As Dany was in her room, getting ready for the party that night, she got a call from Cersei. She thought it was odd, because Cersei usually texted her, but she answered it anyway.
"Hello?" said Dany.
"Dany! First of all, what are you wearing tonight? Pleeeease don't look like a slut… That would be embarrassing." Without waiting for an answer, Cersei continued, "oh and also, why did Marge tell me that she saw you hanging out with that bastard what's-his-face and Tyrion?"
Dany could hear the cold tones in Cersei's voice. Shoot. She thought no one had saw her at the diner… There were only a few younger kids in there.
"Oh, yes, well, Tyrion just wanted to talk to me about running for student council! I thought it might be fun. But he's totally weird. I'm not gonna do it."
Silence on Cersei's end.
"Really," continued Dany. "They're lame, ok? Hopefully they won't be at the party tonight," although she knew they would. Tonight was when her, Jon and Tyrion talked about finally starting to bring down Cersei.
"Seriously," said Cersei, finally. "If they are, we will leave, duh. But stop talking to them. You look like a loser."
"Where is it again?" asked Dany. "The Frey's house?"
"Yep," she answered. "On Twins Boulevard. Oh, also, are you totally mad at Marge for trying to make you look bad? She made it sound like you were being way more sketchy than just talking about student council… that was pretty bitchy of her."
Oh gods, thought Dany. "Oh… yes, it was, bitchy, but whatever. Maybe she just wants attention." Dany heard a faint gasp and then a "shhhh" on Cersei's line. Marge was on a secret conference call.
"Yeah! You're totally right. She always does that. Okay I'll see you later!" Cersei hung up.
Well, that was just very inconvenient. Dany needed Marge to be on her good side, especially tonight. She decided to call Marge separately… Hopefully she wouldn't play the same trick Cersei had just played. She dialed Marge's number and waited for the phone to pick up…
"Helloooo," sang Marge's high voice.
"Marge. It's Dany."
"Ugh, what, Dany."
"I'm sorry I called you bitchy on the phone with Cersei," said Dany.
"What! What do you mean, what phone call-"
"Marge. Come on. Neither of us is as dumb as Cersei thinks we are."
"She doesn't think that I'm dumb!" exclaimed Marge.
"Okay," replied Dany thoughtfully. "Maybe not. Oh, by the way, that's really cool that you're going to homecoming with Joff! Cersei said you basically told him to ask you, and that you'd be really easy to-"
"What!" said Marge shrilly. "Okay, no, he hasn't asked me, but he totally will… Why would Cersei make that up?"
"Uh, I don't know! Doesn't matter, does it? I didn't even hear it from her! I heard it from someone else… Anyway, I'll see you at the party, ok? I just wanted to say that I'm sorry, and that it's totally cool that you told Cersei I was talking to Tyrion.. It was nothing anyway! Bye!" Dany hung up abruptly.
Dany finished getting ready for the party, picked up Drogo, and headed over to the Frey's. They got there a little bit late, but the party was already going. It felt like the whole school was there, but the whole school definitely wasn't invited. This wasn't just a cool kids party, this was everyone. She and Drogo walked in, got a drink and started scoping everything out. She didn't see Cersei or Marge there yet, but she did spot Sansa sitting over in a corner by herself. Dany walked over to her.
"Hey Sansa! This is pretty fun, huh? I've never been to a party like this before."
Sansa rolled her eyes. "Ugh, Dany, welcome to the real world. Have you seen Cersei or Marge?"
Why Sansa still wanted to hang out with them, Dany did not know. "Um, no I think they are coming a little bit later, with Jaime and Joff…" This comment made Sansa outwardly upset. She frowned. "You know," continued Dany, "Joff isn't really that great. I mean, he's not so good to you, is he? If he keeps cheating on you, you should just let him go."
Sansa's face softened a bit. "He's the only person that keeps me hanging on to our friends. I don't know what Cersei has against me." The girl looked like she was about to cry. "She just always leaves me out of things, and she's so mean to Robb. I don't get it."
