Long ago, in a land inhabited by monsters, there was once a dragon who was among the mightiest of all his kind, possessing incredible strength enough to obliterate entire armies. Despite his great strength however, he was always overshadowed by the raw power of the strongest dragon of the land: the mighty Blue-Eyes White Dragon.
No matter how many times the two did battle, the dragon was always bested by Blue-Eyes, left humiliated and injured at the beast's feet as it mocked him for attempting to challenge him.
"Only the strongest of all magicians is able to stand against me" the white dragon taunted him "You will never possess the strength to oppose me".
Desperate, the dragon sought the wisdom of the Lord of All Dragons, asking him for advice.
"While you may not possess the natural strength of Blue-Eyes" the Dragon Lord said "I sense within you a power of equal might. If you wish, I can awaken it, but you will be forever changed. What is your decision?"
Excited at the prospect of a power that could rival Blue-Eyes, the dragon said yes to his natural ability being awakened. And so, the Lord of Dragons blew on his mighty flute and the dragon was changed forever.
His scales became black as night and his eyes turned a blood red. Despite the transformation, however, he did not feel any stronger.
"As I said," the Lord of Dragons explained "While you do not have the natural power of Blue-Eyes, you possess a skill just as powerful. That of shapeshifting. You are now able to harness many of this world's energies and take on forms degreeing strength. Go, learn of your power and find what you have been capable of all along".
The dragon soon learned that the Dragon Lord spoke the truth. He found himself able to morph into many different forms. He could harness the incredible might of the machine tribe to become a machine himself. He was able to merge with his allies Summon Skull and Meteor Dragon to become more powerful beasts. He found himself even able to change his size and age, able to morph into his hatchling form to use as a disguise as well as transform into a dragon that could harness the power of dragon spirits long passed.
The dragon's versatile power became known throughout the world. While many spoke of the Blue-Eyes as one of victory, they spoke of the other dragon as one of potential.
The name they all spoke was…Red-Eyes Black Dragon.
