CharmerDark

Kakashi was in for a shock…..This was decided. If he thought he could get away with lazing off on his three genin with just some teamwork exercises, Naruto would make sure he regrets it. Naruto wanted to make sure that guy would be surprised this time around. He went back to his apartment, ninja hopping the whole way; he had to get his pranking supplies.

His pranking supplies were a large collection of paint cans, itching powder, traps and what not which he had found from around the town. Even if he had to exhaust the whole of it, the masked man was going down. Quickly running into his house, Naruto went to the closet close to his bed and started getting his stuff. He quickly summoned a pair of clones to help him and three of them set off to the third training ground.

Kakashi Hatake was not sure about what to think of this team. True, it had the last uchiha, who only he could help in training and his sensei's son, whom he was duty bound to look after, but they were such a pair of brats! The nerve of them, betting on him falling for their trap!

But even then Kakashi knew the real reason he was upset was not that. One of the first things that he taught any subordinate in his ANBU was "no underestimating your opponents and no intentionally springing their traps, even if you are confident in your own skills". He had fallen short of his teaching.

Kakashi was no fool; he knew he was nowhere close to his levels at the ANBU times anymore. Dropping out from the elites meant no more compulsory training and no more juniors looking up to him. These were the only things that had kept him honing his skills. After all, even though he was a master of a hundred techniques, he had never been able to save anyone who was close to him. His one original technique, in one of its first battle uses had killed his best friend. His first trainer had committed suicide, even though he was really a hero of the nation. For genius ninja Kakashi, all that his career had given was bad luck and disaster.

To put things short this team in their very first meeting, unknowingly had forced the copy ninja to face some of his mistakes. So he had done the one thing he did whenever he felt bad, he went to the mausoleum to heroes at training ground three and talked to the stone for some time. After that he whipped out his little precious and sat under a tree, getting lost in a fantasy world that was so much easier to face than reality. This had continued till the evening when the lights began to dim and he was about to move out when he saw a certain blond and two of his clones land in the clearing next to him.

Kakashi smiled. "It seems at least one of my students had the sense to check out their battlefield before the test and surprisingly it's the dead last." He watched as the boy went around the training ground and began looking for hiding spots and made a couple of clones to go and explore the forest. "Oh, it seems sensei's son knows that shadow clones transfer memories. His files said he was too dense to notice any such detail and yet here I see only him making the smart choice. He gained an advantage while fighting against a strong threat. Must be the academy people showing their bias against the kyuubi when they wrote his file."

Soon Naruto left after dispelling his clones, Kakashi also left as it was getting darker.

Next morning all three genin arrived at the training field at the right time, Naruto looking even more ragged than the last time. He had to wait for Kakashi sensei to leave and then had to go back and get his pranking supplies from the next training field before returning to work, which took a long part of the night.

Naruto was so tired he could hardly bother to greet his teammates. He fell under a tree curled up and immediately began snoring. This set off tick marks on Sakura, her first impulse was to smack the blond knuckle head on his head so as to put some sense into him. But she instinctively, remembered yesterday's events. She had talked to her parents about Naruto who told her that they trusted in the yondaime's work and had no problem with him, except for his pranks. They made it clear that if she started gallivanting about doing stupid pranks, they would personally request her dropped from the shinobi forces.

Thinking back about their times, she had always seen Naruto either alone or mocked by someone, most probably her, so she had resolved to make up for it. She knew the prankster king would take no pity, but also didn't want him taking the opportunity to ask for another date.

"It's not like sensei is here, I might as well as let him sleep"

Another ten minutes later, Kakashi appeared in a puff of smoke. "Good morning sensei, I will just wake up Naruto", she said sweetly. She was glad sensei was not late like last yesterday. Sure he was ten minutes late, but that was nothing compared to yesterday's two and a half hours. She shook Naruto.

"Naruto wake up, sensei is here"

"RAAAAAAAMMMMEEEEEEEEENNN…..MUCH BETTER THAN COFFFFEEEEE YA FURBALL!" He was sleep talking. Sakura lost patience; cocking her fists she blasted them at the blonds' head.

"WAKE UP YOU STUPID!" She punched him. Naruto woke up dazed from the punch. Looking around he started whining "Sakura-chan you meanie, whydya punch me, it's not like sensei is gonna come for another hour."

"Maa…Maaa Naruto just because I was late once you should not expect me late all the time."

"WHHATTT KAKASHI-SENSEI IS NOT TWO HOURS LATE!"

"Looks like the boy has done his research on me too and the traps in the field are pretty good, anyone else would have been fooled. Now to spring it on him."

"So, guys let's move to training ground 4. It's just ten minutes from here. Follow me" And he started hopping off. An irate Sasuke and Sakura followed behind. Sensei could have just told them to appear at the next training ground, could he have trapped it? They were both on guard.

But Naruto stood on the ground frozen, "Nothing like this happened last time around. SHIT! Things are changing too fast. If this goes on, I won't be able tofix anything this time either. DAMNIT, should I go back to acting like a fool?"

"Brat! Don't be stupid! If you suddenly act like you are stupid after coming with all these brilliant ideas, your sensei will grow suspicious! I thought you didn't want anyone in the secret so fast! Not like they would believe you. You would be labeled as a liar."

"Then what the hell should I do? Damn Dattebayo…..I am not even getting paid for this!"

"Do that you do the best, Improvise. Also you had this thing you wanted to test right? The big BOOM idea?"

Even in the situation Naruto had to smirk. Ohhh…..Kakashi wouldn't expect this.

"You know Kurama, are feeling a soft spot for me already? I didn't know you would come around so fast"

" Shut up you blond midget! Your silly life is the only entertainment I have had in many years, And it's a lot more fun seeing you fidget to keep your secret and STOP CALLING ME KURAMA!"

When Kakashi landed at the next training ground, the avenger and the fan girl followed him immediately, but the prankster was a bit late and he had on his face a grin which somehow threw shivers on Kakashi's back. Perhaps he should use his sharingan this time. Naah, that was going overboard and Anko would never let him down if he had to use Sharingan on a bunch of genin.

So Kakashi did the one thing he knew he could, he eye-smiled and said so the test is simple…

Naruto just listened in to make sure nothing had changed in the old bell test. His mind was racing his two shadow clones were running through the field, and his Ying bunshin was transmitting its thoughts and vision to him instantaneously right now he could only delve through a clones vision at a time and look after his body. It was a queer feeling, he wondered if this was how the yamanaka's felt, a mind in another body.

Kakashi had also noticed this, the Jinchuriki was not listening, at least not completely focused and he was sure it had something to do with the earlier grin. At the least he had taken any traps the blond had peppered the earlier field with .True, he could avoid them, but that would mean too much effort. Not that he was taking all the ANBU training back into his life and no the fact that this boy looked like sensei , who he looked up to, had nothing to do with it. Absolutely nothing….

…or so he told himself.

"Anyway….START" And all three of his students ran into hiding.
