Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.

That noise was constant as Twilight Sparkle slowly opened her eyes. To Twilight it did not sound familiar at all, in fact she had no idea what was happening, where she was or how she got here. Leaning up from the white clean bed that she was currently residing in she used both fore hooves to remove the tiredness from her eyes, giving Twilight a better view of her surroundings.

The bed she was in was clean and white, and designed like a hospital bed. 'Am I in a hospital' she asked herself as she looked around for more clues about her situation, white hospital curtains surrounding her bed, blocked off her view, so she could not see what was on the other side. 'Yep definitely a hospital' she confirmed to herself.

Lying back into the soft bed Twilight began to think back to her last memory. "I was going to Canterlot… why was I going to Canterlot… ah I remember Princess Celestia summoned me, but I, don't remember" she spoke aloud to herself hoping to jog more memories back. After minutes or hours, Twilight could not really tell without a clock Twilight eventually gave up on remembering, it was a blank. Taking a deep sigh Twilight then started to hear the gentle sounds of snoring. Using her magic Twilight pulled the white curtain on her right to find out who was in the bed beside her.

Much to Twilight's surprise there sleeping within the next bed all cuddled up like a cat was one of her best friends Pinkie Pie. Twilight smiled as Pinkie started moving in her sleep, running like she was chasing something in her sleep. "Oh Pinkie" Twilight giggled to herself as she heard mumbles of a runaway chocolate cake from the sleeping mare.

Moving the curtain back to its original position, Twilight could not get over the feeling of something she was forgetting, something important. Taking a frustrated sigh Twilight looked over to the left at the bleeping machine, but instead what greeted her was a pink pony's white wide, smiling set of teeth. The blue eyes and pink cotton candy bouncy mane confirmed who it was in front of her, it was Pinkie Pie.

"Hi" Pinkie greeted making her smile bigger.

"AAAHHH" Twilight screamed jumping out of bed and falling straight onto the ground.

"It's great to see that you're, awake Twilight" Pinkie said, helping Twilight off the floor and back onto the bed. "You have been asleep for 3 days; I was beginning to think you went into hibernation"

"Pinkie?" Twilight groggily asked "What happened?"

"Don't you remember" Pinkie asked tilting her head at Twilight.

"There was this… singing" Twilight answered her memory fuzzy. "And I was so scared, so alone. So lost"

Pinkie worryingly hugged her friend. "Don't worry Twilight, you will never be scared, alone or lost. Your one of my best friends and it's my duty as a friend to keep you smiling"

Twilight smiled at Pinkie's comforting words. "Thanks Pinkie"

Just as the two friends parted from their hug, the curtain around the bed was pulled by a yellow magical glow, revealing Princess Celestia and her younger sister Princess Luna. "I see you are awake, Twilight" Princess Celestia spoke with a kind smile filled genuine happiness, while her sister, Luna kept her distance and said nothing.

"Princess" Twilight shouted, jumping off the bed, in front of Celestia and bowed. Pinkie meanwhile just shrugged and followed Twilight's example, bouncing off the bed to bow before all Princesses in front of her.

Princess Celestia chuckled at Twilight's bowing. Meanwhile Luna turned around and headed towards the door, back out the way she came in. Luna stopped just as she was about to step out. "Pinkie, may we talk with you".

"Pinkie" Twilight asked surprised turning her head to face her friend, who was already besides Princess Luna.

"Don't worry lady Twilight, we will bring your pink friend back in one piece" Luna spoke.

Once Luna and Pinkie were gone, leaving Twilight and Princess Celestia alone, Celestia sat down beside her student. "It is good to see you have recovered, well Twilight"

"Princess" Twilight began looking up at her mentor. "What happened, I can't seem to remember anything, other than coming to Canterlot".

Celestia hesitated before wrapping a feathery wing around Twilight. "It seems that when you returned back to Canterlot..." Celestia stopped as if thinking her words would do harm. "The remnants of Nightmare Moon tried to return though my sister"

"Nightmare Moon" Twilight gasped worried "But I thought we destroyed her"

"It would seem a part of her survived, and once again tried to corrupt Luna. And she would have completely succeeded if it were not for you and your friend's actions." Celestia smiled, nuzzling Twilight before continuing. "When you both confronted her, you were injured, and Pinkie was able to convince Luna to break Nightmare Moon's hold over her mind. This is what my sister and your friend Pinkie are talking about right now. Luna wants to knight her. But at this moment I am glad that you are fine, and not hurt in any long lasting way" Celestia then pulled Twilight into a deep hug, a hug which Twilight fully accepted with a smile of her own.

Meanwhile, Pinkie and Luna walked the empty corridors of Canterlot Castle. Well Luna walked and Pinkie bounced besides her. "So can you do this Pinkie?" Luna said looking over towards her pink friend.

"I'm not sure" Pinkie true fully answered, stopping her bouncing, in favour of walking during a serious moment.

"I know this is a lot for you to do, especially towards a friend. But like I have said, Twilight must forget"

"But why, surely it is better for her to remember" Pinkie asked her Princess.

