Jethro and the Cross Dresser
"Hey Jethro" Ellie May whistled "Gee Golly, she's a looker!"
Ellie was staring at an 8x10 glossy photo of a gorgeous woman.
"Ain't she though" Jethro puffed up with pride "and we's going out again tonight."
"Well, where'd ya meet her?" Ellie asked.
"Miss Hathaway took me to a fancy dress show, where a bunch of be-u-ti-ful gals pranced around and sung to us!" Jethro was smiling as he remembered.
"Ain't Miss Hathaway nice?" Ellie looked happy too. "Can I go to the fancy show?"
"Nah, Ellie, it was just a bunch of boys watching." Jethro shook his head.
"But Miss Hathaway is a girl." Ellie argued. "You better let me go or I'll wrestle you six ways from Sunday."
Jethro looked scared. "Well, Okay, but don't say nuthin to my gal."
That night Miss Hathaway picked them up in her convertible. She held the steering wheel tightly since she had forgotten the gloves she wore most of the time.
"Hey, Miss Hathaway" said Jethro "you's got big hands for a girl!" "Kinda like my new gal friend"
Miss Hathaway curled her huge feet on the floor boards. "Why Jethro," she changed the subject by quoting Shakespere. "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet."
"Ma says ladies always likes roses!" "Let's get us some at that flower shop." Jethro pointed to a store on Wilshire Boulevard.
Miss Hathaway pulled in. As she walked in the flamboyant owner called out "Jim, long time no see!" Ellie and Jethro looked around to find Jim. Bill the owner came around the counter and hugged Miss Hathaway. "You're lookin fierce girl." He stood back and looked. "You pass, Miss thing."
Jethro and Ellie looked confused. "Why Miss Hathaway wouldn't hurt a flea, sir." Ellie was indignant. "She ain't fierce no how."
Bill stood back and looked at Ellie, then at Jethro. "Who, pray tell, is this hunk of manhood, Jim?"
Miss Hathaway looked at Jethro "This my dear sir, is Jethro Bodine, nephew of one of the richest men in Beverly Hills." "and a fine young man."
Jethro piped up "And we's on our way to see my sweetie at the," he paused "what's the name of that fancy sittin down place we's goin to?" he asked Miss Hathaway.
"The Diva Dancehall, Jethro." Miss Hathaway smiled as Bill looked envious.
"Well, have a good time, and say hi to Butch for me." Bill waved.
"Well, what does he look like so we can say hi fer ya?" Ellie was always polite.
"She's the one in the sequined blue ball gown, can't miss her, she's 6 foot 2 and wears a diamond tiara." Bill grinned. "she'll be singing "Somewhere over the Rainbow."
Jethro scratched his head and had a puzzled look on his face. "Hey, that's what my gal was wearing…. And singin…..but Butch ain't her name, she dun told me to call her Judy!"
