SUMMARY

Pitch is ready to rise again. But he knows he first needs to deal with Jack Frost in order for his plan to work. Now he is going to pay him a visit.

Jamie is 16 years old. He meets up with Jack on the forest and have a snowball fight. When Jamie was about to leave he thinks he sees a cloud of black sand approaching. Jack tells him to go home, that he'll take care of it.

Jack fights with Pitch and his army of nightmares, but he got tired during the fight and didn't notice Pitch behind him. He stabs Jack on his left side. He looses consciousness and Pitch leaves him for dead taking the, now glowing blue, knife and Jack's staff.

Jamie never left to his house and watched the whole thing. He went to Jack's aid. With the help of a man, they take him to the hospital. Some changes are happening to Jack. Jamie is worried for min.

Still, Jack hasn't woken up. Some days later, Jack wakes up, confused and tries to leave the hospital in the middle of the night. They sedate him and put him under.

The next day, Jamie comes by and by then Jack wakes up. They talk about what happened and the changes he is enduring.

They realize Jack's human.

Chapter 9 – Out Of The Hospital

Jack hardly had any sleep that night. He was thinking of the events that had happened. Now that he really thought about it, it seemed that he was human.

He felt warmth, which was still a new experience for him. After not feeling it for so long, he realized he forgot how it actually was. Even if he remembered the time when he was human, the feeling was lost. But still, he liked this new feeling. He had wondered how heat felt before.

Another fact that confirmed his theory of being human was that he couldn't feel his powers anymore. Before, that icy feeling inside of him was always there. Deep inside. Like some kind of freezing core. But now, it was empty. Rather than empty, it was gone. It had happened before when he was weaker that his core was drained but he could feel it. But now, well, we couldn't fill it anymore.

That's when the questions started popping in his head. Was he ever going to get his powers back? What if he remained as a human forever? Was he going to finally grow up? Had he been given an opportunity to a second chance on life? What was going to become of him now?

These questions and so many more came by. But he had no answers to any of them. He just sighed in frustration. This whole situation was a lot to take in. Finally, sleep and tiredness took it's toll on him and he finally decided to give in, letting his dreams overtake him.

The next day, Jamie left his house on the morning to go to school. He was excited knowing that Jack would be finally allowed to go home. Actually he was happier because nothing bad happened to him, not counting the fact he was human. But still, he was happy he had his best friend.

Before he left his house he made sure to pick up some of the clothes he didn't use to give them to Jack. He knew that Jack didn't have any more clothes with him and he couldn't leave the hospital with only a pair of pants and bare feet. So, thinking in advance he took one shirt, a loose jacket, similar to his hoodie, and a pair converse shoes. He put them inside his backpack and took off.

He went to school. They day was boringly slow. Nothing new. It seemed longer than a week. It felt like it was done on purpose. On the last period, he had the test for which he couldn't study that much. He was at least a 70% sure that he was going to fail. But it didn't matter to him. The safety of his friend was more important. He finished his test, well most of it and went outside just a few minutes earlier before the bell rang.

He went to the hospital and went directly into Jack's room. As soon as he opened the door he was surprised to find Jack standing by the window looking outside. He was a little hunched over and had his hand on his side. He was surprised that Jack seemed so serious so… not like himself. Actually he couldn't remember any time seeing Jack like this. He knew that he could be serious from time to time, but he never actually showed it. Also, it was so different and so unfamiliar looking at Jack with dark brown hair and eye color.

Jamie waited a few seconds until Jack gave out a heavy sigh and turned around with a small smile on his face. He had little bags under his eyes, but otherwise he seemed fine.

"Jack, are you ok? Could you rest last night?"

"Yeah I am fine but I couldn't get too much sleep last night." Jamie frowned in confusion. "I was not that tired" He lied. Actually Jack was not tired. He was exhausted. As a matter of fact, he didn't want to tell Jamie about what was really happening. What was keeping him from sleeping. Nightmares.

The nightmares woke him up. Over and over again. After the third time, Jack gave up and decided to stay awake the rest of the morning throughout the day until Jamie came.

Jamie moved forward and laid his backpack on the bed. Curios, Jack leaned closer. Then Jamie took the clothes and handed out to him.

