha-?" Lisa couldn't believe her eyes. It charged at Lisa and tried to slash her face but Lisa dodged it just in the nick of time. "Hey! Leave her alone!" Daniel shot at its chest. It dropped on the floor again. "Stay down!" Lisa shot rapidly at its body. It stopped moving.
"...let's go." Lisa called Daniel and walked down the hallway to the elevator. Daniel glanced at the dead commando before he followed Lisa...then, he heard the something move again. He turned back and saw that same commando pulled another knife from the boot and was about to fling it at Lisa. "Lisa, get down!" Daniel shouted. Lisa got down...but not fast enough. The knife slashed her side and went straight and hit the elevator's up button. Lisa clutched her side.
"That is for my friends!" the dead commando scowled. It knocked Daniel down and was about to stab him when Lisa shot at it again, sending it away from Daniel. "...and that is for trying to kill us!" Lisa scowled back. The commando got up again. "Stay down! I said...stay down!" Lisa fired its head off its shoulders. It didn't drop dead. Daniel shot its legs off. The dead commando stayed dead on the cold floor.
"T-the elevator!" Lisa called. The elevator was going up. They ran and jumped in the elevator just in time. Lisa sighed in relief. She glanced at Daniel. "What...is it that they're trying so hard to protect?" she asked Daniel. He was about to answer when the elevator shook. There were two skinny zombies hanging from the elevator's platform and were trying to get them both. Lisa and Daniel kicked them out.
"These things never quit..." Lisa groaned. They reached the power room. The Ebitans crawled out from the water and other creatures came out from the dark. Lisa and Daniel shot them all down. 'You're making a mistake...' the voice of the Wheel of Fate echoed from the chamber. Daniel glanced at the door. The last two commandos were guarding the entrance and were about to throw their knives at Daniel, Lisa shot them down first. "At least these guys aren't so tough like Casey." Lisa referred to the commando they shot down. With no more creatures left in the room, they entered the chamber.
When Lisa saw what is inside the containment, she backed away in surprised. "What the-?!" she gasped. She was expecting to see an ugly monster in there but this one was completely different. A silver humanoid with glowing eyes shimmered inside the containment.

"...this is the last thing that my father left behind." Daniel explained to Lisa who was still looking at the Wheel of Fate with wide eyes. "I've spent the last nineteen years watching this evil grow." The Wheel of Fate glared at Daniel, completely ignoring Lisa. "I know it's dangerous. I've always known that..." Daniel headed for the controls and disrupted the system.
THREAT LEVEL: ERROR...

PRIMARY TARGET: DANIEL CURIEN. SECONDARY TARGET: LISA ROGAN.
INITIATE THE WHEEL OF FATE IN 30 SECONDS...
"But how...?" Lisa looked around the room. She almost jumped when she saw the metallic spikes near where she was standing. She could swear that she saw a spark of electricity came out from them. When she looked back to Daniel, she saw him backed away from the controls.
WARNING: SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT INCOMPLETE. ERROR.
"...I managed to hack the program. That should give us the opening we need." Daniel told Lisa as he pulled her away from the controls. Lisa got a glimpse of the screen. There was a name on the screen that surprised her. G and Daniel did mention the name before. The being inside the containment was Curien.
The lights in the chamber started to get brighter as the power of the whole facility came inside the chamber and went in to the silver humanoid. As the lights subsided, Lisa looked at the silver being...then back to Daniel with confused expression on her face. The screens around the chamber flipped back in to the wall and the whole chamber seemed to teem with energy.
"Before we do this...I just wanted to ask..." Lisa pointed at the Wheel of Fate. "...are you sure you want to fight your own father?" Lisa couldn't help but wondered about it. '...and here I thought that my relationship with my dad was way bad...'. "The future belongs to those who are alive here and now." Daniel answered. "I'm prepared to live the rest of my life bearing the burden of my father's crime." Lisa nodded. 'Some burden...crime against humanity is some burden...' she shook the thought away and focus on the mission at hand.
"Okay. We just gotta to believe in ourselves."
The invisible force shattered the containment's glass. The metal plates around the chamber flew to the silver being and connected to one another, forming a gigantic silver wheel with dangerous spikes. It rotated itself around the being, acting like a shield. The Wheel of Fate flew upward and looked down upon the two humans that stood in his way.
"I am Curien." it addressed itself with cold robot-like voice. "I shall destroy everything...and ressurect everything."
At the sight of the Wheel of Fate outside from the containment for the first time sent chills down Daniel's spine. A strange feeling hit Daniel and his mind was screaming at him that there was something wrong. He felt...light. He didn't notice it until he heard Lisa. "What's happening?!" she shrieked. Then he saw it. No wonder why he felt light.
His feet weren't touching the floor. Lisa also flew upward slowly, still gawking at floor. The Wheel of Fate was playing with gravity. Everything in the chamber seemed to move upward, even some wires looked like they were tugged upward. Electricity flooded the whole chamber every twenty seconds, brighten the walls and the floor like waves of electric surge. One hit can fried a person to death. This was obviously a devil's playground...
