I'm going to be honest when I say that I really didn't try on this last chapter. I really just wanted to finish the story so I can be done with it. And as I read over what I've written with this, it sucks, but I'm too lazy to finish it. Anyways, sorry again if there are any fans of this story, and sorry for the crappy lemon. I need to work on it, guess that means I need to read more lemons XD.
Maka ran, boots splatting in the rain puddles. Soul's handle was gripped tight in her gloved hand. It was so cold outside; she couldn't feel the tips of her fingers as she rushed at the floating form of Mantis. Her eyes were glistening green, and her dress flowed in out in an emerald wave.
All Maka could feel was the burning sensation of rainwater tumbling over her face. Her dirty blonde locks were plastered to her face, and her cheeks were red in the cold. She glanced around at their surroundings, a wooded area with a sheet of mud blanketing the ground.
Mantis giggled maniacally. "The two little babes are back for more! You know I can sense wave lengths too, girly, and you're two souls just aren't working together."
"How do you know I can see souls?" Maka hissed between ground teeth. The wind whipped around her, causing ice cold water to pelt against her body.
"I know a lot about you. You see, I get satisfaction knowing the lives of those I am going to brutally murder," Mantis said thoughtfully. Her twin swords were held delicately in her slim hands.
Maka felt a chill go down her spine at Mantis' words. Fear was bubbling up in her throat but she forced it down. Her grip on Soul tightened and she dashed towards Mantis' waiting form. Leaping into the sky she brought Soul down, missing Mantis by inches as she darted to the side.
Her scythe's handle blocked a deafening blow from one of the witch's duel swords. The two cracked together and reverberated in Maka's bones. She fell to the ground, slipping back into the mud but leapt up to sloppily block another blow from Mantis. It sent her flying into a nearby tree and her breath left her in a gust of steam out her lips.
She fought to regain her breath as Mantis closed in and Soul yelled at her frantically to get up. She struggled to her feet and weakly avoided the swipe of a sword that imbedded itself into a tree. She swung Soul again at Mantis who dodged it, leaving one of her swords stuck in the trunk of the tree.
Maka was still trying to breathe regularly as Mantis came back at her again, frantically swiping at Maka's body. Maka's eyes followed the sword as it swished back and forth and Maka continually dodged it, narrowly.
Suddenly Maka felt a sharp pain in her left arm, and crimson blood started flowing from her arm. The fear was back again as the same sword that impaled her bit into her skin again. It was hard to breathe and her eyes widened as the sword came at her again, glancing off Soul's blade.
Mantis kicked her body into the nearest tree, and she fell limp, fear spreading like ice over her limbs, making it impossible to move. She didn't even realize she was hyperventilating until she was pulled into the black room and she suddenly felt what breathing normally was like.
Soul, garbed in his handsome black suit with red trim, came rushing to her. She let herself go limp in his arms and he enveloped her in his comforting warmth.
"I'm scared," she whispered against his neck.
"I know," he said into her hair. He pulled her forward and forced her to face him. Emerald met fire and he whispered, "It's ok to be scared. But I'm going to be brave for both of us."
She tilted her head to the side, and suddenly she was thrust back into the real world, with an angry witch gliding towards her.
"Listen to my song," Soul said and he began to play. It was the song that brought her from the brink of death, but it was more than that. Instead of a bleak tone it was filled with hope.
As Maka listened closely to the song she felt her limbs lighten, and suddenly it was as if she had possessed all the courage in the world.
She flung herself at the witch, battle cry racing from her lips. Mantis, startled, backed up, narrowly missing a blow to the neck. She was desperately dodging Maka's swings, and suddenly tripped, falling back and sickly green eyes widening with fear.
"Now you know how it feels," Maka spat down at the fallen witch. "Though, unlike me, you won't be getting up again. Evil witch, Mantis, your soul is mine!"
As the green soul floated in front of Maka she felt Soul's hand slip into hers.
"Thanks, for everything," Maka said, still staring at the crackling green soul.
"Anytime," Soul said, "and Maka, that was pretty cool."