Jack looked at him in confusion. Jamie told him that now that he was human, he needed to have proper clothes on and it was still freezing cold outside. Jack took a moment to gather the things and put them on. He first put on the t-shirt. At least he tried. With his side wounded, he couldn't lift his arm properly. Jamie gave him a hand. Jack looked at himself in the small mirror and then at Jamie with a weird smile on his face. He felt so weird. The worst feeling were the dark blue converse. He hasn't worn shoes since more than three hundred years! It was like his feet were trapped and contained. Jamie looked at him and laughed softly at his face.

"Don't worry, you'll get used to them". Jack lifted his face and looked at Jamie and smiled his usual smile. At least the old Jack is emerging again. Jamie grabbed his backpack. Jack looked at himself again. He looked as if he was Jamie's brother or cousin. They were very much alike. With the brown hair and eyes, plus they had a very similar body shape.

They exited the room and went down the elevator to the ground floor. Jamie walked to the receptionist desk and asked about checking Jack out. She told them to wait and called a doctor to give him some advise to keep an eye on the wound.

After the doctor came, Jamie and Jack left with a piece of paper with a few steps to follow just in case in anything happened.

They waved the nurse that had been taking care of Jack and exited the building. As soon as the hospital doors opened, a cold breeze made it's way inside the building. Jamie was used to the cold feeling but when he looked at Jack he was taken by surprise.

He had his hands on his pockets and he lowered his head as much as he could into the jacket. He had to suppress a laugh but failed.

"Oh my!" Jack was shaking now. "Is this how cold normally feels!?"

"Yeah, its always like that. I would tell you that you get used to it but I'd be lying."

"Brrrrr. I have no idea how you cope with this" Jamie smiled.

"Do you want my jacket will we get home? It's a short walk but I see that it's colder for you than me"

"No no, it's okay. I can do it." Jack had his hands crossed over his chest. He couldn't believe he could be this cold. And what worried him was the fact that it wasn't even that cold. Just a few degrees below 0. What happened if he had to go somewhere with a colder temperature? He pushed that thought away. First of all, he didn't even want to think about it and second, he didn't have his staff to just fly off wherever he wanted to.

He felt so strange. Not having his powers was weird enough. Plus, his staff was missing. His hands felt empty. He had never let go of his staff. It was the source which channeled his icy and flight powers. He couldn't do anything without it. And now it was gone, it was just -

"Hey! Watch it kid! See where you are going." Jack's line of thought was interrupted when he bumped into someone and he let out a low hiss. The wound protesting. He was so immersed in his thoughts that he didn't think of the fact that he wasn't invisible anymore. Wow. Now everybody could se him. He was not sure if they liked that or not.

"Jack are you okay? Are you hurt?" Jamie asked worried.

"No, no. I'm... I'm fine. It just hurt a little bit. Let's go." Jamie didn't look convinced. Jack smiled and started walking. They were quiet all the way in an awkward silence but none would break it.

Finally, after 5 more minutes they reached Jamie's house. He took out his key and opened the door gesturing Jack to come inside.

Jack wouldn't admit it but he was really happy when he entered inside. The cold feeling leaving him. He was glad that warmth embraced him and took the coldness with it. It was a really nice feeling. How he missed that feeling. He turned around when Jamie spoke.

"My mom and sister will be here in a few hours. Do you want to lie down a bit before dinner? That way I can talk to them into the situation and everything so they don't ask too many questions. We'll have to come up with a story to tell them"

"Yeah, that would be nice. And umm, I'll just think of something later"

"Great" Jamie smiled. He started going up the stairs and Jack followed.

"My mom prepared the room for you. I told her that you were alone for the moment and needed a place to stay." Jamie opened the door and they both stepped inside.

Jack looked his surroundings. It was a small room with a single bed. It also had a desk with a few books on it. He also saw a small pile of clothes on the bed.

"I left you some of my old clothes that I don't use anymore for you to use. I'll be downstairs if you need anything." Jack smiled at him.

Jamie turned to leave.

"Jamie?" He stopped with his hand on the door's handle. "Thanks for doing this for me." Jamie smiled and nodded. He then closed the door. Jack could hear the sound of his steps as he went downstairs. He sat on the bed slowly and started taking his shoes off. He then laid down and closed his eyes.

