It took Joan Watson less then a minute to realize that something was wrong. For when she entered the brownstone, the first thing she noticed was the silence. None of the seven TVs were on. "Sherlock?" She called out.

"Over here Watson," said Sherlock. Joan found him lying on the couch tossing a tennis ball in the air.

"What did you do today?" Joan asked.

"I had a visitor early this morning," Sherlock told her.

"Oh? Who was it?"

"Your former paramour, Ty." Sherlock said as he tossed the tennis ball. Joan caught it in mid-air.

"Okay. First off, there was nothing illicit about my relationship with Ty. We were both adults and sure, he can be a major pain in the butt when I tried to tell him that I couldn't talk about my work and he's on his cell.." Joan stopped in mid-rant. "Why are you laughing?" She demanded.

"I'm sorry Watson, but it seems that your rant has only confirmed what I first thought when Ty came over this morning." Sherlock told her.

"What is that, exactly?" Joan asked.

"That he is a highly insecure man with more money than sense. It's one of humanity's little faults, the inablility to appreciate a good thing when it's staring at you in the face."

Joan was suprised. "Why Sherlock, I believe that's the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me."

However, Sherlock wasn't done. "Ty also wanted to know if you and I were romantically involved." He paused to let Joan digest the information.

Joan took a deep calming breath before she said: "One of Ty's biggest issues was seeing me talking with other guys. What did you tell him?"

Hearing this, Sherlock frowned. "I told him that you are sober companion and that I consider you a friend. Has he accused you of cheating?"

Joan snorted. "No. But he did ask a lot of questions the first week I moved here."

"Like I said insecure," said Sherlock flatly. But Joan noticed something in Holmes' tone that made her wonder:

Could it be possiable that Sherlock Holmes had feelings for her?

"There is something else you should know," Sherlock told her.

"What is it?"

"When Ty left the bronwnstone, I felt something unexpected." He paused to collect his thoughts then continued. "It was jealousy."

Joan was floored. "What are you jealous of? Ty? Or my feelings for him?" Sherlock shook his head.

"I'm not jealous of his feelings, but your feelings for him."

"What are you saying, Sherlock?" Joan wanted to sure that she wasn't hearing things. Lucky for her Holmes didn't disappoint.

"What I am saying Joan Watson is that I've come to care about you." Again Sherlock paused. "It is something I thought I would never be able to do."

"Why is that?"

"To care about someone's thoughts and feelings. It's something I've hadn't done since London. If ever." Sherlock confessed.

Again, Joan was surprised by Sherlock's honesty. She blinked back tears and of course, Holmes noticed this as well.

"Don't cry, Joan. Please." Sherlock said. Gently he wiped her tears away, Joan gave him a weak smile.

"I'm sorry," she told Sherlock. "I usually don't get all emotional like this."

"Watson, there is no reason to apologize. You have a right to your feelings the same as anyone else." Holmes told her. "So go ahead and cry, scream if you must. You'll feel better if you do."

"Thanks Sherlock." Joan said with a smile.

"You're welcome, Joan. By the way, are you going to let Ty know you got his message or should I?"

Joan shrugged. "I'll send him an e-mail."

"The 21 century version of the Dear John letter? Why Ms. Watson, I'm shocked."

"It's a lot better then a voice mail," Joan told Sherlock.

"It is indeed," Holmes agreed.