Dany smiled softly. "Let me tell you a secret, Sansa. I don't think she's that great either."
"Then why do you hang out with her? Why does anyone?"
"I really don't know, Sansa," said Dany. "I mean, nobody really knows that she's the worst, right? Nobody really knows what she has done?"
Sansa gave Dany a dark look. "No. Everyone's too afraid to tell Cersei's secrets."
Aha! Cersei's secrets. This is what Tyrion had hinted at, too. Dany had guessed from her and Tyrion's conversation, but she wanted to hear it from Sansa too. Sansa had more to play in this than Dany had thought. As Cersei's ex-best friend, Sansa might even be better than Marge in this, since Sansa has nothing to lose.
"Okay," said Sansa. "Come here." She pulled Dany close and whispered her Cersei secret into Dany's expectant ear.
Dany smiled and looked at Sansa. "She's awful, right? This is why I'm here! Okay, do not tell her that you told me. Just wait and see what happens."
Satisfied with her information, Dany went back over to Drogo, but she also saw Cersei and Marge standing at the drink table. Priorities. She walked over to Cersei and Marge.
"You guys look cute!" said Dany.
"Um, duh, thanks," said Cersei. Marge nodded.
"Ew. Dany. Seriously. Did you bring him?" She nodded over to Drogo. "And what is he wearing. Does he own anything besides those stupid horse shirts?"
"He's nice, ok!" said Dany. Cersei just would not let up on him!
"Dany, it's just embarrassing. It's almost cute how you don't get it. Whatever. I'm going to get a drink." She grabbed Jaime's hand and walked over to the punch bowl. Marge was still standing there.
"Hey, Dany. Do you see Joff?" asked Marge.
"Uhh, I think I saw him go upstairs?" Dany lied. "Go check there!" Marge bounced off and walked up the stairs.
Sansa was still sulking in the corner. Jaime and Cersei were sitting on a couch playing a drinking game with the host, Wally Frey. Drogo was in the backyard, talking to Tyrion. Apparently Jon decided not to come, because he was no where to be found. Dany walked around to the other side of the house. A lot of people waved and smiled at her as she walked by. She didn't really know any of them. She recognized their faces, but that's about it. Did people already know who she was? She started chatting with a group of girls.
Those were the benefits of being one of Cersei's little minions after all. That was the whole point.
She found Drogo again, and determined to have some fun, she brought him over to the room where people were dancing. Robb was dancing some funky moves by himself in the middle of a dance circle. Marge had apparently found Joff and was dirty dancing with him over in a corner. Even Sansa was looking chipper and fun. She smiled at Dany and continued dancing with Marge's gay best friend, Loras. The only people not to be found were Jaime and Cersei. After a nearly an hour of hanging out on the dance floor, she pulled Drogo aside and plopped down on a chair. Dancing was hard work. Drogo excused himself to go the bathroom, which was locked, so he proceeded to go use the one upstairs. 30 seconds later, he was back at Dany's side, with a big grin on his face.
"What happened?" Dany frowned.
"Oh my gods. Oh shit. Just walked in on Cersei and Jaime hooking up big time in the upstairs bathroom. That was something I never want to see again." He grinned. So did Dany. Tyrion had told Drogo Cersei's little secret as well. Then, he pulled out his phone and started a group text with someone in just about every clique at the school, and sent a picture he had apparently taken of Cersei and Jaime kissing in the upstairs bathroom. The picture caption read: "These two are cousins, y'all!" Uh oh. Dany wished Drogo would have waited until after the party to make that little announcement. A few minutes later, Cersei walked downstairs, looking a little bit disheveled. Sansa saw her, and giggled.
Drogo walked up to her, slightly intoxicated, and said, "Hey. Toooottally just saw you and-" Cersei slapped him in the face.