Electricity ran through the spikes of the gigantic wheel and seemed to power it up. The blue hologram appeared around the wheel, showing unidentifiable glyphs. The long electrical spike started spinning around the wheel and suddenly stopped at one of the glyphs. Lisa readied her gun. "Whatever that thing is doing, it doesn't look so good." she muttered. The Wheel of Fate suddenly flew to the other side of the chamber, still in the middle of the wheel that spun around him, and started shooting lightning waves at Daniel and Lisa.
"Heads up!" Daniel shot the waves and they vanished. As soon as the waves were all gone, the silver being flew to the other corner and started firing the same waves at them. "Hey! Stop that!" Lisa barked as she shot the waves down with Daniel. They saw the silver being flinched. Lisa tilted her head in confusion. "...What just happened? Did we hit something?" she still stared at the monster before her.
The same thing happened again. Electricity surged through the wheel and the spike started spinning around the wheel. It stopped at a different glyph.

A grid appeared around the chamber and it started spinning fast. The wheel spun faster and faster. Without a warning, the Wheel of Fate flew around the room in a blinding speed. "What the?! Stay still!" Lisa shouted as she tried her best, trying to shoot it. She missed most of the shots and the rest were blocked by the wheel. "I don't think it'll do what you say, Lisa." Daniel tried to follow the being, observing its movements and flying patterns.
He noticed that the wheel always rotated around the silver being and always blocked the bullets. 'Bullet-proof wheel...How bothersome.'. The silver being was also bullet proof. He actually saw the bullets bounced off its skin. It was as if the being...no. 'Everything has a weakness...Nothing is invincible...I disrupted its system so it should have some weak points or something...'. Lisa was still trying her best to shoot it but it was too fast for her. Daniel heard her swore in frustration.
The trace of electric current followed the Wheel of Fate as it moved around. Suddenly, it lunged forward. Lisa panicked. "Aaaah! Get away from us!" she screamed as she shot it. Then...it happened. One of the bullets hit the power core in the being's chest and it flinched. A spark came out from the core and that seemed to shock the silver being. It stared blankly at Lisa.
HOSTILE: LISA ROGAN. THREAT LEVEL CHANGE TO MEDIUM.
"The core..." Daniel turned to Lisa. "Shoot the core on its chest.". Lisa nodded. "Thanks for telling. We better destroy this thing faster. I don't think it looks so happy."
"Destroy me? You will never destroy me!" The Wheel of Fate hissed as the third glyph appeared at one side of the giant wheel. "Your end is near and you cannot change it!". "I think you mean your end, spiky! We'll finish you before you can even say 'ow'." Lisa smirked as she cocked her gun.
STRIKE 4 FAILED. CHANGE TACTICS. STRIKE 3 INITIATE.
The Wheel of Fate shifted to the end of the corner and generated electrical shield. It darted towards them. "Watch out!" Daniel pushed Lisa out of its way and took the direct hit from the electric shield. "No!" Lisa screamed. The Wheel of Fate flew to other corner, preparing to strike again with the shield. Daniel...was going to hit the wall. 'If he hit the wall, it'll fry him!' Lisa glanced around, trying to find something to help. That was hard though since she was floating around above the ground and the wires that kept moving along the electrical wave... The wires.
They all waved around the room like vines in an upside down jungle. She didn't know how much time she has until the next wave went through the wires so she had to act fast. She pulled herself to one wire and to another and caught Daniel by his arm before he hit the electric wall. He was only a few inches away from it. "Thank you." said Daniel. He quickly aimed the Wheel of Fate when he saw it came back at them. Both Daniel and Lisa shot its core. The being flinched. For a few seconds, its eyes flashed in cold fury.
"Take that, you monster!" Lisa blurted and shot the Wheel of Fate again...but the giant wheel blocked her last shot. "You cannot stop me. I will not let you.". The Wheel of Fate scowled as the new glyph appeared on the wheel.
STRIKE 3 FAILED. CHANGE TACTICS. STRIKE 1 INITIATE.
"This new world does not need you humans!" It unleashed volleys of bolts and swung them towards Daniel and Lisa. While they were busy shooting the bolts, the being blasted the gun right out of Lisa's hands. She shrieked in horror. "M-my gun!" it didn't fell on the floor, thankfully, but it floated away from her, following the electric wave like a magnet. 'Now what!' Lisa frowned. She was unarmed. 'Great! Daniel could use my help right now and I have nothing to shoot that thing!' she put her hands in her pants pockets. 'Well, dang it! I left my other gun in the car! I got nothing on me aside from extra bullets and a combat knife that I didn't-'
Lisa paused. 'That's it! I got only one shot with this knife...' she pulled it out and aimed. The Wheel of Fate was busy, trying to zap Daniel and seemed to ignore Lisa at the moment. She heard a faint click from the gun. Daniel fired the last bullet and now he was as vulnerable as she was. 'One...Two...' Lisa waited for an opening. When the core was clear on her sight, '...Three!', she threw it. The situation got worse when the Wheel of Fate suddenly shifted to a different spot and the combat knife almost hit Daniel.
