Chapter 9

Somewhere on the other side of the city, Mc Gee sat on his comfy sofa watching some TV but he was barely paying attention to it as his mind was filled with thoughts about Kelly. The two had become close friends over the years, right now he was very concerned for his good friend and he could only imagine through what hell Gibbs had to go through at this moment. It was a good thing to know, that Hollis Mann was by his side to support him, the one woman that he once again was able to have a happy marriage after he had did have so much bad luck with women in the past. He and the rest of the team had been so happy for Gibbs, as he had been reunited unexpectedly with his lost daughter a few ago and it would probably devastate him if she would be taken from him for real this time around and so he hoped that she would fight through this whole thing.

He was kind of unsure if it was a good idea to come by and visit Kelly in the hospital or give Gibbs and Hollis the space that they definitely needed at this difficult time. Deep down he was also starting to second guess his true feelings for her: Of course they didn't knew each other that long, but Tim did feel that little spark between them from the beginning and that made him think if they could be more than just friends in the near future. But as quickly as this thought came to his mind, he quickly shook his head in denial thinking: No, I really can't be thinking like that right now because it's too early to tell if this feeling really lasts and if there's the possibility that the feeling is mutual. Even if she would feel the same way about him, he was kind of unsure if he would able to go through with it at the end because getting involved with the daughter of his boss on romantic level would also mean that he would be under special surveillance by Gibbs himself. Of course Gibbs would do anything in his power to avoid that the most precious person in his life besides Hollis Mann would get her heart broken by some guy, especially when the person was directly working under his command and Mc Gee would probably do the same if the roles were reversed.

A couple of hours later Gibbs still hadn't moved from his chair at the bedside of his daughter one bit, but Hollis could see very well that he was fighting hard to keep his eyes open as this stressful day had kind of sucked the energy out of him and as always Gibbs did his best to keep up the mask of the strong Marine because he didn't want to show any weakness in front of anybody. It was so hard for her not be able to do anything that would make him feel better and even if never had been the religious kind of person she prayed deep down that Kelly would pull through this, because she hated to think about what could happen if he would lose her for real this time around.

Meanwhile time didn't exist anymore for Gibbs, his body wanted to go into bed that desperately right at this moment but his heart kept telling him that he needed to stay by his daughter's bedside because he wanted to be right there by her side even if that could in the middle of the night.

You have to wake up my little angel, please do it for your Dad that will always love you with all his heart. Gibbs thought as he held tight onto the hand of his daughter, who still had her eyes closed and then just listened to the constant beeping of her heart monitor for a few minutes as he tried to chase the tiredness away by just rubbing his eyes for a second. Hollis gently held onto the other free hand of Gibbs and she knew that Jethro needed her at this difficult time the most.

Before Jethro was finally ready to get up from the chair at Kelly's bedside and go home for today, because there wasn't anything left to do for him now, the tone of the heart monitor suddenly changed it's a beat in a drastic way. He didn't know what happened at first, but as he was able to connect the dots the panic was obvious in his eyes, he hoped that all of this was just a very bad dream that he would wake up from soon but unfortunately it was the harsh reality that unfolded right in front of his eyes. What did I do to deserve this kind of cruel punishment?

He never had been a religious kind of person but right now he couldn't help, but think that some higher power didn't want him to be happy and by that kept on screwing with him. He slowly stepped aside as some doctors rushed into the room getting to work and from this point on, it kind of seemed to him like everything around him was happening in slow motion. Applying several shocks to the front part of the body, the doctors tried their very best to get their patients back to live again but she was slipping further away as numerous attempts with the defibrillator failed. Hollis finally escorted Gibbs out of the room, wanting to give the doctors the space they needed to work and having the feeling that he needed the fresh air right now so much or else she would have to pick him up from the floor.

As they were finally standing outside of Kelly's room, Gibbs practically collapsed into the arms of his girlfriend and she was surprised but also willing to give him all the emotional support that he needed at this very moment. It took quite a while but then Gibbs was finally able to recollect himself, with a blank expression on his face he stared at the doctors who were desperately fighting for the life of his daughter.
