Chapter 13

Two days later the condition of Kelly still hadn't changed and the only positive thing that Gibbs was able to see in that was, that no more complications were a good sign but it still was so hard on him that she didn't wake up from the coma yet. He didn't sleep very well both of those nights after he had returned from the hospital and as he was tossing and turning in bed because of the same nightmare that he had the night before, there was running down a lot of sweat down his forehead as he screamed: „No Kelly, Please don't leave me!" Hollis wake up instantly from that, wrapping her arms around Gibbs and said:

„It's okay Jethro, that was just another nightmare and Kelly isn't leaving you, as she will fight through this and wake up again very soon." Of course it was an very unusal sight to Hollis to see him that vurneable but Gibbs had clearly changed since his daughter had entered his life again. It took a couple of minutes but then Gibbs was finally able to go back to sleep again and before Hollis did the same, she softly kissed his forehead and whispered: „Good night Jethro."

The next day Gibbs sat by his daughter's bedside, gently holding onto her hand the entire time kind of praying in his thoughts that she would open up her eyes again very soon even if he never had been a religious person. He was so focused on his daughter that he didn't notice Abby Sciuto, the Goth Scientist enter the room and instead of instantly starting to talk like a waterfall like she would usually do, she just quielt sat down next to Gibbs after she took one of the remaining chairs in the room. Of course she hated to see him so sad like this, as he had been so happy all the time since his daughter had unexpectedly returned into his life after all those years. I wish that I could say something to make him feel beter and gurantee him that everything will work out just fine in the end, but the truth is that I don't know for sure if that will happen for sure or if this is just wishful thinking. Because she wasn't sure oft he right words to say at this point she just lay one arm around him and gently caressed his back, because somethimes it was just enough to lend a shoulder to cry on. It took a few minutes but then Gibbs slowly but surely turned around to face Abby and then she asked him with a very concerned look on her face:

„How are you holding up under these difficult circumstances? I can't even began to imagine how hard this whole thing must be for you, but just to let you know, me and the rest of the team will support you always when you need something especially me after you have done so much to me in the past." She owed Gibbs big time after everything he had done for her and they truly did have a special connection since she had started working for Gibbs, as he had kind of treated her like a daughter for the past couple of years.

„Thank you Abs, I appreciate your and everybody else support a lot." Gibbs said and it took a lot out of him not to cry at this point, as he was so touched by her words and he sometimes still couldn't help but think how much he hated the fact that he was so vurneable in situations like these. After sucessfully keeping his emotions in check as good as possible at this point, he just kissed the Goth Scientist gently on her forehead and then they just sat there in silence for quite some time. Abby continue to sit right next to Gibbs for another two hours, Gibbs let go of his daughter's hand after his hand felt like lead after some time but of course he kept focusing very closely on his still unconsious daughter.

As it got late and the visiting hours at the hospital hour came to an end, Gibbs fell asleep on his chair and because he was thinking that he was hearing his daughter's voice in his dreams, he didn't realize it immediately that his daughter had opened her eyes again and said: „Dad."

Kelly called out again a little bit louder, trying her best to get her father's attention in this weakened state that she was right now and that already took a lot of energy out of her. It took quite a while but then Gibbs realized that he thankfully wasn't starting to imagine things and that his daughter had woken up from her coma for real and not in his imagination.

He rubbed his eyes for a second, really wanting to make sure that this was no dream and then he just got up from his chair and hugged her gently for a while. Later a doctor arrived at Kelly's room after Gibbs had notified a nurse, which he had found nearby his daughter's room and did a quick check up of her vital signs. After he was finally done he said: „Your daughter's vital signs are looking good so far, but because of the huge amount of blood she has lost as a result of the heavy injuries that she has suffered, we will have to keep her here in the hospital for observation." Gibbs was so happy that Kelly was awake again and of course he took the words of the Doctor very serious, as he wanted to make sure that his daughter would make a full recovery without any problems.

Before he left the hospital Gibbs kissed Kelly's forehead and whispered in her ear: „Sweet Dreams my Angel, I'll be back tomorrow to see you again and once you get home again, I promise you that I'll cook you your favorite meal and we will spent a wonderful evening together just you and me." As he had reached the door, he turned around to look at his sleeping daughter one more time and then finally made his way towards the exit of the hospital.