"Shut up and mind your own business, dweeb," Cersei snapped. She then walked out to make a phone call, came back in two minutes later, grabbed Marge and left.
A few minutes later, everyone heard some sirens outside, and a police officer came and busted the party. He had also gotten a tip that someone named Drogo had brought an illegal substance to the party. Unfortunately, for Drogo, the tip was right, although he had brought hardly anything to the party. Just a little. Dany knew exactly who had called to bust the party as well as tip off the officier, and she had juuuust left. Drogo had to be picked up at the police station, and his parents were so mad at him, that they decided to pull him out of West Terros for the semester and send him away, or home school him. In any case, he was totally grounded from ever seeing Dany. Dany knew that Cersei did that to first of all, torment her, and second of all, Drogo told everyone her secret. Maybe that's what happened to her cousin Rhaegar.
The next week at school was homecoming queen nominations. When Dany first saw Cersei on Monday morning, she acted like nothing unusual had happened over the weekend. She chattered about what dress she would be wearing at homecoming and if Joff would actually ask Marge to the dance already and what a sorry sob Sansa looked like at the party over the weekend. Dany couldn't take this much longer anymore… Good thing homecoming was only a week away. She hated Cersei for getting Drogo in trouble. Sansa hated her for all but kicking her out of their friend group. Marge was starting to lose it, because Cersei's homecoming anxiety was taken out on Marge and telling Marge every little small thing she did wrong. Cersei, while a little bit more jittery than normal, seemed relatively unphased. She just kept talking to people about how stupid druggies like Drogo make up the dumbest rumors. People would give her weird looks, but not weird enough to do make much of a difference in Cersei's daily life. Everyone was still intimidated by her.
Nominations were that Monday at lunch. Anyone could go up to the table that Tyrion was sitting at and cast their vote for homecoming queen. The top three votes would be one of the three potential winners, which would be announced at lunch the following Friday, with the king and queen announcement at the game. Dany, Cersei, Marge and their entire little group were all sitting together, as people walked up behind their table to cast their vote. If Cersei thought Dany was a threat for homecoming queen, she didn't show it. She acted perfectly cordial to Dany, who acted perfectly normal back. Maybe a little on the cold side. The day went by uneventfully, and after school, Dany found Tyrion and Jon sitting against a wall behind the school.
"I've been trying to find you guys all afternoon!" said Dany.
"Ah," said Tyrion, "well we didn't want Marge to find you talking to us again, yes? Not that it would make a difference now anyway. We've been busy convincing our friends to vote for you Dany. And to vote for Jon."
Jon smiled at her. "Yeah. I know Cersei's group won't even mention my name, but the rest of the school knows exactly who I am."
They certainly did this week. Jon, who usually kept a low profile, had actually been made captain of the football team by Coach Ned just this past week. Robb had to step down because he had been getting a little bit too aggressive with the team, and he had a new girlfriend who took up all of his time. The team didn't like that.
"I know! I heard! Look at you," said Dany.
"Yes, yes, we are all very please with ourselves. You two haven't won anything yet, so I'm still the only one with real power here," instructed Tyrion.
Jon laughed. Dany rolled her eyes, and then said, "Heyy. Speaking of winning. Jon, now that Cersei has forcibly removed my previous date, would you be my date to homecoming? And my king of course, if this works out as it should?"
Jon gave her a soft smile. "Well, alright. Let's do that." Dany smiled, and stood up.
"Well boys, I will see you soon? Vote for meeee!" Dany did her best Cersei impression, grinned and glared. They laughed, and she walked away.
Friday lunch period came very soon. Dany was sitting next to Marge and Sansa as Robb prattled on to the two of them about some nonsense about the team they would be playing that night, the North High Ice Walkers, when the intercom beeped with the sound of Tyrion's voice. As school president, he got to make these thrilling announcements.
