We're just a pair of lonely boys, facing the world together.
Dear Mother and Father,
Life in Miracle City has been going great since you last wrote your letter. I've been doing great in school, and I've even got a friend. His name is Diego and he's three years younger than me. He's really smart and he's good at keeping secrets. We even like the same things! I should send pictures of us, we're quite a pair.
Anyway, thank you for continuing to write me. I've been busy with some things in Miracle City, so I'm sorry I haven't been able to write back in a while.
I love you both. I hope you're having fun in Italy.
Love,
Sergio
Sergio sighed as he put away his letter. He had gone over it, again and again, to make sure he had gotten everything right. It was a stressful, yet necessary task.
After all, his parents were completely unaware of the fact that he was a villain.
His "being busy with some things in Miracle City" involved bank heists and destruction. He was known as Señor Siniestro in Miracle City, the fearsome cowboy-themed, high-tech supervillain.
And he preferred to keep that a secret from his family.
If his parents were to find out about something like that, how would they react? Definitely not positively. He had always been their "little cowboy".
He hadn't seen them in a few months, and he missed them. He didn't know when they'd be coming to Miracle City to visit, and the thought of them visiting made him excited yet terrified. He would have to do a lot to make sure he kept his evil deeds a secret from them.
A knock at the barn door interrupted his thoughts. Who could it be, at this hour?
Hopping down from his chair, he walked over to the door and opened it. Standing there was his best (and only) friend, Diego.
A smile formed on Sergio's face. "I'mma so glad to see you, Diego!"
The younger boy nodded. "J'es, it is nice to see you as well." His voice fell into a whisper. "Do you have time to talk?"
"Of course I do. I'mma always gonna be there for you when you need me."
Diego couldn't help but grin. Sergio's friendship was something he truly valued, and Diego didn't value a lot of things (unless we're talking about money or other valuables, of course).
Sergio opened the barn door wider. "Come on inside."
Diego walked into the barn, with Sergio shutting the door behind him.
"So, what did you want to talk about?" He asked, still smiling.
Diego sighed, crossing his arms and looking down at the floor. "A few things. First, I need to vent."
Sergio's face turned serious. "Go ahead, amigo."
Sighing again, Diego looked from the floor and back to his best friend.
"It's my father. He doesn't understand me. Every time I try to tell him something, he doesn't care. He always makes excuses and puts me down."
Sergio nodded, taking in his friend's rant.
"Just today, I tried to show him an invention I've been working on, and he told me it wasn't good enough. Not good enough! He probably doesn't even care that I'm not home right now. He probably hasn't even looked."
Blinking away tear droplets, Diego took a shaky breath. "That's all."
Sergio frowned, showing sympathy for the younger boy. "I'mma sorry you had to go through that."
Diego nodded, then unexpectedly ran to Sergio and pulled him in for a hug.
"Sergio..." Diego sobbed, pulling him closer. "I'm so glad you're my best friend."
Sergio blushed, still surprised from the sudden hug. "Y-You too, Diego. I'mma glad we're friends."
Diego let go, wiping away the tears from his non-metallic eye. His other eye had fizzled out.
"I was going to tell you something else, but maybe that could wait for when it's not so late at night. Good night, Sergio."
He had started to leave, but his arm was grabbed by the shorter boy.
"Since you're already here, do you want to spend the night?"
Diego grinned. "Of course! Why didn't I think of that?"
Sergio's face lit up. "I stole some video games earlier today. Do you want to play some?"
"Ooh, what kind of games?"
"You'll see."
The two of them spent all night playing video games. Occasionally while playing, they talked about their latest evil schemes and ideas. Sometimes they would chat about more mundane things, such as homework or school. It was overall a fun and eventful night.
When the two finally went to bed much later, Sergio had a lot on his mind. Poor Diego had been really stressed out by his father's behavior, and Sergio didn't want him to feel as if he didn't matter just because his father acted like that.
Sergio was also coming to terms with some personal issues, as well.
Glancing over at his friend, he smiled as he noticed that Diego was fast asleep, wrapped up snugly in his sleeping bag.
Diego did look really cute when he was asleep.
Sergio couldn't help but wonder what he could have been talking about when he said he had something else to say earlier. Could it have been something about him?
Maybe, if Sergio was really lucky, there was a chance that Diego liked him back.
Yeah, right. He couldn't even get Frida to like him.
Taking another quick look at the sleeping scientist, Sergio sighed and closed his eyes, and was asleep within minutes.
