I Love You, Kagome

Kagome looked at Inuyasha and a frown washed away the previous smile. Ever since he had lost Kitala, Inuyasha had never been the same. Though Kagome had wished, more than anything, that Inuyasha would heal and get back to normal, her wishes had proved futile. Nobody talked very much anymore, there were always things to say, but things had changed so dramatically that it almost seemed wrong to talk.

Things were awkward now, not only had Inuyasha lost his love, but Kagome had confessed her love for him. He hadn't said anything about it, maybe he didn't remember it, or maybe he didn't want to. Kagome remembered it, that was the only time Inuyasha had cried on her shoulder.

"Are you okay Inuyasha?" Kagome asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine," Inuyasha said continuing to look out at the lake that sat before him.

"Are you sure?" Kagome asked again.

Inuyasha turned to look at her. "Stop worrying will ya, geesh, it's not like I'm gonna die or anything."

"Okay, okay, you just seemed distracted, that's all," Kagome noted.

"So, is that a problem, or something?" He asked, obviously annoyed.

"No, I guess not," Kagome answered. She sighed and looked down at her hands.

Sango, Mirkou, and Shippo all sat nearby watching the two. The fire flickered as it bit at the fish that hung above, and the sun threatened to fall beneath the distant mountains at any moment.

"Well, at least he's kind of getting back to his old self," Sango said.

"I don't miss the fights though, that's for sure," Shippo added.

"Something tells me that we'll see one soon enough," Miroku said.

"Don't wish that on them Miroku," Sango chided.

Miroku simply shrugged and checked the fish over the fire.

Inuyasha looked up at the darkening sky, where stars started to appear as if someone was calling them out one by one. He took a deep breath and stood up.

"New moon today," Sango observed.

Inuyasha inclined his head and walked over to the fire, where he once again sat down. "Is it done yet? I'm starvin'," Inuyasha asked the monk.

"It's done," Miroku confirmed handing the half-demon a fish decorated stick.

"Thanks," Inuyasha gratefully took the stick and attacked the fish.

After dinner Sango, Miroku and Shippo settled down for the night, while Inuyasha assumed his position in front of the lake, now in full human form. Kagome unrolled her bag and sat down on it, watching the now back haired man. She knew he wouldn't sleep tonight, and she didn't much feel like sleeping either, so she sat, and watched him.

"Kagome," Inuyasha finally said without looking at her.

"Yes Inuyasha?" She got up and walked over to him.

"I've been thinking a lot lately," he said.

"I know," she said taking a seat beside him.

"But not about Kitala," he admitted. "I've been thinking about what you said, the day I sat by her grave."

"Oh." She spoke quietly, and looked down at her hands. "I see. I thought maybe you had forgotten it."

Inuyasha shook his head and looked at Kagome. "I'm sorry I ever hurt you," he said.

"You never..." she started to speak, but Inuyasha interrupted her.

"I know that I hurt you, and I'm sorry," he said again.

"I understand, you didn't mean to."

"Did you really love me the way you said you did?"

"I still love you."

Inuyasha looked back at his sleeping comrades, and a smile touched his lips as he saw Miroku's and Sango's linked hands.

"Inuyasha, what brought all this about?" Kagome asked.

"To be totally honest, this is what's been bothering me for a while. I loved Kitala with all my heart, but even while I was with her, there was always something in the back of my mind. I loved her, don't get me wrong, but she's told me to move on, I can feel her sometimes, and I hear her voice in the breeze every now and then," he told her. "I'm not crazy, so don't look at me like that."

"Inuyasha, what are you getting at?" she asked.

Inuyasha didn't answer, he simply stood and walked into the cold water of the lake. When he was finally waist deep he turned to Kagome and offered his hand to her. A slight breeze washed over him and his eyes closed. Kagome smiled, removed her shoes and socks, and slowly walked out to the lake and took Inuyasha's outstretched hand. The wind stopped and Inuyasha's eyes opened. He smiled at Kagome and pulled her closer to him, his left arm wrapping around the girl's tiny waist.

"Inuyasha?" Kagome breathed quietly, looking up at him curiously.

Inuyasha took a deep breath and let it out slowly. "Close your eyes," he instructed quietly.

"What are you going to do?" Kagome asked cautiously.

"Just do it," Inuyasha said.

"Okay." Kagome closed her eyes.

"Don't open them," Inuyasha told her. The wind picked up again, and swirled around the two in the water. "Do you hear her?"

Kagome listened, and soon a soft whisper hit her ears. "I do."

Inuyasha smiled again and pulled the girl closer to him. "I love you, Kagome."

Kagome opened her eyes and smiled up at her love. "You mean it?"

He nodded, and slowly he moved down and kissed her. While they kissed the sun peaked over the mountains, and Inuyasha returned to normal. They parted and looked at each other.

"Oh Inuyasha," Kagome flung her hands around him and held him tight. "I love you so much."

"I love you too, Kagome."

The wind once again engulfed the two, and a faint female voice said "Well done my love. Well done indeed."

END

Well, there you have it, this is really the end. I just thought that I needed to show that Inuyasha did get over Kitala (not that you really needed to be told, but I thought it would be fun anyway). Please review.

"It's possible," Lita agreed. "But wha
