Starfire entered the ops room at about noon and frowned. No one was in there. 'Where has everyone gone off to?' She thought to herself as she walked around looking for a note of some kind. Giving up, she walked over to the kitchen for breakfast. She opened the refrigerator and only saw leftover pizza and their iconic blue goo. Her stomach growled and she groaned.
"Maybe I could venture to the place of pizza." She said as quickly went to her room. A few moments later she emerged from the tower dressed in a purple sun dress. Starfire landed in front of the pizza place. Her smile turned into a frown when she opened the door. "Our date wasn't until tomorrow night cutie." A voice called out and she rolled her eyes.
"I never agreed to such a thing." She shot back as she walked past him. He smirked as he walked behind her. Starfire choose a booth a bit away from the commotion of the restaurant. She glared at him when he sat down across from her.
"What's your favorite?" He asked as he lazily flipped through the menu. "Ahem." Starfire said as she looked at him over her menu.
"What?", he asked sniffing himself by lifting up his arms one by one, "I don't stink do I? You've got your menu up like I stink."
"You are aware that I came here alone?" She asked and he shrugged.
"But you're not alone now so that doesn't really matter." He said as he went back to looking at the menu. "I'm feeling a supreme what about you?"
Starfire stared at him. 'He does not realize...?' She thought to herself as she put the menu down. "Please leave me be." She stated.
"I'll leave when you give me a reason to." He said nonchalantly. "Then you shall be paying for my meal." She said and he grinned.
"And now it's officially a date." Starfire rolled her eyes again.
"Something of that nature I suppose." Starfire mused.
"So whaddya wanna eat?" He asked as he put his menu down. She started rambling off the toppings she wanted.
"And I'd like an individual pizza to bring home to my friends." He stared at her blankly.
"I don't have that much money to spend on pizza babe." He admitted and she smirked.
"Then I suppose this isn't a date if are not going to buy me lunch." She stated and he rolled his eyes. "It'll more like a lunch between friends than a date." She added.
"So we're friends now?" He asked as the waiter returned. "And what would you guys like?"
"A large with bacon and sausage." He said. "And a bottle of mustard." Starfire added and smiled at her new friend.
Meanwhile .
Robin threw a few bird a rangs at the running thief.
"Let's not over do it guys." He called back to his team. The bird a rangs exploded around the thief and the smoke caused him to begin to cough.
He looked away as Beast Boy and Cyborg went at the thief using their 'combo moves'. He pondered on whether it was the right decision to leave Starfire rather than waking her up and dragging her along. 'Hope she appreciates it.' He thought as Raven finished the villain off.
His team was quietly falling apart. Beast Boy and Starfire weren't talking to him or Raven, Raven never really spoke to anyone and Cyborg was tipping toeing through it all. He couldn't stand by and wait for everything to fix itself either. "Earth to Robin." Cyborg called out to the boy wonder.
"The cops are here now." Robin nodded. "Sorry. " He mumbled as his eyes looked towards the men in uniform.
"I think they can handle it from here." Robin stated towards his team. "Let's get pizza."
Three pairs of eyes stared at their leader bewildered.
"Well, I can't say no to pizza." Cyborg said as Beast Boy nodded happily. "I'm starved anyway." Beast Boy added and Raven shrugged her shoulders as she followed behind them.
Meanwhile .
Laughter died down as a man continued his story.
"So I was just standing there with my niece still holding my hand while this guy was just going crazy over the balloon." He said as his tablemate took another sip of her odd drink.
"And then of course the balloon pops." Starfire almost lost it. Her eyes teared up as she laughed. "One large with sausage and bacon." Their waitress said as she set the pizza down between them.
"Could I have a refill?" He asked as the waitress grabbed both their cups. "Another mustard for you I assume?" She asked and Starfire nodded happily.
"So, Starfire, what brings you here all by yourself?" He asked as he grabbed a couple of slices.
"I should be the one to ask you that Xavier." She replied as she too grabbed some food. "Me?" He repeated as he took a bite and she nodded.