Jamie went downstairs and went to the kitchen. He took his books and stuff from school to catch up with some homework he had to do. After and hour, his mom with Sophie came inside. He was surprised they were home early.

"Hey mom. Hey Soph"

"Hey Jamie. How was school today?"

"Great. Hey mom, listen. Remember they friend I told you about?"

"Oh yeah, the one who is coming over?"

"Yeah him. Well, I got out of school early today and went to the hospital. After we checked out, we came here so he's already upstairs, but he is sleeping now."

"Who is him again Jamie? Sophie asked. Jamie's brain was overthinking of an excuse to tell them that would answer very general and common questions.

"Like I told mom, he is new in school and doesn't have many friends. He is quite shy so please don't ask too many questions in one night. He also is recuperating from his injury so be careful with him."

Sophie just shrugged and went to the living room to watch something on the TV. Jamie's mom took out some things from the fridge to make dinner and Jamie sighed that they didn't question him further. He concentrated again on his homework.

Jack was having a hard time trying to sleep. He was tossing and turning, not to much because of his wound. He was having nightmares yet again. Nightmares about his last encounter with Pitch. The time he was stabbed. Pain. Lots of pain. It was hard to breathe. These nightmares were like a playback of his memories of the time but they ended differently. Much differently. In his dreams, scratch that, nightmares, after the stab, before he felt his life being taken away from him, he saw Pitch and a whole bunch of nightmares going after Jamie. Pitch turned around with a deadly smile. He looked straight into his eyes. He could hear Jamie panting in the distance from running and finally a scream was the only thing he heard.

Then nothing. Jack wanted to go and help Jamie but when he tried to stand he found out he couldn't. it felt like his feet were glued to the floor. He looked to the floor and instead of being snowy white, it was dark red. He felt his energy slowly draining away. His life force being taken away from him. He took the last amount of energy he had and called out his name, but there was no answer.

"Jamie?"

"Jamie!?"

He started breathing hard.

"Jamie please! Answer me!"

His surroundings where becoming darker and darker as every long second passed by.

"You call yourself a Guardian?" Pitch's echo surrounded him. Jack looked around, trying to find the source of the voice but couldn't find it's owner. Fear was now starting to show, and even confusing made way into his eyes. "You can't even protect one simple life, how do you expect to stand up for the children all around the world?"

Jack gasped as he woke up. He jolted upwards only stopping as his side protested to the sudden movement. He was covered in sweat and breathing heavily. Why did he had stupid nightmares? He got angry to himself, but then he started replaying the events of his mind and realized just one tiny little thing.

Pitch was right.

He couldn't do anything now. He was just human. He couldn't fight. He couldn't do anything. He was useless. What was he going to do? What was he going to say to the Guardians? Could he just hide all his from them? Truth be told, he felt ashamed. Now he was nothing compared to them. He was just normal. Ordinary.

Knock Knock.

He looked up to the door waiting for someone to come in. As nobody did, he answered.

"Umm come in"

The door's handle turned and Jamie came in.

"Hey Jack. How did you sleep?" He asked.

"Hey um great." He lied yet again. He didn't like lying to Jamie but he didn't want to bother him with silly things like nightmares.

"Awesome. Just wanted to tell you that dinner will be ready in 15 minutes if you want to come down"

"Oh, I don't think I'll eat anything but I'll join you"

"Okay, see you downstair" The door closed and Jack sighed. He hoped that dinner wouldn't be too long

Pitch was back on his lair. His nightmares welcoming his return. He made his way through the shadows and sat on his throne and relaxed closing his eyes. Soon enough a smile made it's way on his face. His actions were going according to his plans.

Jack Frost was gone. Finally gone. It had felt so good to do that to him after everything he had put him through. He waited patiently to strike and now that he did, Jack was dead.

With him out of his way, the Guardians were not going to stop him. And even better, he had another trick up his sleeve.

He opened his eyes and looked at the knife in his hand. It had a glowing blue light. Power. And to be precise, Frost's powers. This was going to help him in making his fearlings stronger and very hard to get rid off.

He stood up, and started to set things into motion. The Guardians will never know what hit them.