"Perhaps, but in the end it would break her heart" Luna told Pinkie, stopping at a balcony overlooking the Canterlot gardens. "I would rather have my daughter have a happy ignorant life, than a sad one knowing who she was. So can you do this task I set before you, Knight Lady Pinkamena Pie?"

Pinkie looked down in deep thought and conflict; it was her family's duty to follow whatever order the princess's commanded of them. But on the other hoof was Twilight, her friend. With a regretful sigh Pinkie said "I accept with a heavy heart".

"Thank you" was the response from Luna, as she began to look over towards the gardens. "You may return back to Twilight, if you wish"

"Good bye Princess Luna" Pinkie said bowing before leaving, but with a slower pace from when she arrived, leaving Princess Luna to her seclusion on the stone balcony.

Luna's loneliness was soon interrupted by a familiar comforting presence. But without turning to look back she began to speak. "She hated me. When she knew, she hated me"

"It would have passed" Celestia responded trying to console her sister, by moving next to her

"Did she ever forgive you" silence made Luna ask again "Did she ever forgive"

"No" was Luna's answer, but as heart breaking as it sounded Luna already knew the answer Celestia spoke.

"In order for my daughter to be truly happy, she must never know that I am her mother."

"But in time she will realise" Celestia told her younger sister. "When her friend's age and she does not"

"Then we will deal with it like you have done for the past thousand years" Luna spoke turning away angry at herself for speaking those words.

"I'm going to go down to the old garden" Luna said making Celestia freeze in surprise.

"Do, do you want me to accompany you" Celestia asked with true concern.

"No I need to do this on my own" Luna responded, stopping to turn her head back towards her sister. "As a mother I can do no less"

Celestia bowed her head towards her sister, understanding her sister's desire. "Very well"

"Thank you sister" Luna thanked her sister as she turned to leave.

Slowly Luna had made her way to the gardens without interruptions. Making her way through the garden maze Luna passed many stone statues among the way, each one she could remember, each one unimportant right now. Luna stopped as she finally found what she wanted. At the middle of the garden maze, Luna noticed that the grass had not grown or been cut for many years. Showing the signs that no pony had touched the ground benign her hooves for many century's. The small area was devoid of anything other than over grown plant life.

Pushing past the overgrown grass and weeds Luna approached a large stone in the middle of the overgrown garden. The stone was a carving of a young earth pony filly; the stone filly had been expertly carved and seemed untouched by time or any of the wild plant life. In fact plant life seemed to avoid the statue filly, not even growing near it.

The stone statue itself was crafted remarkably, not showing signs of aged rock. The filly was crafted to be seen sleeping, its stone tail wrapping around and used as a pillow. Luna smiled as the sleeping stone seemed to be sleeping peacefully.

With a heavy heart and a saddening sigh, Luna placed herself in front of the sleeping statue sitting down before it. As she sat down on the grass Luna noticed a small blue box resting within the stone filly's two fore hooves. It was as if the filly was holding it like a toy, hugging it within its stone sleep.

Luna moved closer to examine the strange thing. She clearly remembered never seeing it there the last time she was here. The box itself was blue, smooth and clearly had a removable lid.

Removing the lid Luna examined the inside of the box. There inside Luna noticed the makings of a music box, but something was missing, a critical part which needed to be fitted inside and attached. Luna pulled back from the box; confused by its purpose and who had placed the thing here of all places in Equestria. But her answers were answered as she discovered engraved writing's on the underside of the blue box's lid.

'To my wonderful enchanting Daughter

May this box sing to your resting slumber and chase away your nightmares

From your loving D-'

The last word had been scratched out only leaving the letter D to be seen clearly within the wooden surface.

A tear dropped unnoticed from Luna's eye as she used her magic to reach for her small music box. With expert control Luna place it within the blue box, with a click sounding to confirm that it was the correct item.

Luna then softly rested her chin on the grass below, just as a soft gentle sound radiated from the blue played a melody, one which Luna knew very well, and one which she hoped to forget entirely. "It's their old music box" Luna told herself softly listening with a tearful face

"I'm sorry, can you ever forgive me" Luna expected no answer from the stone filly; she just hoped the stone filly could hear her somehow where ever she was. "I should have come to see you a long time ago… I was scared, we both were … I just wish that if you were never taken so young, things would have been different" Luna nearly gave out a sob as she wiped away a lose tear with a hoof.

"And for what happened to you, and then to… him" Luna confided into the stone filly. "I hated Celestia for it. It was not her fault, but I blamed her anyway."

"And for that I beg for your forgiveness" Luna begged towards the statue hoping to get a sign of forgiveness from the statue. But nothing came, just silence. Luna's sobbing soon became to an end as Luna stood still teary eyed. "If your sister were here she… I don't know what she would do… but now I have lost her as well".

With a sniff and a wipe of her hoof Luna made towards the exit before turning back to say a good night. "Goodnight my sleeping angel, may your dreams be sweet tonight" and with that Luna left, the music box softly playing into the lonely night.

The End.
