Chapter Six

"Good morning Miss Vanilla, Cream." Vector greeted to the two rabbits as he rolled a ball of dough in some flour. Vanilla gave him a polite nod as Cream curtsied like she was taught to do. "Good morning!" Cream said sweetly as she went with her mother for a tray to bring Amy.

"What are you two doing in here so early?" Vector asked dusting some of the flour off his shirt. "Aren't you two usually in the dining hall helping set up breakfast?"

Vanilla took a tray down and started to get a glass of water. "Amelia isn't feeling so good so I told her mother I would help Cream get her some breakfast." She said placing the now full glass of cool water on the tray. "Do you have any eggs and fruit ready to be served; I think she would like that." Vanilla asked Vector with such a sweet voice it made Vector's heart flutter a little in his chest.

Vector nodded and moved to the stove to dish up is freshly made sunny side up eggs. "What's wrong with her?" he asked as he placed some strawberries and apple slices on the plate. He handed the plate to Vanilla and she took it graciously before putting on the tray. "Cream, can you get a fork for me please?" Cream nodded and got a fork from the drawer next to Vector.

Vanilla turned back to Vector, leaning against the counter. "I'm not sure. According to Cream she just had a hard night and just would not get out of bed this morning." Cream handed her a silver fork and she placed it on the tray next to the plate.

"Well, I hope she feels better." Vector said going back to work on the dough.

Suddenly, a tall elderly badger in a brown cloak walked in with a brown sack in one hand and a few envelopes in the other. "Good morning Vector, ladies." He greeted nicely bowing his head to Vanilla and Cream. "I have a few letters for you today." He handed Vanilla the stack of letters.

She looked through them when one envelope dropped. "I'll get it." Cream said. She crouched down and picked it up but gasped when she saw the Mobotropolis seal. Vanilla looked at her strangely. Cream slowly stood up holding the envelope to where the seal was out of sight. "What's wrong Cream?"

Cream tried to smile. "Nothing, just a little tired." Vanilla went to take the letter when Cream placed it on the tray. "It's a letter for Amy; I'll take the letter and her breakfast to her." She said picking up the tray and heading for the door. Vanilla looked at the empty doorway for a moment before turning to Vector and the messenger. "Thank you gentlemen," She said bowing her head before walking out of the kitchen.

Amy's Room

Amy you have to get out of bed eventually." Rouge said trying not to sound frustrated.

Amy still lay in bed with her big red comforter on top of her. "I thought I finally made a friend." Amy said softly, trying not to cry.

Rouge laid down next to Amy pulling the sheets down so she could look Amy in the eye with a gentle smile. "You have me and Cream, we're your friends."

Amy pulled the covers back over her head as she let out a quiet sob and a tear fell down her cheek. "That doesn't count; you're paid to be my friend." Amy choked.

Rouge looked at the lump under the covers in shock and with a little pain. She frowned as she pulled the sheet over her own head to look at Amy. Rouge gently whipped away her tears. "Is that really what you think?" She said softly as she moved a piece of hair out of Amy's face. "Amy, we're paid to pick out your dresses, get you dressed, and make sure you're where you're supposed to be. We're your friends because you're sweet, lovable, and an all-around great person. Don't ever think like that again." Amy let a slight smile grace her face and nodded.

Suddenly there was a knock at the door. Rouge got out of the bed and tucked Amy back in. "I'll get it." She said. When she opened the door a very nervous Cream ran into the room with a tray. Quickly she slammed the tray down onto Amy's night stand; startling Amy and making her sit up. Running back towards Rouge and closed it. "Cream, what's going on?" Rouge asked.

Cream slowly picked up the letter and showed them the seal on the back. Rouge's eyes almost flew out of her head and Amy's happiness slowly came back when she saw it. Amy slowly stood up and walked towards Cream and took the letter from her. "Is this from who I think it is?" she asked softly.

"I would assume so." Cream said shyly. Amy moved to her desk and sat in the chair placing the envelope on the desk top. She looked at it a little confused and scared. "If he sent me a letter then that means he knows who I am." Amy said, mostly just talking to herself. She let out a low breath that she didn't realize she was holding and opened the letter and saw Sonic's blocked hand writing.

Dear Amy Rose,

Thanks to Tails and Knuckles I know who you are, and you know what? I don't give a shit. "I don't care that my parents say I'm supposed to hate you and your family. I don't care that your family despises me. And I hope you don't hate me for who I was born to be. All I care about is the fact that I felt more comfortable talking to you than anyone else in my life. You were sweet, and gentle, and funny, and absolutely beautiful; if I'm not being too forward.

