"I heard you." Sam told Gabriel, when Eclipse was busy holding his grandson.
"No idea what you're talking about." Gabriel said, hint of smile in his eyes.
"Was he an angel?" Sam asked, eyes trained on Eclipse.
"No! He was something more...precious than an angel." Gabriel said, smiling wavering.
"But you said he was cast out." Sam said and watched as tears fell from Gabriel's eyes.
"He was so young when they threw him out. It was after god had cast Lucifer into hell...the angels turned on him. He was almost dead when I found him..." Gabriel stopped talking and looked at Eclipse, who was looking at the angel disapprovingly.
"You have never listened." Eclipse said, anger evident in his posture as he walked towards the arch-angel.
"And I never will." Gabriel said, smirking.
"Eclipse...what happened to you?" Sam asked, turning the demon's focus to him instead. At this point Dean and Castiel were just as curious.
"It was nothing." Eclipse said, putting Asher in his cot and letting the newborn sleep.
"I thought there was no point in lying." Sam said, irritation rising.
"To me, it is the past and therefore, it is nothing."
This was Sam though, and he wouldn't let anything be.
"You know...I remember everything you have ever told me, and every facial expression to everything I explained to you about my past, so I know how to get you to talk, Eclipse." Sam said, walking into the living room, knowing the others would follow to allow Asher some sleep.
"And how is that?" Eclipse asked, truly curious.
"Ruby!" Sam said, looking at Eclipse as his features darkened at the name.
"Sam, don't!" Gabriel said, knowing this to be a very bad idea.
"Ruby!" Sam said again and Eclipse's face contorted with anger.
"Please, don't. You don't know what she's done...just...don't." Gabriel begged, waving his hand and keeping the baby asleep for the duration of his nap. No amount of noise would wake him.
"That's exactly it. I don't know anything...Ruby!" Sam said one more time and Eclipse lost it. He ran towards Sam with determination. Looking the hunter in the eyes, he began tearing up.
"Please, leave this alone." Eclipse begged.
"Why?" Sam asked, not knowing when to leave well enough alone.
"My past is not happy. It is a mess of depression and anguish and pain and suffering." Eclipse said, lowering his head and taking a deep breath.
"And you've been holding all this in for a really long time. It's time to let it out..." Sam said, walking over and holding Eclipse close.
Eclipse sighed and buried his face in Sam's chest. He really didn't want to have to do this. He really, desperately wanted to leave his past buried where it was, but his mate deserved to know and Sam was right, he'd been keeping this in for too long.
"I was born in heaven." Eclipse started, clinging tightly to Sam. "Lucifer and Gabriel doted on me. They loved and cherished me and cared greatly for my well being. Michael and Raphael did not care for me. They thought me an abomination and against the rules. They thought I was wrong in how I came to be.
"Lucifer loved me greatly but Gabriel loved me most of all. He loved me above god, and though other angels shunned him for it, god understood. How could the love Gabriel held for his creator match the love he held for his own son."
Sam's eyes widened but he didn't say anything. He knew if he said anything at all, Eclipse would stop talking and that would be the end of it.
"I was bullied by the other angels do to my different standing in heaven. I was different, I wasn't an angel in the proper sense, I was something different...stronger and yet fragile. I had power, but my physical strength was poor.
"It was hard for Gabriel and Lucifer, keeping me and my brother, Sariel, safe and alive, but they would have done anything to keep their children safe, even if it meant killing their own kind. We were precious to them...they had created and birthed us...they would not allow harm to come to us.
Eclipse sighed and turned to Dean and Castiel, who seemed to be having trouble calming Asher down.
"He's hungry dearest." Eclipse informed before letting Sam go and taking a seat on the floor, picking at the carpet slightly.
Dean went to prep a bottle while Eclipse continued his story.
"I made a friend one day...we weren't allowed to interact but I couldn't allow her to be so alone. She was locked up as a deformed angel, one with too many flaws to allow free...she was to be the angel of mercy but in her creation she was given too much free will and her grace had twisted and become marred with envy and so to spare the others her faults, god had locked her up...and I had found her.
"Her name was Ruby and she was beautiful and I had loved her as no one else had. I had been bullied for so long I believed I understood her strife and wished to help her through her problems. I gave her all I was and all I would become in order to free her from her prison and my falling came soon after.
"She had tricked me...I was so young I had not understood her intentions...but the moment she was freed..." Eclipse wiped at his tear stained face before continuing.
"Lucifer took me aside and covered for me...he told the others how he had freed Ruby...do to the injustice he believed they had committed against her...Gabriel...he refused to let me go. He was so worried about what would happen to me if the angels got hold of me...
"I was petrified in fear as I watched the others crowd around my family...my father and my mother...holding me back...trying to keep me safe.
"Ruby...she found our home...she broke in and she killed my brother...Sariel died that day. She told me, later, that she had wanted to be mine and my brother would be in the way.
"Lucifer lost his mind and attacked every angel that came near us, trying to protect the rest of his family but he was cast out for it and I was brought before god for punishment...I was sent to hell for my betrayal...I was cast out, as was Ruby...I was thrown from my home and hell followed my every step. I lost many of my powers but my body strengthened as it morphed into a demon, an original demon..."
Eclipse hung his head and took a deep breath. He wouldn't say anymore today, Sam was sure of it.
Sam couldn't quite think of something to say, he had no idea what there was to say. He wanted to hold his demon, but knew Eclipse wouldn't want to be held. Looking up, Sam saw Gabriel with tears in his eyes and a sad smile on his face.
"Who...Mother?" Dean asked, watching Castiel feed their son.
"That would be me Dean-o."
And the room went silent.
