Samara's POV
Once we were in flight I headed back to my room on the observation deck, I nodded a few hellos.
"Hey Samara." I turned to see Kasumi Goto also on her way back to her room.
"Hello Kasumi." I said continuing down to my room. The doors swished open. Befroe I could step inside I heard her call out in her hushed tone, like her and I were the only two in the room and she was telling me her biggest secret.
"I heard what you did."
"Yes, but I did not do it alone. Shepard helped me. And he knows I thank him for it." With that I stepped inside the door closing behind me. I know I was being rude, but I still didn't let my breath out until I heard her door open and close behind her. Then only then did I let my breath out ragged and sorrow ridden. I allowed myself to mourn the loss of my brave daughter. I used to blame myself I thought as I shut out the lights looking out in the dark void. But there was nothing I could do. I didn't know what they would become until l I'd already had them.
I sat down, crossing my legs, ready to meditate on the day's events, allowing myself to believe I gave Morinth life, but she choose her own path like I choose mine. I created her, it only seems right that I was the one who should take it away.
Thanes POV
I couldn't help myself I had to tell her, she had to know about Irikah. I had to tell her, I couldn't keep it bottled up anymore.
"Her name was Irikah, I met her when I was trying to kill one of my targets. She jumped in front of my shot. Stared me down through the scope. Said "How dare you" I had to meet her. People like you and I are taught to jump in front of a bullet for any civilian but how often does a civilian jump in front of a bullet for another one?" I said pacing back and forth. She stood there listening to me.
"We had a son together, Koylat. We lost touch after Irikah died, I left him at home while I hunted down her killers. All of them, even the ones who didn't know what they were being told to do or just searched for information on me."
"I-" She held up hand and walked towards me placing it on my chest, spreading out her fingers wide she looked up at me, her eyes the color of the sea.
"Thank you for telling me, I doubt you've told many people about her. She sounds like an amazing woman and I would love to hear more stories about her one day. But for now I think you need to contact your son. Family is one of the few good things we have in this world along with good friends and company. Don't put off this, if you were to die tomorrow wouldn't you want to talk to him one last time?"
With that she dropped her hand and left. I stood there mouth agape, I just bored my soul to her and she told me how to fix my life. I sighed, knowing she was right.
"EDI, leave a note with Kelly. Tell her I need to speak with Shepard.
Violet's POV
I bumped into Samara on her way to her room. I nodded at her and she nodded back but I could see the waver in her eyes as they stay pinned to her door, she was cracking. Entering the elevator I understood more than anyone what it was like to kill your own child, to kill the monster you created.
"Hold you gun up!" I yelled to him over his firing.
"I am!"
"No you're not, point it like you mean it." I said letting irritation slip into my voice.
"We both know I've got this." He said all smugness as he straightened up and took out the target. I jumped down from the nearby ledge walking over to where the body laid dead.
"Poor bastard." He said shuffling through his pockets.
"Ah thee it is." He pulled out a disk, it's always the same I thought as we walked back to our shuttle.
Black mail, they crossed the wrong family, they did this or they did that. People never get along, everything matters to some, if you don't follow them you're dead to them no matter how many times you try to reason with them. This guy, he took information that wasn't his. I'm sure he thought he was doing the right thing, but the right thing sometimes gets you killed before anyone even knows you've done something for them.
"Oi! You listening to me Ma!" My son said waving a hand in front of my face.
"What?" I said.
"I said I told you I could do it."
"Yeah if you actually killed the target like you're supposed to as quickly as possible instead of toying with them. How would you feel if someone did that to you or worse what is someone saw you?"
"Nobody except you and I saw anything. And you ain't going to tell nobody a thing, cause you' lose your job just as much as I'd lose mine." He said continuing walking. I stopped, this wasn't the boy I'd raised from an orphan.
"Tell me!" I yelled at him.
"Tell me why'd you have to do it?" He turned around to see the barrel of my favorite assault rifle Betty.
I watched him stretch whip out his own and smile cruelly.
"You of all people should know how the world works Mother."
"Don't you dare call me that now, so it's true then?"
"That's right, the adopted son of the great Admiral is a slaver. Who kills for fun and loves his drugs!" He laughed as he said it.
"Why?"
"Why! Why? Because I can that's why! Because playing by the rules ain't no fun and the good guys always get the short end of the stick."
He turned around waving at the world I took this chance to turn on my cloaking and disappeared into the shadows of nightfall.
"You see Ma, or maybe you don't because you're too good for the underworld. Is that the world needs people like us, without people trying to do things their own way you're prefect world or rules wouldn't work, you couldn't scare people into believe if they don't follow the rules the world will turn into utter chaos."
"Without rules, it would!" I shouted hitting him with a shockwave knocking him off his feet.
He retaliated with one of his own in the wrong direction.
"Cloaking! Isn't that the oldest trick in the book?" He put up a barrier as he worked to crack my cloaking code.
I rushed him from behind stabbing him with my gutting knife in the sweet spot right by the kidneys. He grunted in pain grabbing a hold of me by waist flipping me over onto my back I quickly rolled over as he shot at where I was. I took off at a dead run towards the woods line. I know I can hunt better than he can.
"You think going in there is going to save you!" he yelled shooting off a couple rounds one grazing my shoulder. I smiled as I heard him start running after me. It's going to be over soon I thought.
"Hey! You awake?" I heard a rough voice bark at me. I awoke to Grunt towing above me. I must have fallen asleep in the elevator I thought as I stood up.
"Yeah, yeah." I said to him as he walked back over to his room with the odd tank.
I wonder what it's like to be tank born I thought then just followed him.
"Hey! Grunt?"
Shepard's POV
I paused outside Samar's door, what was I going to say her? What could I say, hell I have no idea what I'm doing. How would it feel to lose your own kid? I shook my head, I just have to do it. Come on Shepard you can kick any collectors ass any day you can do this! I entered the room and there she was sitting on the floor like always. Does she even know how to relax? I thought.
"Hey, can we talk?"
"Yes, I would like that."
"How are you?" I said watching her let her guard down as she stood up walking over to the window.
"Morinth haunted my days and nights for three hundred year. I am a broken vessel of sorrow and regret but I am finally free." She said I could hear the pain in her voice.
"Do you want to talk about it anymore?" I said watching her watching the space.
"Forgive me if I do not." She said still not looking at me. I stood with her in silence watching the stars and sometimes a small planet cross us by.
"Shepard?" She said quietly after some silence.
"Hmm?"
"Thank you." I turned to look at her, I saw one tear sliding down her face. What do I do, do I hug her… or err. I patted her on the back resting my hand below her shoulder.
"That's what friends are for. If you ever need someone to watch the time go by, let me know." I said turning to leave.
I was almost at the door when I saw her sit back down.
"I would enjoy that very much Shepard."
I smiled to myself as I left,
"Not too Shabby Shep, not too shabby." I jumped back to see Kasumi standing there grinning at me.
"You act all tough but I know there is a gooey center underneath. There has to be how else could you have gotten tali's attention? There has to be some dorkiness in there somewhere."
Bowing my head in shame,
"I… collect ships."
She put her hand to her mouth faking gasping in horror. Then giggled,
"I knew it. See you later Shep."
I did a little wave then walked over to Thanes room, here we go again I thought as I entered.