I know I probably won't see you again for a while, if ever, but I just want to be able to talk to you at least. It's not as nice as speaking to each other but at least it's still a way to get to know you. And I want you to get to know me. Please answer my letter, it would mean the world to me. And please know that you can trust me.

Sincerely, Sonic T. Hedgehog

Amy's breath hitched in her throat when she read the last paragraph. 'he wants to talk to me again' she thought to herself. Cream and Rouge looked at her in concern. "What does it say Amy?" Cream asked but Amy was still frozen. Rouge slowly approached her and slipped the letter out of her grasp. But Amy didn't notice, she stayed frozen to that spot looking into the distance amazed.

Rouge read the letter as Cream read over her should. In complete unison they gasped. Cream had a small smile, glad that they hadn't caused any problems with him but Rouge was not so relieved. "This isn't good." She said as she passed the room reading and rereading the letter. "What are we going to do if someone else sees this? It would be catastrophic!" Rouge rubbed her chin as she tried to think of a way to solve the 'problem'. Cream stared at her curiously while Amy looked at the desk stuck in her own world. Rouge nodded frantically. "Okay, we can always travel to the market place and try to find Knuckles and Tails and we can tell them that Sonic can't be sending letter here. And then they'll tell him, problem solved, and that ball can be just a stupid memory."

Amy was snapped out of her daze by Rouge's idea and stood up so fast that she knocked over her chair. "Rouge no," Rouge looked at her with pity when she realized how much this meant to Amy. "Please, I want to have a real friendship, a guy friend, and actually have something new, that isn't planned out for me or set up by my parents. I want this one experience."

Rouge sighed as she walked up to Amy slowly and put the letter down on Amy's desk. She placed a gentle hand on Amy's right shoulder. "Amy, you know I wouldn't tell your parents about this and that I know this is completely unfair to you. But I can't risk you, your parents, and possibly the entire kingdom. Amy, if your parents, the guards, or any of the other servants saw that letter we all know your parents would immediately blame his and would start up a whole new problem between both kingdoms. Please understand."

Amy understood completely. She knew what she would be risking, but what is life without taking risks? And Amy had never been given the chance to take any risks till now. Also there had to be some way to get the letters around everyone else in the palace. Amy looked down at the floor in thought when she developed a plan. She looked up to Rouge with a determined smile. When Rouge saw it she immediately knew her words had no effect on Amy. "I have an idea."

"No," Rouge said firmly as she waved her arms and backed away from Amy. "No, no one is getting any ideas, no one is going to be talking to anyone."

Amy pouted as she began to use Rouge's one weakness, the puppy dog eyes. For years it has gotten Amy anything she wanted. Rouge tried t look away and ignore her but she couldn't stop herself from taking quick glances at Amy's big sad eyes. Cream gave Amy a small smile and placed her arm around Amy's shoulder. "Come on Rouge," Cream said. "At least hear her out."

Rouge groaned as she turned around with her arms crossed at her bosom and a glare directed at the duo in front of her. Amy smiled and calmed down a little. "Well," Amy said a little shyly. "What if I wrote a letter to Sonic and you guys go into the marketplace as much as you can and look for Knuckles and Tails, tell them the plan and you guys deliver the letters for us? That way no one else knows except our little circle."

Cream smiled at her, thinking it was a good idea. But Rouge was a little more skeptical about it and kept her glare, but she did think about it. What harm could come from them doing it? If they were careful about not letting it known who they were in public and kept the letters secure and hidden, no one would be the wiser. Rouge sighed as she relaxed herself. "Fine," She said and Amy squealed in excitement. "But we need to be extremely careful about letting people know what's going on. And we have to keep a low profile going out. Got it gu-" But she was cut off by Amy bringing her into a tight hug.

"Thank you Rouge!" Rouge sighed and pat Amy on the back with a small smile.

"Yeah, yeah." Rouge said. Amy let go and sat back down at her desk pulling out a piece of paper and a feathered pen.

"What are you doing Amy?" Cream asked as Amy started to write something.

"I'm writing him back," She said happily as she wrote as fast as she could. "The sooner I write back the sooner I get a replay from him."

Cream smiled as Rouge shook her head in slight annoyance but with a little bit of happiness for her friend behind it. Rouge tapped Cream's shoulder to get her attention. "Let's leave her alone to think." She whispered before they headed for the door, with Amy not noticing that they were leaving.

As they walked out and started to close the door the last thing they heard was the sound of crumpling paper and Amy groaning. "No, that's no good. It has to be perfect." Cream let out a soft giggle as Rouge closed the door.

"Something tells me she may take a while." Rouge said with a small grin.
