Chapter Six: Treated Like a Friend

I'm gonna be honest, I have no reason for not updating I'm just lazy, I knew I needed to write it but I was like 'ugh but then I've gotta' so yeah, sorry about the wait, I have no intention of giving up on the story, just understand I'm lazy as hell...

Riley sits precariously at the edge of Topanaga's bed, biting her already numbed down nails, I'm just hoping she doesn't crack under the pressure of keeping this huge secret under-wraps. I sit across the room in a hard wooden chair which is seriously starting to numb my behind and it's not flattering to say the least, not that it needed to be stated.

Topanga on the other hand is digging through her closet, desperate to find something to wear for this dumb get together which, to be totally honest, I have absolutely no interest in but seeing as Riley needs to get a better handle on this whole trapped in the past with her parents thing, it's only common sense to put her through this sort of personal torture.

"What about this dress you guys?" Topanga asks, turning around to face us, holding up a pretty sapphire blue dress with a nice dip in the collar and a beautiful flair of the hips and the skirt part of the dress flows down in layers.

"It looks hot, sexy even," I reply, shrugging my shoulders. Topanga and Riley both look over a me, a look of disgust clearly shown on their faces, gosh, they're such prudes. "I'm joking, it looks nice, professional even."

"Y-yeah, it looks nice and believe me, you can't believe e-everything Maya says, she has a flair for dramatic," Riley replies, reluctantly glancing over and up at her some-day-to-be mother.

"Do you think that this will..." Topanga shakes her head and looks at the ground before letting a smile cross her lip and a light pink blush overtake her cheeks. "Never mind, it doesn't matter anyways."

"Wait a minute," I straighten up in the chair, no longer laying lazily over the chair with my arms laid over the back and legs carelessly thrown over the arm of the chair. "Is this about a crush. Is that why you're so worried about what dress to wear? So that you can impress a boy?"

She tilts her head back and forth ever so slightly as if trying to decide whether or not to confide this sort of personal information to us but when she lets out a final sigh I know her decision without her ever telling us directly. "Yes..." she replies, almost so quietly that I'm almost unable to hear her.

"Who is it, i-if I may ask?" Riley speaks, even though we both know who it is that she's totally crushing on, it's hard to believe that this is what they were like then they end up so, weird in the future.

"Someone we've already met?" I chime in.

Topanga looks back up at us, her face now burning a vibrant scarlet color. "If I tell you this you have to promise, and I mean promise of your life promise, that you won't ever, ever, ever, ever tell him I sort of have a massive crush on him, understood?"

"Understood," both Riley and I say at the exact same time. "We won't tell anyone anything about your crush, or tell your crush that you like them."

"Okay," she steps over to her bed where Riley is and Riley, being the nice person that she is, scoots over giving Topanga room to sit down on the bed near her. Topanga places her elbows on her legs and leans her head on her hands. Her long brown hair falls down around her face, blocking her eyes from view and I hear her take a deep breath before she finally speaks.

"Yes, you've met him, he's that boy that I was walking with, Cory Matthews, I've like him for awhile now but he-he doesn't seem to notice my feelings which is good but bad because I really like him," Topanga says, still not looking at either of us.

"Why don't you, I don't know, tell him," I suggest.

At that her head bolts up and she spins her head around to face me, eyes wide in both shock and fear. "No, no, no way would I ever tell him because if I do then what if he doesn't feel the same way? Or we ruin our friendship? We've already lost our friendship once and I really don't want it to be ruined because I developed some, unwelcome feelings, besides I'm not pretty and I'm kind of geeky."

"So what, just because you're a little geeky doesn't mean he doesn't like you, besides if he ends your friendship over something like that well, that's not alright and who knows, maybe he likes you back?" I suggest, looking down at my fingernails.

"N-no, I'm not going to risk it but thank you for that vote of confidence, so, do you think this dress with make him see me as someone other than his friend?" she asks, rising to her feet and holding the dress out for us to see. "There's also this white one in there, it's a little more classy and less party girl type but I figure this one is better for this sort of social outing."

"Yeah, that one's nice, you should go with it, a-and you could a-also leave your hair down to give you a more mysterious sort of look and aura. mysteries draw in boys they like to unravel the secret," Riley said, getting up on her feet and walking past Topanga to look at the white dress in the closet. She pulls it out to reveal a church type of dress that one would only wear to that and maybe a wedding.

"Come on, let's get ready," I reply, getting up and heading towards them both. "We have an event to steal the show away from."
