A/N:Since its been a while since I updated im gonna split this chapter into two parts. The next one should be up soon but I can't make any promises. I don't want to break them, but it is my intention to get this story finished and i finally feel like I've figured out some of the bugs, so to speak.
As always, Inuyasha and its characters are not my own but created by Rumiko Takahashi and written by Katsuyuki Sumisawa.
Enjoy!
The Amanogawa Promise: part 1
Kagome woke to a rustling noise under her sheets and a blinding headache. How much did I have to drink last night and how did I get home? she rubbed at her forehead, trying to bid away the pain. Then she felt a small soft leg brush against her side, and a tiny giggle erupt from under her blankets. The familiar sound of a certain little girls voice brought a playful smile to her face. Kagome quickly flung the blanket in the air to reveal a surprised Rin curled up into a ball. Kagome laughed and lunged at her daughter, tickling and poking and momentarily forgetting about the pain behind her eyes. When all laughing ceased, Kagome asked Rin "So what are you doing in your mommy bed at" she glanced at the clock "7 in the morning?"
"You came in very late last night and it woke me up. Obaa-chan said that I could come and sleep with you. I.. I missed you, mommy." the girl looked up at her mother with round sad eyes. Since filming the show together, they always were around each other. There were few days where she would take time away from her daughter. Who wouldn't want to constantly be around a little bundle of sunshine?
She ruffled her daughters hair and grinned widely as Rin beamed up at her. "Lets get ready to start our day, then!" she picked her daughter up off the bed and placed her gently on her feet. "go pick out some clothes while mommy gets dressed. We have an exciting day ahead of us!" she patted her daughter on the back and the girl skipped out of her room excitedly.
The pervious night..
She hadn't actually been to the tenabata festival for a few years now. Her apartment was actually within viewing distance of the fireworks show, so she and her daughter would just sit on their balcony and watch. It had been hard for her to go out into public since the popularity of 'Inuyasha' had hit full force. But this year certainly was going to be different. Her mother had asked to take Rin out to get "the full experience" rather then being 'cooped up' in Kagome's apartment. Kagome rolled her eyes as the thought of her mother and her insistent personality. She understood that Rin should try to be a normal kid, but her daughter was the furthest away from being big headed, unlike a certain kitsune she knew.
Kagome on the other hand had been invited out by some of the cast to dress up and stroll the streets of Sendai. Although Sango had to stay home with her boys, she had helped Kagome pick out a very lovely, yet simple kimono for this evening and her mother had helped her with the elaborate, traditional hairdo. She figured she would be able to blend in easily with the crowd, as long as the boys kept a low profile. Miroku and Inuyasha were company enough, not to mention their knack for stirring up drama. Those two boys had one of the most interesting relationships she had even seen and she would bet that it was going to be a pretty entertaining night with the two of them.
She heard a rapt on the front door and glanced at the clock. It was 5:30 pm. "That has to be Miroku. Early as always." She spoke to herself, with a knowing smile gracing her features.
She headed out to the hall and picked up her skirts as she started to descend the stairs. When she reached the bottom, she spotted Miroku and her mother chatting enthusiastically. As soon as her heard her walking up to them, he turned and gave her a huge grin. "Lady Kagome, don't you look positively radiant this evening!" he bowed and grab her hand for a quick peck as he continued to beam at her.
"I could say the same for yourself, Miroku-sama. Purple really is your colour." Her eyes quickly scanned his chosen outfit for this evening. A very Regal looking kimono, in purple of course and embroidered simply on either side of his chest with golden dragons and as he spun to give her a better look her eyes popped out at the elaborate golden dragon down the whole of the back. His obi was also gold with purple threading throughout. "So much for blending in, though."
"You know me, darling. I never blend in" He gave her a quick wink and then stepped back a step to get a better look at her furisode. His eyebrows raised as he caught the resemblance and familiarity. She blushed prettily, almost matching the shade of red in her dress. "It's not what you think! It just caught my eye.."
"Yeah? Well I guess we will see what he thinks about it when we get there." Miroku responded slyly.
Her eyes bulged " what do you mean? He's not going with us, is he? I didn't think he would be there!" She floundered.
"Of course he's not coming with us. But he certainly will be there. His family was part of the reason they were able to revive the festival back in the 20's and again after the war. Without their sponsorship the festival would be non existent today. I figured you dressed this way because you knew he would be there hosting some of the events."
Her head bowed as her blush grew deeper. "No… I didn't know. Maybe I should go back up stairs and change.." She turned to her almost forgotten mother. "I'm sure you have something I could borrow just for tonight. Please?"
It was hard to ignore the pleading look in her daughters eyes, but she knew what was best for her daughter. After all, mother always knows. "I'm sorry dear. I stored all of my kimonos a few years back. Even if we could go get them we just don't have the time." she grabbed her daughter by the shoulders and began leading her and her guest towards the door. "Its already almost 6 and Inuyasha is waiting. The boy has no patience so you better hurry on your way now" the reached the foyer and quickly changed their shoes, bade goodbye to her Rin before they even knew what they were doing they were herded out the door and walking away from the house. Miroku looked blankly ahead, dumbfounded. "I don't know what it is about the woman but man is she push-y" Kagome giggled and shook her head, knowing all to well. Miroku smiled to himself. If she keeps up like this Kagome will be off the market in no time. Which would leave dog boy open for business. Speak of the devil.
At the bottom of the steps, Inuyasha rested his back against a post, crossed armed and looking rather impatient as the all knowing Higurashi had predicted. As soon as he picked up their scent he quickly bounded up the stairs.
"Inuyasha! What are you doing here? You were suppose to meet us at the festival." Kagome was starting to sound more and more like her character of late.
"Keh. Like hell I was just going to wait all night for you guys to drag your lazy asses there." he straighten as he notice Kagome's Clothing. "What the fuck is this about?"
She blushed not for the first time this evening. "It was just a coincidence, okay? Sango helped me pick it out. Can you guys just lay off of this?" she was getting frustrated. If it was this obvious to them then she was royally screwed when he finally did see her.
"Ok ok sorry" Inuyasha put his hands up in defence. "I was just wondering is all. Jesh. Don't get your panties in a twist. Besides, the only one who's opinion matters is that douche bag. So we are just going to have to wait and see what he thinks. " She fumed for a moment, and then sighed. He was right; it was her choice and if she had to go down she would go down swinging. She glanced at his outfit for the first time and gaped. He looked downright polished in his simple black kimono and his hair was tied back, pinning down his ears; not currently being able to wear the famous ball cap he always sported in public. "Inuyasha, you cleaned up very nicely" Kagome stated with some shock, Miroku nodding behind her. Inuyasha chuckled as he and Miroku hooked their arms through Kagome's and started on their way. Miroku spoke up. "Well, I guess we're off to see the wizard."
Inuyasha scoffed "Yeah, and maybe you can wish for some brains."
"And you a heart" Miroku scowled at him.
"Can I go back home..?" Kagome pleaded.
They both answered. "No way." Miroku added. "this is going to be too good to miss."