"I'm a 23 year old bachelor. I have every right to be here getting pizza." He said and she rolled her eyes.
"And why am I not granted the same right as you?" She asked. He looked up from his food at her, then looked around before returning his gaze to her.
"You're not a 23 year old bachelor too are you?" He whispered as he leaned closer to her.
"Not that I know of." She replied as he chuckled. She joined in his chuckling shortly after, finally seeing what he saw was humorous about her reply.
"Well, I don't know, you tell me why I have a right to casually stroll in here for pizza and you don't." He said before taking another bite.
"There is no reason." She replied and he shrugged. "It's just odd that a superhero came in here so casual." He said.
"So was I suppose to partake in the being rowdy and demand a pizza?" She asked and he chuckled while shaking his head.
"No, you're like a celebrity. Celebrities don't come in nonchalantly and get pizza." He replied and she shrugged.
"Well I do and I do it quite often." She declared as she grabbed the last slice. He looked from his plate, to hers, and to the now empty pan.
"I only had like three." He stated and she shrugged. "I ate the rest." She said as she finished the last slice.
"I can see that now." He said and her eyes widened. She grabbed the pizza pan and put it in front of face. "What's wrong?" He asked as he looked where her eyes just were.
"Oh it's your friends." He said turning back around. "What? You don't want them to see you?"
"It is not me but it is you." She replied and he scoffed. "No not in that way. I do not believe it will be very unhelpful to my team's friendship with one another for them to see me with you." She quickly explained. He didn't really care how her friends saw him but he did care for her well being.
"Get under the table." He suggested and she put the pan down. "Why would I do that?" She asked and he grinned at her. "Just do it, I'll help you get outta here undetected." He explained as she shook her head.
"I do not want you to be 'mixed in' with my life." She replied and he chuckled.
"It's my choice on whether or not to help so think of it as I'm choosing to help you. Besides, you help everyone, somebody has to help you for once." He said and she smiled. She didn't know why, but he was making her heart flutter again. She nodded as she slid under the table. "So our secret word is gonna be 'FLY'. When you hear it, it means you can get up and leave and the titans won't notice you." He explained.
"Understood." She said and he got up. He turned towards his target.
'Just what is it that I am doing.' Starfire thought to herself as she pulled her knees to her chest. This was the second time she was acting out with someone her teammates didn't approve of. She had sat and ate lunch with Xavier, a complete stranger. She did enjoy herself more than she had intended to, but was that really a bad thing? It's not like there's anyone else taking her to lunch and giving her a good time.
She slowly peered out from under table as she heard Beast Boy's voice. Across the restaurant, a commoner was keeping the Titans busier than usual. Xavier grabbed a random pan of pizza and frisbee'd it to the team of superheroes.
"Dude!" Beast Boy exclaimed as Raven was covered in cheese and sauce. Cyborg held back his laughter as Raven turned towards Xavier. "What's your problem!?" She yelled as Xavier grinned at them.
"It's the Titans everyone! Am I really the only one excited here?" He asked looking around at the customers. "Sorry I didn't know of any other way to get you guys' attention." A little girl squealed in reply to his statement. "Mom it really is them!" The girl yelled pulling on her mother's arm. The said mother sent daggers at the Titans. Robin smiled back.
"Let's just get to a table." He said quietly to his team. All of a sudden, the little girl got a burst of energy and ran towards the Titans.
The mother jumped up and attempted to follow. The mother bumped into a waitress with a tray of three small pizzas. The three small pizzas went airborne into the face of another waitress who was wiping off a table. That waitress fell backwards and tripped a man on his way to his table. The Titans hurried to help all the fallen people in the restaurant. "Don't forget they can fly!" Xavier shouted out of context, earning a few confused looks from other customers.
Starfire crawled from under the table and looked around. The tripped man had fallen into a table of pizza, successfully knocking the table over. An oblivious waiter slid on a pizza on the ground, sliding into an elderly woman. Starfire stood hunched over as she quickly made her way towards the door. She twirled around all the chaos and exited the restaurant. In the open air, she took off to the sky.