Lisa stared with her mouth opened. "...Ah, what the heck, man!". In tantrum, she threw a bullet magazine at the Wheel of Fate's head. It turned its attention to her. "...oops." Lisa turned pale after she realized what she had done. "Your attempt to destroy me is futile." The Wheel of Fate scowled at her. Lisa hated to admit it herself but that being was right. That was futile. She froze when she saw it came for her. There was nowhere to go since she was floating in the air...in one place. It caught her neck and choked Lisa.
Daniel caught the bullet magazine and reloaded the gun. "Hey!" Daniel shot the being in the head. the bullet bounced off but that caught its attention. "Let her go!" he couldn't shoot. There was no clear shot to the core...and he might hit Lisa. A wicked smile smeared on its face. "Command accepted.". It threw Lisa straight at Daniel. Daniel caught Lisa before she hit the wall. Lisa gasped for air. "Your fate is sealed." the Wheel of Fate shot the bolts out towards them.
"Dang it...if I have my gun-" Lisa muttered then she saw something floating towards her. Both her gun and her combat knife came towards her. 'Well, well, well...what goes around really comes around. Oh, goodie!' Lisa grabbed her gun and shot the bolts. She snatched the knife before it went away and handed it to Daniel who was about to reload the gun. "It's your turn!" she blurted and continued to shoot the bolts. "Watch out! It's coming back!" Lisa nudged his side. Indeed, it was coming straight for them. It was a clear shot. 'This...is for everybody you killed in this facility.' Daniel flung the combat knife at the core.
The Wheel of Fate roared. The knife sank deep in the core and sparks shot out from its core. It pulled the knife out from its core but it got worse. The core seemed to burn the being from the inside and became unstable with sparks that shocked the being.
WARNING. CORE DAMAGED. ERROR. ERROR. STRIKES FAILED. DAMAGED. THREAT...DANGER-...
"Looks like your fate is sealed." Lisa mocked. Her smirk disappeared quickly when she saw all the glyphs appeared at the same time and the giant wheel spun faster than before.
2 HOSTILES DECTECTED. NO PRIMARY TARGET. ERADICATE ALL HOSTILES.
"..." Both Daniel and Lisa froze. The giant wheel spun faster and unleashed millions of bolts to the walls. The bolts deflected from the walls and came back towards them. Lisa checked the bullet magazines...she had only three bullets left. 'Three against millions...' Lisa glanced at Daniel and saw that he was glaring at the Wheel of Fate. 'Did he even see those bolts coming at us?!' Lisa started to panic.
The Wheel of Fate was now flared in gold. Daniel could see electricity surged through its body like waves. This being would do anything to get rid of them. Sparks shot out from the damaged core. It looked fragile. Daniel focused on the core. 'You changed everything I knew...' he aimed at the core. 'You killed everyone in here...and wiped off civilization...' he heard Lisa screamed in fear. 'If there's one person who's going down, I'll make sure that you'll go down first!' Daniel pulled the trigger.
CONDITION CRITICAL. UNABLE TO RE-...ERROR. CRITICAL-...
The bolts dispersed in the thin air and the electric wave around the wall disappeared. The Wheel of Fate screamed as it was electrocuted by the core. It struggled to contain its own energy inside but it was no use. Its core was heavily damage and became unstable. The giant wheel lost its power and dropped down on the floor and shattered in to pieces. Both Daniel and Lisa slowly came down to the floor as the gravity levels returned to normal. Lisa was relieved...for a moment before she gazed up to the being.
"This...is the world you humans wanted." It tried to create a bolt but what came out from its core were sparks. It winced. "...the world...is over populated. Even you must realized that!"The Wheel of Fate reached out its hand at Daniel while the other held its core. "Daniel..."it spoke. "You need me..."
Daniel took a step back, glaring at the being in spite. Need it? It was pleading for its life, that was what he saw. Never. He never wanted a monster like this in his life. Lisa had enough of its excuses. "This is our future. We'll handle it ourselves." she raised her gun and aimed at its core. "You got bigger problems to worry about.". "...D-Daniel, please...don't do this. You will not survive out there...you need me...you're my...". Daniel didn't want to hear the rest.
"You're NOT my father!" he shouted. Both Lisa and Daniel shot the core.
The Wheel of Fate screamed and exploded. The whole chamber became dark for a moment...then emergency lights appeared at the edge of the chamber. The machines and wires were burned and there were smoke around the chamber.
Daniel looked up. The Wheel of Fate was finally destroyed. A sense of relief came and the weight in his chest was gone. The threat in this facility, the being that destroyed the world and kept him here was gone at last. He was free. 'I'm no longer bound by the past...I've begun walking towards the future'
"Hey, let's go! They're waiting for us." Lisa called. She looked relax from the way she walked out the door. The major threat was taken care of and her father was safe, outside of this facility. Daniel took one last look at the chamber before he followed Lisa. There was nothing in the chamber that he should worry about anymore...
...or was there?