"Good afternoon West Terros! As your student body president, it is my privilege to announce the nominees for this year's homecoming king and queen! Know that all votes were counted by our esteemed Mr. Baelish. Are you all ready? Shall I begin with the nominees for king?" This was followed by silence. "Alright! Our homecoming king nominees this year areeee: Joff, Jon and, why, this is a little awkward, but the votes are votes my fellow students, me! Tyrion! Don't worry, it's not a joke." This got a few laughs and a few groans. Dany was the only laugh at her table. And the nominees for our beautiful queen of West Terros High are: Cersei, of course," grunted Tyrion, "Sansa andddd Dany! Congratulations ladies. Good luck to all of you! Remember, the homecoming queen this year gets to choose our new school mascot and gets to make a speech in front of the whole school. Doesn't that sound fun? Just about as fun as this is! And on that note, I'll let you kids enjoy your lunch period. See you tonight at the game!" Tyrion's voice cut off.
Dany was ready for the drama that as about to ensue. Sansa looked as if she had just won the lottery and was clearly daydreaming about how she would look on stage. Cersei looked like she wanted to punch someone and Marge was on the verge of tears. Oh dear. She got up and claimed she had to go to the bathroom, but the second she got up she heard Cersei's exasperated, "she… nobody even knows…. It doesn't make sense… I mean Sansa obviously won't win… Dany came out of nowhere… who even is she?!" She passed by Tyrion and Jon, who were now sitting together, winked, and walked straight to the bathroom. It was probably best to leave the dramatics behind her at the moment. She would see them all tonight. Yay. She smiled to herself.
Dany arrived to the football game in her homecoming gown. She saw the other candidates all standing together. Cersei was standing with her arms crossed muttering things to Joff, Sansa was ignoring the two of them, and Jon and Tyrion were laughing at something together. Dany walked over to them and put her arm in Jon's, who would be her escort.
"Hi guys!" she said brightly.
"Hello your highness," winked Jon. Cersei grimaced and turned back to Joff. They would be walking together, and then Sansa and Tyrion would be partners. Although, they could all win separately. Jon was still in his football uniform, and would have to leave the game at half time to come stand in his football jersey. Dany didn't mind, of course. She wasn't nervous at all, because she had a pretty good feeling that she would win… she didn't know why exactly. Well, she did. She was meant to come to this school and set things straight. She went and sat on the bleachers with the other candidates and watched the West Terros High Lions, which would soon be changed, go up against the North High Ice Walkers. The Ice Walkers were totally destroying them, but for some reason, the Ice Walker student section was totally empty, which was weird. The Ice Walkers and West Terros had been rivals forever, and the homecoming game was the big show down between them every year. Everyone always showed up for the game, whether they cared about football or not. Perhaps there was some event tonight that drew all the students away.
It was almost halftime, and Dany and the other candidates started to get ready to walk up on stage. Mr. Baelish would be announcing the winner. The half-time whistle blew, and Jon came sprinting down to Dany and the others, covered in sweat. He looked a little bit alarmed.
"What's wrong?" asked Dany.
"The White Walkers… North High is playing a huge prank on us!" exclaimed Jon.
"What! What are they doing? Cersei demanded. How dare they distract from homecoming…!"
"Who careees" yawned Joff. "They can't do anything we can't fix later."
"Wha-" Dany was cut off by a megaphoned version of Mr. Baelish's voice saying, "Welcome students!"
"I'd like to welcome our wonderful candidates on stage! Come on up my friends!"
Two by two, the candidates walked up the little steps to the homecoming stage, starting with Tyrion and Sansa. Sansa was about a foot taller than Tyrion, and Mr. Baelish grabbed her hand to help her up the steps and nearly tripped Tyrion as he cut him off on the top of the stairs. Cersei and Joff walked up smiling radiantly, looking lovely as usual. They got a few scattered cheers and claps. Then, Dany and Jon made their way up and the student section whistled and whooped. Definitely more people than Cersei and Joff had cheers from. They all positioned themselves on stage. The three girls on one side, and the three boys on the other.
"All right, all right, settle down," Mr. Baelish said in reply to the ongoing catcalls, cheers and jokes that kept going. Some were yelling "where's Jaime!" at Cersei, and there were a few chants of "dragon dork," directed at Dany.
"It's time to announce the winner! Don't forget that this year's homecoming winners get to choose our new school mascot and hopefully they have a speech prepared as this year's chosen ambassadors for the school. Homecoming court is not a popularity contest, but a democratic choice among the students of the school on who will be the best representative among their peers. All right. Drumroll please! Our winner for homecoming king is…. JON!" Jon smiled. He didn't look too surprised, but a little taken aback at the loud cheers he got from the crowd. He walked up to the front and received the crown from Mr. Baelish. "Congratulations Jon! Now, the moment you have all been eagerly waiting for, we have our winner for homecoming queen, which is… DANY!" Dany beamed, and the students whooped. Cersei looked like she was about to break something, but maintained her composure on the stage. "Now, congratulations you two. I'll let you convene for a couple of minutes to make your mascot announcement and speech." Mr. Baelish clapped them on the back and led the other candidates off stage.
Dany didn't need to discuss with Jon. She had already been planning this, and he knew it. She walked up to the microphone, and tapped it. "Students of West Terros. Hello. My name is Dany. I am your queen. Thank you for voting for me." She looked over at Jon. He nodded. "As you may know, I'm new to West Terros this year, but I'm not new to it's stories. Some of you might remember my cousin, Rhaegar, who was wrongly blamed for cheating on exams by her." She pointed at Cersei, who gave her a look of daggers. "Cersei screwed up Rhaegar's high school career. She also accused Drogo of selling drugs, and was caught with her brother Jaime at the Frey's party." There were a few bits of laughter. Cersei was red with anger. "Yes, they are related. Isn't that just awful? Disgusting you might say? Well STOP. The truth is that this school has one big problem, and it's that you are all related. This school, and it's screwed up students need some NEW BLOOD. That's why I'm here. Did you think it strange that none of us refer to anyone else by anything but their first name? Why, pray tell, do we all kind of look alike? The answer is the unspoken truth that has pervaded West Terros for a long time now." At this point the students looked a bit confused, but were listening intently. The football team was surrounding the stage as well, listening to Dany speak.
"We'll start with Cersei. Yes, Jaime is her brother, who she is actively hooking up with. Creepy right? But her and Jaime completely ignore their brother Tyrion and their cousin Joff. Lannisters, all of them." Dany was getting louder and more powerful as she continued speaking. She was made for this. "You! Robb!" Dany said, pointing at Robb, who smiled and raised his hand. "Robb Stark, right? Any relation to Sansa? Coach Ned? How about those annoying junior highers Arya, Bran and Rick? Well, they all have that same last name too! And Jon!"
"Wait a second," said Robb. "I totally get what you're saying, but Jon isn't really in our family. He was kind of adopted."
Dany smirked. "That's right. But even so, all of you shunned him. Especially after you exiled my own cousin Rhaegar, who was going to be class president, and probably homecoming king. Well, here's the truth. Jon was Rhaegar's brother which makes him my cousin, which makes him a Targaryen." Somewhere in the audience, a long-lost Viserys gave a wild cheering yell. Dany's face softened a bit. "You're all so horrible to each other, but you're literally all family! Maybe you should stop fighting each other, and start ganging up on the Ice Walkers, who are currently playing some elaborate prank on our school. You're all too busy with your interrelational drama to even notice."
Someone peaked over the bleachers, saw what was happening, and yelled, "Those jerks are spray painting their own Ice Walkers all over our walls!" More student yelling ensued. Dany cleared her throat and everyone was silent.
"What this school needs is some new blood, and that's what I'm here for." Dany grinned. "Oh, and our new mascot is a dragon… now let's go defend our wall and CRUSH THE ICE WALKERS!"
